AchieveGoals reacted to Orchids&Dragons in Water intake?
The first week or two are tough to drink much because of the swelling in your stomach. Some lucky people don't swell much and can drink pretty much normally within a couple of days. For others, they need to continue the slow, measured sips because the Water needs to trickle down between the swollen areas. No one can predict how you, personally, will do. I was able to drink normally in less than a week. Water will not stretch your pouch, so after the doc says it's ok, drink normally unless you experience pain. By the time I was 2 weeks post-op, I was drinking 80-100 oz./day. Now I'm 130-170 oz. per day, not because I have to, but because I like to drink a lot. Hope this helps to ease your worries.

AchieveGoals got a reaction from Healthy_life in How much weight will we expect to lose? Gastric Sleeve
Hi everyone! So I just visited my psychologist today, and she is the obligatory psych visit that some insurances require in order to get approved for surgery. She was telling me to realistically expect to lose only 60-65% of EXCESS weight after the gastric sleeve. THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT MY SURGEON AND ASSISTING DOCTOR HAVE TOLD ME! I am currently a female, 280lbs right now, 5'7. And if someone would ask what my goal weight would be, I would say around 140-150lbs. Also I use to be a lap band patient, and my lowest that I had gotten down was at 218, and started at 297. The psych today was telling me to realistically expect me to be a shy under 200 pounds with the sleeve. I'm sorry but please tell me that this beyotch is WRONG. That really discouraged me. How much is the most weight that some of you have lost? Have you guys hit your goal weight, or are close to it? Any answers would help.

AchieveGoals got a reaction from GreenTealael in How do you deal with those around you eating all the things you can't?
This all starting to confuse me now, can't sleevers have anything they want but just in moderation? What is the worst thing that can happen if you had just one tiny slice of pizza and a coke 30 minutes later? Wouldn't that be possible? I didn't have surgery, still in the research phase, so please explain anyone!

I loved this post! It was great information, definitely going to save it. I love how you were so true and candid about the experience. But this made me wonder as well, did you suffer any major complications from the surgery? For example do you have GERD issues now that you didn't prior? Hair loss? Has it stopped or still going strong. Would love to hear from you!

AchieveGoals got a reaction from Frustr8 in Some questions regarding GERD...
Hello everyone! In terms of people acquiring GERD after surgery, I would appreciate all honesty in your answers, it would help me immensely....
    First of all
    1) Did you suffer from GERD before surgery?
    2) If you do now, how often a week? And how would you rate it from 1-10 (10 being the worst)
    3) What do you do to treat it, and does it help alleviate the symptoms completely?
    4) How far out are you from post-op?

    Thank you so much everyone!

@@OutsideMatchInside There are people who take prescription medicines for the rest of their lives in order to combat heartburn/GERD - so this of course can be considered a complication. I thank you for your insight!

Hi everyone! I have a couple of questions for people regarding Water intake after VSG.
    1) How many months post-op are you, & how much Water can you drink on an empty stomach?
    2) Were you able to drink enough daily recommended water the first month after surgery? How hard was it on a scale from 1-10?
    3) Have you guys ever drank water while eating? Were you able to eat more or less?
    4) I've heard people say, even the taste of water changes after surgery, have you noticed this yourself?
    5) Overall on a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to get in the daily amount of water in NOW?
Ahhh, sorry for all these questions, but I genuinely love drinking water :] I would prefer a ice cold glass of water compared to a soda any day, so I really was curious of how water drinking behavior changes after surgery. Any questions that you guys would answer will help me a lot I thank you for your time!!!

AchieveGoals got a reaction from ChrisInc2 in Likeliness of experiencing an ulcer or leak after VSG
I've been reading many forum responses by VSG patients and medical journals written by surgeons regarding patients who have gotten stomach ulcers and stomach leaks after VSG.
My surgery is less than a month away, and this is really giving me a discouraging thought. It seems that most of the articles, and or responses that people write on forums make it seem like experiencing an ulcer or a leak after getting sleeve surgery is something to almost EXPECT. And this made me put into consideration that this surgery has no extreme long term data (20-30+ years). How can we really know for sure what the possibility of developing an ulcer or leak after having VSG really is? I don't mean to scare people or create negativity, but for considering the reality, and the permanence of this surgery, I really wanted to ask people's opinions on this. If anyone can give me any answers my question is, is it possible to undergo VSG and live a lifetime with 0 complications of accumulating an ulcer or a leak? I'd really appreciate to hear any responses regarding this, or to hear your experiences. Thank you!
