I had to pay for all of the psych eval because my insurance wouldn't. However, I did it via bariatricpsychevals.com so it only cost me $300, I think (sorry, it's been a while). I hope this helps.

Pre-op surgery November 27th I'm nervous. I want so desperately to lose the weight and keep it off this time. I'm doing this by myself and I wish I had someone to exercise with. My goal is I just want to be able to run again. Even at the age of 50. My kids are all grown up. And I just want to do something for me to start my life over

Yep. I'm waiting for her to return to answer this burning question. Did he have a band, sleeve, plication, bypass, or duodenal switch? Was it a virgin procedure or a revision?
There are too many unanswered questions.

Which surgery did your brother have? I'm assuming it was the gastric plication since you posted this thread in the gastric plication forum.
I am sorry for what happened to your brother. May expedient healing and a swift recovery arrive in his direction as soon as humanly possible.
Any surgery entails risks. For most of us who have chosen to undergo weight loss surgery, the risks associated with remaining obese and miserable weren't worth it.
Less than 1 percent of those who undergo bariatric surgery suffer from major complications. To place it into perspective, 1 out of 100 people who have weight loss surgery experience major complications.
Nonetheless, since people who experience bad outcomes tend to be the most vocal and outspoken, it makes it seem like bariatric surgery is riskier than it really is. After all, few people run to an internet forum to proclaim, "I had an uncomplicated recovery with minimal pain! I lost 100+ pounds and kept it off! I have no regrets and am pleased with the outcome! My life has changed for the better because of weight loss surgery!"
The vast majority (read: those who had good outcomes) move on with their lives, whereas the vocal minority blow the risks tremendously out of proportion. It's called negativity bias.

I was sleeved 5 days ago and I started feeling this way during my 2 week completely liquid pre op diet. Now I'm sore so I don't care, but I know it's coming. It's normal, I think. I just try to take it day by day. Good luck!

I was also sleeved on 1/18/17 and originally got the chalky chewable kind and it made me nauseous and I even threw up from it. For a Multivitamin, I really like the Bariatric Fusion soft chews (it's like a starburst consistency). And for Iron I take the bariatric fusion iron soft chew (he multivitamin doesn't have iron). For calcium citrate, I take Celebrate soft chews. Sorry it's not a 2 in 1 or 3 in 1.

    Hi everyone!
So excited for my weight loss journey and thought it'd share it here. I'm 22 years old and had gastric sleeve surgery on January 11 of this year. Today marks my one month since surgery and it excites because I've lost 28 pounds successfully. I'm up to date with my Water intake, exercising (weights included), and my Protein.
Also, would like to share that I ate sushi and everything went well! Since, I went to the gym this morning and did a high intense work out. I felt like I needed to be fueled an hour after drinking my 35g of protein. Sushi suited very well for me and was able to eat 4 rolls (I was very hungry). I did not eat them all at once. I ate two right away and ate another two 30 minutes later.
I'm very excited to continue this journey and will keep everyone updated!! Thanks for reading,
    Theresa

MissJDVSG reacted to Stella S in How did you/are you paying for plastic surgery?
I self paid for sleeve 18 k. I have a lower body left wit bum using my own tissue. This included TT with muscle repair. I had breast deconstruction and reconstruction with my own tissue. I did not want to replace implants each 6 or 8 years. It was 23 k. Both procedures I went with MD and facilities that were comfortable for me. I did get cheaper quotes but wanted to be confident. This body has been through a lot. ☺

There are FAR More success stories than there are failures. People may not want to brag about hearing that someone lost 100+ pounds and are healthier than they have been in 25 years.
Generally speaking, you will find that MANY of your friends do NOT have the courage to make real and lasting changes in their own lives. When you talk about your surgery, you may be reminding them that they are unable to change their own lives, so they are MUCH more comfortable keeping you from showing your courage and changing their little world that you are a round and controllable part of.
Change scares people, whether they realize it of not, so don't let their fear change you! You have already been through a LOT in your life, and you DESERVE a chance at a healthier life going forward. The liberation of coming off of medications after surgery (went into the hospital on 4 medications, came out on 2 - and the remaining doses were reduced to their lowest levels) is an immediate boost to your psychology, so embrace it. When you tell anyone that you are having this surgery, do it to inform them, not to affirm you.
    God Bless

Yes, I don't post anything on my fb about my weight loss journey and I have a separate instagram because what I choose to do is my business and I feel when you put private things about yourself out on social media you open the door for comments. So if you don't want to go through the extra stuff just don't share.... I only share with others who have or about to have wls.

Hi all! I read a very inspiring post this morning about haters. So I decided to share. I'm going through a nasty divorce because my husband just refuses to treat me right. You name it he's done it or said it. I've been fighting tears for 3 days now with the latest news of his cheating. Then he had the nerve to blame me for his behavior..... Well God made me smile today. I had my first physical with my regular doctor today. He was soooo impressed with my 70lbs loss. It made my day! It's the little things! God really won't let me be sad or spiteful!

MissJDVSG reacted to Renea Glover in MY EX TRIED TO TEAR ME DOWN
Hello everyone, Warning beware of jealous people in your life. So my now ex but also my daughters father has as I feel always tried to sabotage me. I gained close to 100 pounds in the last 6 years since I've been with him had a baby got super comfortable and let myself go. Well since my surgery and before he was never with my lifestyle change he would bring fast food and candy into the house, he didn't work out with me on a regular basis (and mind u he is athletic and a boxer) there was no genuine encouragement nor support. He was and is a serial cheater. He told a girl he cheated on me with about me getting the surgery before i even had it and just recently told another woman i believed to be a friend but he was sleeping with her too that I had the surgery and now I think i'm better than ppl and they laughed about how I'm still big and my body gone be a mess (I seen the messages) the disrespect is at an all time high. Bottom line is I am better than what they obviously thought of me. This change has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, I'm happy about life again, I see the changes in me mentally, spiritually, and physically. I'm looking forward to the future and learning not to settle or accept anything I'm discovering my worth and now I'm glad I can close that chapter in my life and looking forward to my journey and finding someone new that sees the Goddess in me

I'm from the South Shore (MA). I am 10 days away from my surgery date and I have had some very meaningful conversations with my husband about how things will be for us post-surgery. I promised to never say, "Are you really going to eat that?" or "You ate the whole thing?" This is my food issue not his but... he knows I will need his help. Vacations can not revolve around food and drink anymore, buffets are are on possibly permanent hold when we are together, and he can't "feed me" anymore.
The nice thing about the timing of surgery for me is that he is going to diet with me (and he is the disciplined one). My surgery is going to benefit us both but I will not make him change his eating habits for me unless he wants to for himself. I only request and require his support.
He is a great guy and I know he will do his best. He knows we will both have to adjust and he is all in!
Clearly your wife loves you but she needs to adapt as well. (We had a fire inside today watching some great football).

I think for a lot of us, it's a hard concept to grasp. Getting rid of those old clothes instead of tucking them away somewhere until we "need" them again. It's scary, but also very liberating to truly let them go.
