yes - Hair loss happens to almost all of us, and it can happen after any surgery, not just WLS (but I'm guessing it's more commonly seen in WLS patients because we're taking in so few calories those first few months). And it will stop and grow back.
Some people say they've had luck with product X, Y, or Z - but many will say they didn't do a thing.

As others have said, it's common to experience Hair loss after ANY surgery.
Mine started at about 3 or 4 months and seemed to go on forever. I wasn't worried until I could really see the thinning in my scalp. At the time, I had close to shoulder-length hair and I found that the length seemed to make it look worse because the weight of the hair was pulling it down a bit and "showing off" the scalp. So, I cut it into a short bob.
I had always taken a Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamin, but went into a bit of overdrive at the 1st sign of hair loss. I started doing scalp treatments, oil massages, even tried rice Water rinses. I can't say that any of those things made a HUGE difference, but after another 3 or 4 months I noticed baby hairs and regrowth.
I saw on another posting about hair loss that some people's hair never grows back the same. Today, my hair is about the same as it was pre-surgery. I have always had fine, thin hair. Having children dealt the biggest blow to my mane and it never recovered. I'm honestly tired of fighting it and recently got a hair topper. Best thing I ever did. I no longer have to worry about strategically styling my hair to lessen the appearance of the thinning. I highly recommend it!

I want to weigh in here. Pun intended. I am new to the bypass but had a sleeve done in 2013 so I know a lot more than a typical newbie. There is a thing I lovingly refer to as “the dreaded 3 week stall”. It happens to almost everyone. It starts at 3 weeks and can last one or a few weeks. It might feel like a big deal but it just happens. It’s because of the shock to your system, eating so few calories, starvation mode, blah blah blah. I’m sure you have all heard that stuff before. IT WILL PASS! Just keep doing what you’re doing and one day you will wake up and like 6lbs will be gone. No worries. It’s all good. Keep up the good work!!

My surgery was February 3rd and I've been stalled the last 2 weeks. I was a revision so I was expecting a slow loss but I was not expecting to be stalled for 2 weeks when I'm only eating about 800-850 calories a day. My carbs are low, fat is low and Protein is where it should be. It's frustrating but I do measure and I have lost inches those 2 weeks. I think we just gotta hang in there and the scale will start moving again.

After dieting for years and going through the gastric sleeve 9 years ago, I can relate to your questions. This is what I was told over and over.
It is normal to go through a stall, especially not long after surgery. Your body is going through some massive changes and is still dealing with anesthesia from the surgery.
Just breath, give yourself grace and keep working the process. Your body will eventually come around.
You've got this. I will be praying for you!

that will totally depend on your insurance company's requirements and your surgeon's requirements. Some require it, some don't. A lot of insurance companies (not all -- but many) require a six-month supervised diet. These usually have to be done with a dietitian or a physician. In addition, some surgeons require you to do a quick liver-shrinking diet before your surgery - usually for a week or two. But again, not all insurance companies and surgeons require special diets.

It depends; from what I've seen, most surgeons do have some sort of diet plan, though the length and what you can have are different depending on who you use.
I know a lot of insurances require some kind of weight loss before you can have surgery, but I paid for mine out of pocket.
When I went on my plan, my dietitian gave me a written out thing of what I could eat and when- 1 Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch, and then a small (4oz) serving of lean meat with 1 cup of veggies. I know some people have to do full liquid, and the time can range from 1 day to 14 days, or maybe even longer.
If you feel like starting early, good for you; just try to eat the things you'd be eating after surgery. It will be a lifestyle change.
I practiced eating slow and not drinking Water with meals- that was the hardest thing to give up, honestly.
    Good luck! ❤️

Your doctor and insurance company will determine whether you need or what kind of diet plan you go on.
Most people do go on a diet in order to make their liver smaller. It helps to keep it out of the way during the surgery.
Your insurance company may want you to go on a diet in order to learn new eating habits for your new digestive system.
    Good luck to you!

Heads up that you may still want salad but your body might not. Before surgery I LOVED salad, and dreamed of the day i could eat it again. Every time I've had it since (18 months out. Big/small, dressing or none etc) I throw up.

I can handle romaine leaves in a lettuce wrap with extra meat and have to break an unwich into 2 meals

Post-op diet recommendations differ a lot, so speak to your treatment team. I was cleared after 4 weeks for all foods (this time only 3 weeks). I tolerate raw vegetables just fine.

In the last 6 months, I've lost 35kg, dropped my body fat percentage from 40% to 25% and have lost countless cms from my body measurements. My surgeon, dietician and exercise physiologist we're delighted with my results. In fact the surgeon said "gee, you've lost the weight well" when he saw me. I'm assuming he just means I look awesome now lol. I'm now in the healthy BMI range. And my fave result, my thighs no longer rub when I walk!
This surgery has been life changing in every way, I wish it had done it ten years ago, and skipped another 5 cycles of yoyo diets and all the associated self loathing and trauma.
My before photo is not even at my biggest, I got pretty good at dodging the camera.

