it's definitely motivating! I sometimes see my photo and can't believe it's me. I love seeing others' successes!

    Progress Pictures

I don't have any but enjoy celebrating with others. Heck, my profile pic is from before Wls. It's primarily laziness on my part and the fact that I've made a conscious choice not to engage in social media. This is the only social media account I still have!

    Do you count carbs?

I do as well. I'm 8 months out and follow my plan which allows for 30 carbs 6 days a week and 50 one day a week.

    One Last Real Meal?

Why do you want to do this? Do you trust your surgical team? Have they explained whether or not it is ok? Your post op success happens in your mind. Why not use this as an opportunity to practice being compliant so that you are developing the necessary skills for successful weight loss?

Over a month stall - need advice

I hit a 5 week plateau at the six month mark as well and upped my calories, protein, and water, I've started losing again but it's slower than during the first 6 months. I eat on average 1100 calories a day. Keep at it, you can do this!

    Should I do this?

I am 7 months post. I had a very easy recovery; after surgery I had pain in my arms and hands because of the anesthesia, but my abdomen was minimally painful. Once I began my eating plan I had no complications. I weigh my food. I follow my surgeon's plan. In order to go through with wls I had to be able to commit to everything the plan required which meant replacing bad habits with good ones. My bloodwork shows no signs of deficiencies and I do take a multivitamin and iron. My husband and kids are all athletic. I have three teens who play sports- swimming for all three and among them they play basketball, soccer, track, cross country, and tennis. I have had excellent support from them all as well as my elementary aged kiddo. My advice is to evaluate your psychological toughness first and foremost. Your body will respond to the surgery but making it a success has to come from your willingness to change for life.

    7 months slowdown/stall ?

Also hit a six month plateau, lasted about five weeks. I had to increase protein and water to break through. My surgeon said it's the first possible set point for me since surgery, and that my next lower set point should be 8-12 lbs lower.

    NSv

One of my sons is a phenomenal athlete (track, cross country, swimming, and soccer). Since surgery he's worked with me to find exercise I like and when I travel he sends me reminders to hit the hotel gym. Even though he can run circles around me, for months he's gone with me at 430 AM, three days a week, when I go running/jogging. One of the indicators he was most concerned about was my high resting heart rate (and my BP). For the last few days my resting HR has been really great- a huge change since last July when I had WLS. After this morning's run, he gave me one of his track gold track medals and told me that my heart is getting slower and his is getting bigger because he is so proud of his "little mom."

    Plateau?

I've been in a plateau recently; it lasted almost six weeks. Very little weight lost (less than 2 lbs) during a plateau. Your body adjusts to a new set point and you stop losing. They last longer than stalls and take considerably more effort to overcome. Hang in there. Once it broke I was able to start losing again although at a slower pace.
  12. I'm currently at gw but actively trying to lose 8 more lbs to reach my stretch goal. I hit gw 6 weeks ago. I am eating between 800-1100 calories a day, 60 G Protein, no more than 40 carbs. I exercise 3x week at a moderate level of exertion, usually running or biking, and walk 2 days a week at a leisurely pace for 25-40 minutes (depends on the weather and how energetic my dogs are). I have only lost 2 lbs in six weeks. I am looking for advice on getting over this plateau as I am worried that my body has found what it wants to be its new set point!

Not Tracking your food is a big mistake!

I track what I eat but a good kitchen scale has been a lifesaver! It also serves to remind me that there's no way I can eat 8 oz at a time. Most meals are 4 oz, which reassures me that my sleeve works.

    Plateau, not a stall

I kept my carbs to a strict 35-40, tracked every bite, 72 oz of Water per day (I have to pee all the time!!) and 75 g Protein. Didn't count calories but it averaged to 1100. I'm down 2 lbs! I decided to train for a 5K and my merciless 17 year old son, who plays soccer and runs cross country, has been "training" me (not sure how I raised this seemingly nice kid to be such an exercise sadist!). He has me sprinting/jogging at timed intervals for 2.5 miles, three times a week the other two times/week I've been working on my core. My son and a trainer at the gym did a fitness evaluation on me and legs, chest, and back are strong, arms and abs are definitely not. I don't honestly know which part of the equation changed things but it feels great to be back on track. I'm so close to my stretch goal. Thank you all for your advice!

    Carbs??

I could have written Mylighthouse's post. My NUT says 50 but my body says 40. I hit a very long plateau (five weeks) and weighed today, down 2 lbs. I was VERY strict about carbs (35-40; too few isn't good either) and upped my protein. That seemed to work. Finally.
  16. Milk. I love spicy foods but have to be cautious about eating them since I can't drink right after eating. That's changed the level of spiciness I consume.

    Caffeine effects post op?

I have stopped drinking milk since surgery. It tastes awful to me. I can eat dairy products (cheese) but I don't think I can ever drink milk again. It's just as well, my NUT suggests cream for coffee (no skim milk, 2% etc) because it has no carbs. I measure it (1 tbs in 8 oz of coffee) and it tastes heavenly in my java.
  18. I also had to discontinue my meds two days before surgery. I still take meds for it, but it's a much lower dose.

    Caffeine effects post op?

Hmm, never tried meth, so... not sure! I abstained from coffee for a couple of months and it did taste odd at first. It tastes normal now. I only drink one cup/day; my surgeon says if I drink more, to replace it in equal parts with water. I have HPB so I'm cautious about caffeine anyway. I do not notice that it makes me jittery, etc.

    Phentrimine vs contrave??

I took Contrave before surgery but it didn't work for me.

    why no soda??

I am ok with carbonation but choose not to drink anything carbonated...it isn't good for bone density and there is really no benefit to it.

    Plateau, not a stall

What's your caloric intake? 800 is the low end for me, but I seldom make it to 1200. My body seems really happy here. I do think strength training will help.

Gastric sleeve with BMI of 35 - planning ahead

I was sleeved July 2016. I did have hair loss at 4 months post op. However, it's growing back nice and healthy! My hair stylist said I lost about 15% in volume, which is a lot for a Bariatricc patient. I take Biotin for regrowth and as a bonus, my eyelashes have never been so long in my life!

Gastric sleeve with BMI of 35 - planning ahead

I was sleeved with BMI of 34. I was able to stay "acceptably overweight" until my last pregnancy; turning 40 really changed my metabolism and each year, I gained more, became pre diabetic and my BP was no longer controllable with meds. My mother is obese and in a wheelchair, and I felt like that was one possible outcome for me if I didn't do something. I'm at a healthy BMI now; I still need BP Meds (can't change genetics!) but I'm otherwise very healthy. I can exercise and have lots of energy-- like you, I wanted to be here for my children and future grandchildren. I'm happy with my choice and wish I'd done it sooner.

Help! My parents and friends are skeptical!

You're an adult and of course you get to make this decision- no one else has to live with it. I thought about wls for almost five years before I did it and I regret that I didn't do it years ago. Best of luck to you!
