Saltine crackers. Ginger ale works for some. That can last for a while, though some women just experience it for the 1st trimester. I had “morning” sickness at any given time of the day up until I was like 7 1/2 months. Water made me nauseous too.

WowSiSSi829 what a tragic and also scary story. I hope better health is in the cards for you. You are correct your's is not a run-of-the-mill cancer and you do have reason to think your band buddy. Without its ornery actions your child would be without Grandma and Mommy. God Bless And Keep you. Please update with further chapters of your story.

SiSSi829 got a reaction from Frustr8 in Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
I hated my lapband ( placed in 4/2011) BUT I really believe it saved my life almost 4 yrs ago. I had my 1st slip 4 months post op due to losing 50lbs. I could feel my food funneling down, making a stop and sometimes even feeling the food getting stuck in my band, feels kinda like swallowing a rock or something. I kept insisting to my dr that there was something not right about but he kept assuring me that I was fine. That it was just that I was eating inappropriately.
I started to get really bad heartburn around 12/2013. For about 6 months I would have to go to the ER at least twice a months due to these heartburn episodes until finally I told the ER tech to give me an X-ray because I’d been throwing up for 4 days straight and I wanted to check on my band. I got discharged. I received a call at 3:30am from the ER asking me to come back ASAP cause there was a mass the size of a grapefruit in the middle of my chest. So after being admitted to the hospital and spending almost a week there I really didn’t catch on the oncologists and the students coming into my room. Not once did I think “ why are they here?” I checked myself out of the hospital because my mother-in-law was in her final moments ( stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer) and our youngest at the time was running a fever. I went down to get all my medical records and was fine for about two weeks which in the time frame my mother-in-law passed. I had another one of my severe heartburn episodes and decided to drive a bit further this time to another hospital where I was caught in mid air by a nurse due to my fainting from the pain. I woke up in a hallway of the ER where a dr asked me what I was feeling, I handed her my records, asked her for something for the pain, passed out and woke up admitted to the hospital. The next day I was once again surrounded by an oncology team that told me that they needed a biopsy of the mass because they considered that just by looking at it via X-ray it could potentially be a stage 4 mass. (Yay me!) 🤦🏽‍♀️ thank GOD I had my biopsy done the next day, had results three days later. Not stage 4 but stage 2 of a thymoma ( that are usually benign, but not mine) aka thymic carcinoma and due to its size I’d have to start chemo. And to make my longer story short-ish, I thank my annoying little device that I hated so much because if I wouldn’t have had that 1st slip and that 1st experience I would have never asked for that X-ray to check for another slip of my band.

I really can't compare yet since I'm almost a month post op from my sleeve.
BUT I can talk about the lapband. I had it done in early 2012. I lost 50lbs in about 2-2 1/2 months which caused it to slip and I had to get it repositioned. I totally agree with that annoying "stuck" feeling. We'd go to eat and I had my hubby n kids watching me the whole time to make sure I didn't put my "in stuck" face .
It was really hard to be the center of attention at the dinner table. When I did get stuck the only way to feel better was to wait it out ( pretty painful moments) or go and make myself puke. I'd txt my dr and I would tell him that something was wrong because the 1st thing they tell u is that with a band it's NOT RECOMMENDED TO VOMIT but it's the only thing to alleviate all that's going on ( shortness of breath, chest pain/compression, the "yo-yo-ing of the food, the sharp feeling while the food goes down) all at the same time.
Overall I lost about 80lbs with the band. I kinda got used to the discomfort and figured out a way to word around it I guess. What's weird is that I thank god that I did have this band, because of this band and the going through the discomforts I noticed that my "stuck" feeling wasn't at the pit of my stomach (or more anatomically correct, right under my breast bone) but it was now dead smack in my mid chest area. So I started telling my dr, he kept telling to eat smaller bites and to eat slower this started 12/31/2013 I was literally at the ER every month; twice a month with this "heartburn" that was killing me making me nauseous and making my "stuck" feelings 10x's worse
Looong story short, I went to the ER and I told the nurse that I had this band and I wanted to have an X-ray done since I'd been throwing up for 4days straight couldn't even keep Water down. So they did this X-ray, discharged me 12 hrs later with the all famous OMEPRAZOLE RX like they've done every other time that I went. I get a call at 3am (after being discharged ) and the ask me how long would it take my to be back at the ER and I'm just like why?! What's the problem.... so they tell me that I have to came back because the dr was just going over my X-ray and found a mass the size of a grapefruit in the middle of my chest and they neede to admit me for more tests and a biopsy.
Conclusion, the band worked for me, I guess. I had all the messed up "stuck"feelings u have BUT in a indirect way it also save my life.
I chose to get the conversion because I didn't like the overall feeling that the band brought and i gained 70lbs due to all the chemotherapies and meds and whatnots my dr had to open my band so u could go through my cancer treatments without having all the other junk too (also I had a slip too)

I will be 6 months post op and have had no heartburn or gall bladder issues post op. I did have heartburn all the time before. My doctor had me on Prilosec OTC for 4 weeks (I week pre-op and 3 weeks post-op). He said that is why my recovery was so easy.
Very surprised that I haven't had any heartburn; hadn't actually crossed my mind how long its been until I saw your post! Hope this helps...!

