  1. I feel like I should weigh in, since my experience has been the opposite of most others who have posted. Prior to being sleeved in April, I had horrible reflux. If I forgot to take my Nexium, I was miserable, and sometimes would wake up in the middle of the night choking on acid. (My surgeon did recommend bypass, but was fine with my choice of sleeve.)

I was prescribed omeprazole to take for two months (it might have been three) post-op, which I did, but I have rarely needed it since. I still have occasional heartburn, but nothing like what I had before surgery.

I realize that I'm one of the lucky ones! I just wanted you to hear from someone who had a good experience.

Love this!! Hoping I can say the same some day. Congrats!!! :)

Thanks! I totally assumed they were not going to fit when I tried them on; I was just wanting to see how far I still had to go. I nearly cried when I got the zipper all the way up.

  3. This is the part that sucks, but you need to keep taking the Miralax and force yourself to walk - even if it's only down the street and back or laps around your living room. I also saw that you said you split the dosage of the Miralax. Obviously, if that's what your doctor told you to do, then you should keep doing it that way; if not, take the whole dose. If you're afraid of a blowout - don't be, it's super gentle and just helps get things moving.

  4. I'm a little over 6 weeks post op, and was doing really well until a few days ago when I wound up in the hospital with a very painful kidney stone. I had been feeling so good that I stopped paying attention to my Water intake, which lead to dehydration and the stone. (To make me feel even more like an idiot, I already knew I was prone to kidney stones, which is why I was such a freak about water consumption pre-surgery.) The doctor at the hospital also told me that bariatric patients are at a higher risk for kidney stones. If you've never had a kidney stone, consider yourself very lucky. It's a kind of pain that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. (Okay, that's a lie - I would wish it on my very worst enemy.) Now I'm struggling with staying hydrated and have had to go back to a liquid diet, thanks to the nausea that comes with the kidney stone. FUN!

TL;DR: Stay hydrated or you may wind up with a kidney stone.

  5. This is the hardest part, but you just have to get through it. Pushing your new stomach too far to fast can lead to complications and/or can slow your progress.

I know how tempting it can be to cheat - I've been on purées for almost a month now, and I'm so beyond sick of Soup I could cry, but we just have to grin and bear it.

    You can do it!

Where can I find bone broth? Im am afraid to try a shake, Im not sure if I will feel sick. But in order for me to be discharged I had to drink a shake plus Water and a little Jello-o. But I think they were just looking at consistencies before they had let me go

You should be able to find it at most grocery stores in the organic section. I bought mine at Kroger, and I know Whole Foods carries some as well.

I tried some propel in my Water definitely helps. But Im also going to try sipping on a Protein shake. Im supposed to be clear liquids until I see my surgeon for a follow up but your definitely right I gotta get some kind of Protein in.

If your surgeon says clear liquids, then you should definitely stick with clear liquid. Try some Bone Broth, which is clear and has protein. Also maybe check with your surgeon's office to see what kind of protein (if any) they recommend at this point.

  8. I second adding sugar free flavoring to your Water. For whatever reason, it seems to go down easier. Also, since you're just a couple of days post op, you likely still have a lot of swelling in your new stomach. Try switching out one glass of water with a Protein Shake and sip it very slowly. It's important to try to get in at least some Protein right now, even if it's just a little bit.

The next few days will be rough, but every day you'll feel a little better. Hang in there!

Hi! It took awhile before eating was "normal" - there was a period of time where I didn't even cook for my family post op because I didn't wan to look at food, let alone have that "heavy" feeling and uncomfortableness. I can say that carbs are the worst!! They will sit heavy no matter how long since surgery....at least that's my experience. Once you are able to eat soft foods, and so on just really, NO REALLY...TAKE YOUR TIME EATING...it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!! I thought I had slowed down eating and I had but you truly need to eat like a snail...lol It will help with the digestion and less heavy feeling. Good luck!!!!

Thanks! I'm still really struggling with eating slowly. It's so much harder than I thought it would be. Luckily, I have the rest of my life to work on it...

I'm 2 and 1\2 weeks out as well. I had complication during my surgery that forced the doc to decrease the size of my stomach more than normal. I'm just now on 1\2 liquid and 1\2 soft. But everything I eat and drink feels like that rock mentioned above. You don't have any problem s getting your fluids in? I'm getting IV liquids 2x a week so far.🤔 Any tips for that?

For me, it's been all about temperature. I have found that room temperature and warm liquids go down easier. I also don't drink plain Water - I've been using Crystal Light and Mio to flavor it (both are sugar free). Before surgery, I hated that stuff, but for whatever reason it makes all the difference now.
