    Constipation

All - I am 17 days out. I know Dr's usually prefer Milk of Magnesia but it's late and I don't have any tonight. I do have some Dulcolax (very tiny pills). Am I too early out to take a pill? Thoughts? Suggestions? Really don't want to wait until tomorrow to deal with this. So uncomfortable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What to tell people?

Go with Hiatal Hernia repair ... recovery, scars, etc are almost identical. It's no one's business but this seems to put them at ease. It also explains why you're eating the way you have to eat for the following few months. I mention this because even if you're splitting meals with your spouse, for a long time, you will literally take a few bites and have to be done. Then you sit and visit with a full plate of food ... it can be a little awkward. I personally just don't have time to explain all my reasons for why I needed to do this. I'm not really trying to be sneaky or secretive but my weight issues are just not something I feel comfortable discussing. If people know, and then I don't talk about it, it becomes and even bigger deal and I just don't want it to be a deal at all! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 year anniversary

You look awesome! Great job! I have a question and wanted to ask you since you are 3 years out. Do you still feel the effectiveness of the restriction? I'm trying to teach myself now how to do what I need to do to not gain this weight back later. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    August 30 Sleevers Post Here!

I was sleeved 8/30 as well. Felt hunger a couple times over the last few days when I didn't eat every few hours. The good news tho is that when I felt it, I ate a few bites and was satisfied and went on with my day. I'm in a stall right now, not really counting but think it's been about 11ish days. Just riding it and not stressing. My body will figure it out and start losing again soon I'm sure, seems that everyone does. Glad you're doing well! Don't stress the hunger, your body's doing what your body needs to do. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Did you tell people?

As silly as it may sound, I have done the following to keep the drama to a minimum. Accepted food on my plate to make people happy and then slid it to the trash or napkins when they weren't looking, pretended being the day after a stomach virus, started a new diet (told them that), fed the dog under the table ... all kinds of things. Eventually they'll get used to me eating like a thin person - for now it's only difficult because I'm in the puréed stage. I only told my family I live with. No one else knows. My mother is coming to town in a couple months and I'll decide then if I'm going to tell her. She will take if fine, it's more the money I spent to get it done with her. She's 5'10" and 145 pounds. So fat is something she's never really had to deal with (she's 75). Do what works for you for what stage your in and what you feel comfortable with. Everyone has their own way, and understands the personalities of the people they're dealing with best. Take it a day at a time, a person at a time, and one day you'll just be their thin relative/friend that eats like all the rest if he thin people! You got this! Dr Borland - Louisiana

Here's a few tips: 1) Don't stay at the Candlewood Suites. Although they will give you a "medical" discount if you ask for it, I wasn't crazy about it. TV was broken in the living room and they wouldn't do anything about it. Although I have to say, the bed was very comfortable. I think I would have preferred the La Quinta. It seemed a little nicer. 2) Don't pack much - you won't need it. My best packs: * Gas-x strips * My own pillow * Neck support pillow * Fuzzy Socks * Spray for dry mouth * Chapstick * Binder - I just used a back support binder. It felt good to support my torso - except to bathe, I never took it off. 3) sleep Mask - will help you sleep a lot during the day. 4) Ear plugs - that way you can rest soundly while whoever is with you can move around without bothering you. Can't think of anything else other than take the pain meds and the nausea meds even if you don't think you need it that bad. It can sneak up on you and it's hard to come back from once it gets away from you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How did your surgery go? Everything turn out ok? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using the BariatricPal App Yes, everything went great! I'm one week out and other than the incisions being there (no pain or anything) I wouldn't even have known I had surgery. Keep thinking I'm going to feel a restriction but I guess since I'm not on solids yet, I don't. Have felt a tiny bit hungry twice but nothing that a Premier Protein didn't fix. How are you? Fill me on the details! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I don't have mine until November 21st! I can't wait! If I had the vacation time I would definitely move it up. So your off of clear liquids in less than a week? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app Hey! Thanks for sending me a message! I hate you have to wait until November but it will be here before you know it and I'll be here to answer any questions about surgery there. Later this evening, I can post sort of a run down of how the day went if you want me to. I'll post the list of how you eat week 1, week 2 and so on too. I'm doing well, just taking it a day at a time and trying learn the limitations of my new tool. I'm definitely in a stall, but trying not to get frustrated ... just my body adjusting. Lost 9 pounds pre-op and 10 pounds from day of surgery on 8/30, so I'm 16 days out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Looking for a Sleeve Buddy!

Was doing ok until I decided I could probably handle some watered down grits. Someone came and started talking to me and I got distracted and was eating like an unsleeved person (lol) .... Looked down and realized I had eaten over 1/2 the bowl. Within minutes I knew exactly what people have been talking about when they say they got the foamies ..... Mouth started filling up with Water, my chest was getting super tight, I had pain between my shoulder blades and before I knew it ... Bye, bye grits. That was crazy! And something I don't ever want to do again! The rest of the day was back to liquids! My poor body needed a break. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. They also have a dry shampoo that has some color in it. If you spray your scalp, it sort of camaflouges any spots that show more scalp than other spots. Makes your hair look a little thicker at the root level and covers gray well too! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Love this thread! I haven't had my moment yet, but really looking forward to it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How to make protein taste better ?

I posted this under another question but worth sharing again. Either with regular if decaf coffee, I mix 8 ounces of coffee and 1 premier Protein vanilla and 1 scoop of Isopure protein and a touch of Stevia to sweeten and then pour it over ice. I sip on this for about 3 hours and get almost all my protein for the day. It's so good! I look forward to it every morning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    August Bypass Buddies?

8/30 - doing good. Will know tomorrow if my stall has started. The last couple days I haven't budged, but don't count it as a stall until I hit 3 days. Moving to more firm foods Tuesday. Tried to rush it a little today and felt the restriction. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Can you share if you had any stalls along the way and how you handled it if you did? Also, if you did, how long did it last? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What am I about to do to myself?

If you plug on perfectly you probably can lose it on your own but the stats I've learned since starting this journey are 1) none of us can be as perfect at it as it would take 2) Even those that do lose all of it, only 5% can keep it off and 3) with WLS, the stats of keeping it off are upwards (and higher of 80% of keeping it off. That's enough for me! I'm happy I did it and I'm working hard now to make my goals. No, this is not the easy way out but it's a tool I didn't have before to be successful! Go for it! Best food / workout tracking app?

I've used MyFitnessPal for years. It has everything I need to track and make good choices. I've never seen the need to upgrade to the premium version. The free version has been fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Excedrin and Advil

I went back for my 1 week Postop and asked if I could take Advil or Aleve for a headache, and my Dr said nothing but the liquid pain Meds he gave me for post surgery. He said at least for the next few weeks and we would re-visit the question then. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Try eating 2 scrambled eggs and you'll know it's working. I was feeling the same as you yesterday, worrying it was not working because I wasn't having issues like everyone else. Scrambled 2 eggs and got about 1/3 the way through and couldn't take another bite. Feel sluggish and full but taught myself a lesson! It's working Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