Thank you so much for your responses, they've really encouraged me... I'm just waiting on my RNY surgery date. I can't believe I've put up with 10 years of stuck food... wishing I could eat fresh fruit, a carrot stick, an apple! So sick of 'stuck face' and excusing myself from the table.
I had my band emptied (after discovering a massively dilated oesophagus) and I've managed to lose a little weight and loved enjoying apples, strawberries (OMG they taste so good) and chicken again... can't wait for my surgery date to get going with this weight loss!

Happy for your success and that you care enough to keep trying. Still recovering and a bit emotional still myself. Not meaning to sound rude to anyone so I apologize. Still learning and you know how hard core it is to get to surgery and post op. So really wound up lol. Again, wishing you nothing but success and happiness on your journey. Thanks for your honesty. Hi sleeve twin! I also had my surgery Wednesday July 6. And I desperately want French fries. My husband is super supportive though and has been cooking and eating in the kitchen because he feels bad for my cravings. Fortunately I'm on full liquids now, and can have Fairlife milk and Protein drinks. Flavorful Soup broths like ramen without the noodles should count as clear liquid and I found they helped me through my Clear Liquids beforehand. Try to have something super flavorful, and I'd talk to your husband about being supportive. Ask him to eat at the restaurant if he wants fast food, or see if he'll do a juice cleanse or something while you're on liquids. I wish you the best!

There is no comparison. I was banded in 1996 and struggled every day for 20 years. I threw up daily and struggled mostly with healthy foods like fruit, veggies, and meat. I had RNY on 4/6/16. The doctor found that the band had eroded my stomach and adhered to my spleen and liver. 3 months later, I am eating veggies, fish, and fruit. No throwing up and no pain. I've lost over 40 lbs and have 60 more to go.
I weigh all of my food but I can tell I'm full because it feels the same way as when you eat a huge plate. So...stuffed.
If I'm eating in a restaurant, I don't weigh my food but I know what 4 Oz looks like and I know when I've had enough. I only eat at places I know I can order something that works for me. I suffered for 20 years and I regret every day of that band. The past 3 months have been awesome.

Why in the world would you refuse IV fluids if you are so dehydrated?
You NEED 64 oz of fluid just to stay even. If you are severely dehydrated it is going to be almost impossible to drink enough to catch up (hence the IV fluid).
Dehydration is life threatening. You are already experiencing health repercussions.
If you are making this decision based on the numbers on the scale then please, please get rid of your scale.

I have only been able to drink bottled Water at room temperature otherwise I swear my stomach actually cringes. It has to be the cold and I have learned to drink my water plain or with a lemon in it.
I too eat bacon, the real thing but I did not start eating bacon until I was about 8 months post op. Because of how little I eat, I do eat full fat cheeses, bacon, yogurt, cottage cheese. But, I really do stick mostly to quality Proteins, veggies and amazing fruit so that really helps control my diet.
I also believe in everything in moderation. If I want a brownie or some ice cream I have a small portion every once in a while. I find if I don't let myself have these foods at all, it is likely I will go off plan and be right back where I started.
Again, I did not even think of touching anything like that until I was post op about 8 months and down over 100lbs.

In Friday I'll be a month post op. I know what u're feeling the first week was bittersweet. While I was in the hospital (2days) I was fine but when I went home something just clicked. My hubby is very supportive. He set up a table next to a recliner where he put all my mess and in the morning he'd put my Jello and broth but still just watching tv i noticed how 80% of the commercials are about food and that just pissed me off and caused me to make horrible choices not even 2wks post op. BUT not all days will be bad. They do eventually get better. Trust me. Hang in there. If u have any religious tendencies or practices or whatnot. Pray, sage, chant, crystal-curei it, (what ever that case may be) on it.

I was banded for nearly 11 years before converting to bypass in Sept 2014. My experience with the band was very much like yours. I can tell you that for me, the bypass is night and day compared to the band. Here are my answers to your questions?
Can you eat in a restaurant? Absolutely! I remember one of the first times eating out with my hubby post bypass, I got up in the middle of the meal to use the restroom and had to tell him it wasn't so I could puke! I do have a lot of leftovers, though! What does it feel like when you reach restriction? I just get full and satisfied. If I push it, I feel sick. Can you eat almost anything just very small portions? Yes! And nearly two years out the portions aren't miniscule. Just smaller than before. How common is it to fail at weight loss after a bypass? I know people who have and that does frighten me a bit. I am struggling a little myself because I vowed to not let myself gain more than 3 lbs without hitting it hard again and I am up 7 after vacation. I feel like that is what "normal" people experience, though, and I have a tool to help me lose it again. I think it is vital to remain physically active. I know I will need to work at it forever but will bypass make my struggle easier? For me, absolutely, so far.
