My dirty little secret........struggle coming to terms with job stress.
It leads over into every aspect of my life.
I have caught myself stress eating at work......junk food Snacks.
I have caught myself drinking too much on days off.
I finally....acknowledged how both are empty ways of dealing with the stress.
Instead......I'll sneak into the gym at work and burst off a quick few sets and feel better for it. Days off I'll be active doing something outdoors.....lately paddling around the river or walking outdoors. Stress is mitigated in healthy ways.

1 week post OP my husband, son and I went shopping at our local Sam's club. Before surgery we would all get a hot dog meal which include a 1/4 lb hotdog w/bun and a 32oz drink. Well, I had packed myself the good ol Protein shake and like a hungry dog watched them eat their meals....then out of the blue i say very seriously and quite loudly to my husband "can i lick your hotdog??"
Omg. The look on his face and the faces of the surrounding patrons was enough to make us bust up laughing. I did not get to taste the Nathan's 1/4 hotdog that day, but just a week ago I was able to have a couple bites. Which didn't sit well anyway.

Thanks everyone I guess he is thinking we won't be sharing that part of our life together anymore. He asked if I was still going to cook for him too! I told him better healthier foods. I feel bad because I have made up so many excuses in my life not to go places Even faked being sick. How horrible. We have always had fun together. He doesn't know the extent of my unhappiness. I now fun isn't defined by how much you eat and drink but sharing food and wine together is fun.
Kindafamiliar you are hilarious..you make me laugh out loud!

well. I am a hormonal roller coaster in the past early months, so not sure how much *fun* that was for the man, but he's used to me anyway. maybe it was fun sometimes.
our relationship has not really changed but some things are easier, and more fun being together as I get increasingly healthier. (the sex is a lot more fun as the weight comes off)
he may just have a designated driver - but if you two endeavor to work together you can adapt and change so that your marriage is better than it was before. I find 9/10ths of a happy marriage is being flexible, extending grace and forgiving each other.

Your idea of "fun" may have been what got you to 220 pounds, no?
There's other ways to have fun together. Some even involve exercise. (Sex. I'm talking about sex).

You'll be losing your weight, not your sense of humor, my friend.
If your hubby is serious about his concerns, talk your WLS through with him---until he understands 199% and then some.
Spousal support is SO important. It sounds like you two are a "fun" couple. Wonderful!
Prayers going up for a future overflowing with----fun.

"Fun" is not defined by how much you eat and drink.
But if that's how you and your husband have defined "fun" (even if only partly defined it that way), you're going to have the opportunity for some interesting discussions in the coming year.

So, the words you are using to describe yourself right now include "unhappy with myself," "avoid old friends," "struggle," "excuses," "sad," and "lost friendships" -- and somehow your husband thinks you will be *less* fun? I can't imagine that! You'll have so much more energy and enthusiasm for life (after you get past the post-op recovery phase of course). Fun doesn't mean eating and drinking, it means talking and laughing with your loved ones, enjoying their company, and venturing out to new adventures and old friends. It means being truly happy in your own skin and sharing that happiness and confidence with those around you. I think you know that -- hopefully your husband gets on board soon!

Think of it this way -
If, right now, you're as much fun as, say, a night at the circus, then after the weight loss, you'll be like a night at the circus followed by three days at Disneyland, a free pass to EVERYTHING at the fair and a day just hanging out with little horses (the second happiest thing in the world!!)...
    Yeah...
    You'll still be fun...

My doctor's office pointed out that it's not "carbs" that matter so much as the kind of carbs. In other words, there's a big difference between the carbs in soybeans or a piece of fruit than those in potato chips or a candy bar. I was told to keep carbs under 120, but…see above. They said the quality of the carbs is what matters most. They also said I wouldn't be ABLE to eat enough carbs to cause any worries at this point, what with my tiny stomach capacity so early on.
Of course, I do follow the mantra to always eat Protein first. I'm not a vegetarian, but have been a pescatarian (eat some fish, plus eggs and dairy) for 40 years. I have always had trouble getting enough Protein (I log it every day on Sparkpeople), so I was worried about this. I'm just 10 days post-op, and just started pureed foods. I'm eating yogurt, vegetarian refried Beans with cheese, blended cottage cheese, ricotta, cream of wheat, applesauce or other fruit blended with unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, and tofu. (You can do amazing things with tofu!) I haven't yet tried any fish or eggs. 'm not having any troubles to speak of and am hitting my protein goal every day.
I'm also using protein powders and drinks. For example, every day I put 1/2 of a New whey Protein Shot (fruit punch flavor) in a 20 ounce bottle of Water. That gives me 21 grams of protein, plus helps me hit my liquid goal. The oddest thing so far for me is that plain ole H2O has always been my favorite drink -- I've never been a big soda drinker, and if I ever drank juice, I would cut it to 1/5 juice, 4/5 Water. But since the sleeve, plain water tastes weird to me.
So I hope you won't worry! I am finding it very manageable.
And you know what else? It may be crazy or sacrilegious or something, but I WANT to lose somewhat slowly! I figure a slower loss will help with the skin sagging (I'm in my late 50s, and concerned about this). I also feel that an extra few months of getting to goal is not a big worry; after all, I plan to lose this weight for life. Unlike all the other times I've lost weight, this time I know it is going to come off and stay off! So if it takes a bit longer (and gives my skin time to catch up), I'm not going to stress out about it!
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!