Doing ok! Hoping and praying for a quick resolution. Most of my immediate family members are considered essential and still must travel to work (in NYC) Including an ER doc, biochemist, Police Captain, Security officers, public servants, etc.

Also clothes! I keep at least one item from my pre-surgery days, and a selection of other items that I as I am able to fit into them. When I feel that nothing is changing, I line them up, and have a look at the difference. It gives me encouragement, seeing clear evidence that my body is truly changing! I also have certain "wish" outfits, that are still too small, but every couple of weeks I try them on anyway, and I can see that I am getting closer to having them fit, and that also gives me encouragement

Welp...just had my Telemedicine appt with my surgeon. It's been canceled. I'm REALLY ok with it. Better safe than sorry and/or DEAD. He assured me that I was at the top of the list when they start rescheduling....but that's about it!

    It's MY time!

I absolutely understand the disappointment und frustration all of you must feel. I also think it's important to talk about this and no, maybe coming across "a bit selfish" doesn't matter. Come across as "selfish" as you like.
Whenever the disappointment and frustration hits and you're all like "F*ck this damn virus!!", maybe you could remember some things:
    - your surgery is postponed, not cancelled.
    - you wouldn't want to be in a hospital now or in a few weeks down the road if you can help it.
    - ICU capacity is limited and every surgery has the potential to bring on the need for being on the ICU. You don't want to need a bed on the ICU during the next weeks because there might be none available the moment you need it.
    - you don't want to be in immediate recovery from abdominal surgery as long as COVID-19 runs rampant. My revision is 4 weeks ago now, the fixing of a hernia only a week and I'm asking myself if my immune system is already as competent as it usually is - not a fun thing to ask yourself these days.
When feeling all of this completely understandable frustration and disappointment maybe try to remember that WLS is always abdominal surgery including general anesthesia with lots of complications being possible and not a quick and unproblematic surgery so many patient's recovery is really easy from.
I'm absolutely sure that all people on this thread are completely aware of the things I wrote above. However, it can be hard to remember when disappointment and frustration hits.
Hang in there! Your surgery is postponed, not cancelled.

First of all, congratulations on your decision to change your life and on your wonderful weight loss!
I can empathize 110% as I wrote almost an identical post around the three week mark. I was so frantic that this wasn't going to work for me, and it would fail like so many attempts to lose weight before. The weight wasn't coming off and I was angry and depressed.
This group answered in much the same way, and it helped me through a difficult time.
It is frustrating as hell, because you are making sacrifices and following the guidelines but it feels like it's not working.
The truth is, though, that it IS working and the amount of weight you lost is truly something to be happy about.
It is also very true that even though you may feel good, your body is not fully healed inside until 6 to 8 weeks post-surgery, at least. That means inflammation, even though you don't see it. So, the scale will not be accurate for a while.
As frustrating as it is, stay the course, keep following your doctor's recommendations, WALK as much as you can, and hide the scale! I obsessively weighed myself every day, and had to hide my scale to force myself to weight only once a week, at the same time of day.
Also, use your measuring tape, as you might not see a loss in weight, but you may see a loss in inches.
Finally, have patience. That is the hardest thing for me, as I just want to lose all the weight at once. Realistically, though, I know that won't happen, and it is a gradual process.
Six months from now, you will look in the mirror and see a different person--promise!

I was sleeved on 3/3 as well and I’m down 14 pounds. I wanted to lose faster as well but I’m happy it’s working. Slow and steady wins the race per all the parables in childhood. ❤️ Good luck and keep up the great work! It will work for both of us as long as we keep putting in the work.

I lost 16 lbs the first MONTH, and I started out way heavier than you. I should also add that I ended up losing 100% of my excess weight.
the only factor you really have any control over is your food intake, and it sounds like you're doing fine with that. The other things that influence rate of weight loss - like age, gender, metabolic rate, starting BMI - you don't have control over. So just sit tight, stick to your plan, and don't worry. In the long run, your level of commitment is what's going to cause you to succeed (or not), not your rate of weight loss. Besides, there's nothing wrong with losing 16 lbs the first three weeks. Although I don't have research stats on this, I've been on these boards for several years. I would say a majority of us lose 15-25 lbs the first month, so you're right on target.
P.S. as Summerset said, 600-650 calories/day at this juncture is not too much. You are doing fine. Stay off the scale if you have to - and quit worrying!

The slower the better sometimes. It will all come off in the end. Focus on the day to day eating and even though its coming off slow you will see the long term results over time.
