  2. So I was initially really excited about my journey with the sleeve and just wanted to get it done! I had my initial consultation July 11th and have had my cardiac psych and sleep study clearances since. The office called today and said I was approved and will call by the end of the week to schedule surgery in the next 2 weeks. It all happened so fast and I am extremely nervous and anxious now. I know this is what I want and need but can't help but feel overwhelmed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  5. How did your consult go?? Did they think you might be able to have it by end of summer? Im still waiting to hear. I have my cardiac and psych clearance done and will get results from sleep study tomorrow after that I just need to wait for my insurance to approve the surgery.
  6. Hi everyone!! So far off to a good start…had my consultation Monday and surgeon agrees sleeve is a good fit for me! Already have my cardiac and psych clearance and will be doing my sleep study friday (benefit of working at a hospital and knowing all the specialists!) After that I will be done with all the requirements! Im hoping for a august date after my summer semester and starting the fall semester…Do any of you think theres a chance for having it all scheduled so quickly?
  7. Hi everyone, I have decided to have the sleeve done after battling with my weight for years. I just want to be healthy. When I first told my family they were completely unsupportive even though they know how much I have tried and failed to lose weight on my own. I thought I would just do it and not tell anyone but the guilt of having surgery without my mom knowing if something were to happen was weighing heavily on my conscious. Fast forward to now I have now lied and told my mom that they are recommending the surgery because they found out my hormone levels are all out of whack because of a small BENIGN growth inhibiting secretion of these hormones that aid in metabolism and weight loss that is making it near impossible to lose weight on my own but besides that pose no other risk to my health. Now she is fine with me getting the surgery and is finally supporting me. But now I feel even guiltier. ugh what did I get myself into. Any thoughts or advice? Any Ohio sleevers?

hello! im in the cleveland area.. going for my first consultation next week!
  9. Hi! My first consultation is july 11th also! I'm also a graduate student and hoping to be approved to have surgery between the end of my summer classes and beginning of fall semester in mid august! Long shot but heres to hoping -John That's so funny, nice to know I'm not alone. I'm realizing it just depends on what our insurance requires. I'm so anxious about it- just wondering if I can do everything this summer while I'm free or if I have to do it on my winter break. Let's stay in touch! Lots of luck to you. Ps- what are you studying? I'm in for social work. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes definitely every insurance is different. I don't think I will have to go thru a medically supervised weight loss program from what I have heard from a few coworkers that have had it done so hoping it might speed up the process. Im a nurse and in grad school to become a nurse practitioner… and yes good luck to you and lets keep in touch! I need a sleeve buddy!

  11. Hi everyone!! I finally made an account after reading posts on here for the last several weeks … WLS has always been in the back of my head for the past few years ever since my PCP suggested I go to a consultation. I always thought I could do it on my own but have failed time and time again. I am 26 and have now come to the conclusion that if I haven't done something that has worked by now after being overweight my entire life, what is going to change this time? I am fortunate to not have any other comorbidities related to my weight but want to prevent myself from ever getting them in the future. I have made up my mind to have the sleeve done but the only thing is that I have zero support from my family. I think highly or at least used to think highly of their opinions being a close family but ever since I mentioned that I was going to a consultation all I have gotten from my mom and siblings is backlash and condescending, demeaning remarks insinuating that I am stupid, no common sense, etc etc…. Mind you none of them have any healthcare/medical knowledge and are too ignorant to educate themselves. Also I am a RN soon to be nurse practitioner that has done countless hours and research on all aspects of the procedure. So my question is is it possible to keep this a secret from people that you see often? I love my family but have decided I do not want them involved or know that I have decided to get the procedure. After their initial reactions and a few weeks later when it was readdressed nothing has changed. I am used to doing everything on my own anyways so this will be no different. I have friends and coworkers that have been supportive and I know I will have them for support before and after the surgery. I just hate lying to my family but after their reactions I feel like they no longer deserve to be a part of this in any way. I just worry and feel very very guilty that I am lying to them and if something were to happen to me they would be completely blindsided…. Any comments, thoughts, and suggestions I would greatly appreciate!!! Thank you everyone this site has been a blessing. -John

    Keeping surgery a secret?

    Keeping surgery a secret?

Hi Valentina, Thanks for the reply. When I start working as a NP I will definitely be open about it if its pertinent to the individual and if its indicated I would recommend and will tell them about my experience and support my patients with whatever they decide. I am not ashamed or embarrassed of it and think it is a great tool for the right person. I just don't want to deal with any more stress in regards to my family on the topic. My close friends are all for it.