Everyone has their own triggers. I don't think eat fast food is a habit that people should start back up. It is too easy to slide. You can easily eat french fries as a slider food. Mashed potatoes are on the soft foods list, mashed poatoes and french fries are cousins... It is a slippery slope for most people struggling with food issues.
Especially eating fast food during the soft foods phase. Which is what the original poster asked about. A week or 2 after surgery eating fast food seems risky and flat out bad advice. If someone is further out, it could be different. Still there are higher quality food options than Wendy's. If a person waited 6 weeks plus (depending on the program) then a person could get a salad instead of chili.
There are better options, we need to learn them early and stick to them for success.
I love Protein shakes, I drank them long before surgery and will probably drink the rest of my life. I would rather drink a Protein shake than think about how long I have to spend on the elliptical to work off a fast food treat, and then actually get on the elliptical.
And there is nothing to stop you from eating a Protein Bar or something while your kids eat whatever junk food. Just because other people are making bad choices doesn't mean you have to join in.

I forgot to give my soft food suggestion!
Swai fillets! Even if you aren't crazy about fish it is okay because they have a very mild fish taste, probably the mildest possible. They are very easy to digest and extremely soft and flakey. They are also very affordable compared to most seafood. I was eating crab but this is easier to digest and doesn't sit as heavy in my sleeve. I eat 10 oz of swai most days in 2 different portions. I can eat some other things, but I like swai because of the easy digestion, low price and how easy it is to cook. And it accepts flavors and seasoning very sell, so you can season it how you please. I started with 2oz at a time and I am at 5oz sometimes almost 6 oz now. It is easier to digest than crab, tuna or shrimp because it is so soft. It is easier than salmon also.
Also if you are starting soft foods. Get a scale if you don't have one and weigh everything you eat. Even if you are eating something with the weight on the package and you think you cut it in 1/2 etc. Weigh and track everything. It is easy to over or under estimate and sometimes you don't finish everything. You really have to track everything to make sure you are on track with your Protein. It is too easy to realize at 6 or 7 pm that you are at less than 1/2 your Protein requirements.
I also suggest prepping your food for the next day at night, or doing it all in the morning. Pre-planning makes sure you hit your requirements.

Yeah I could not have ground beef until week 7. I still have not tried it. It has to be in Soups, casseroles (yuk!), meatloaf (triple yuk), or sloppy joes I think I am just going to wait it out the 6 months until I can have steak. When it cools off I might make homemade chili, but that is a lot of work for one person, and I don't want to be stuck eat chili for days.
Wendy's is a fast food restaurant you can't trust their nutritional value.
Also if you are out an in an emergency, there are still better options than going to a fast food resturant. Almost all gas stations have muscle milk. There are gyms everywhere, and most gyms sell Protein shakes right in the front, you can walk in and buy a Protein shake without being a member. Walmart has Protein Shakes. You can carry a Protein Shake in your purse, When you are off soft foods you can keep a Protein Bar or nuts. You should really never let yourself get into a situation where Wendy's is your best option, and there aren't even that many Wendy's around.

Not all carbs are the devil. Chili is made up of Beans. Beans = carbs. Beans are good for you. If you're on the go and your options are limited Wendy's chili is a pretty good choice. That's actually something they drilled into our heads at my nutrition classes. It's the only fast food option they ever mentioned and they mentioned it often.

Wendy's Chili also has 16 grams of carbs. If you subtract the Fiber, it is 12 grams of carbs, 6 of which are sugar. It is basically 1 for 1 carbs to Protein.
    There are better choices.
