  1. My youngest brother asked me today to do Tough Mudder with him next May!!! Everything inside me cringed.  LOL. Maybe ten years ago I would have said YEAH! I'm reminded just ow my words to him the other day (he works out with a Marine), "your body can do so much more then you think you can." I guess I should chew my own words and do this thing. Would you do it?

You can totally do it! I wish I had someone in my life who wanted me to do something similar!

  2. 6/26 - I had a bad day. My bf and I broke up. He stated that he preferred me bigger and that had he known things would change that he would have never supported the decision. When I asked how things changed, he stated the following:

    1) You put on makeup more

    2) You get your nails done more

    3) You do your hair more

    4) You dress differently. You do not cover up as much

    5) Guys look at you more (Ding! Ding! Ding!)

    6) They hit on you more (Jackpot!!)

I was stunned as he continued on his rant. At that point he told me he needed space and that he felt he needed time to get used to the new situation.

Before this journey I would ate my feelings away. I would have cried, watch romantic movies, Jack and Rose would have been my idols, my heart would have not gone on and I would have gained 5 lbs in one day. However, I felt no desire to stuff my face. Actually I felt nothing. After thinking about what he said and talking to my mom, I decided to end the relationship. I do not want that toxic attitude in my positive environment. I made a hard choice, however I am sure I made the right choice.

6/27 - Still followed my Keto diet. I did have a sugar free Popsicle. Went to the gym. Noticed something disturbing, my boobies are starting to have loose skin :48_weary:. I knew it would happened but I was hoping it would not. I boobs do not fit in my bra's anymore. They are sliding under the wire like peek-a-boo. SMH.

My boobs are also full of loose skin. They don't fall out of my bra (I'm not sure they ever would do their shape I guess) but I feel I will probably need to go to a B cup soon (I was a very full D at the time of surgery). I'm already saving up for the breast lift I know I'll need to have. ;)

The good and the bad - it sucks to be in a break-up, but it's great when you know you are better off than being in a toxic relationship. I'm perpetually single (always have been, probably always will be) but I really don't understand the partners of people who go through bariatric surgery. What did they think would happen?

I've been going through something similar - I recently reunited with my birth father (!) - very unexpectedly - and despite him saying he has a "big heart" he often goes hot (always emailing me) and cold (ignoring me if I say something he doesn't like, or in the most recent case, postponing our first meet-up). However, I found out about him about 2 months after surgery and even then I was pulling back a bit because all I could think about was "I don't need this drama in my life right now, I can't afford to go off the rails because of emotional ups and downs" - but it's hard to know the right way forward.

  4. I have hit the dreaded stall. I had surgery on May 26th, so this is a little disheartening. Trying to remind myself that this is a part of the process. It's still frustrating though. (-_-) I have been bouncing been 1.5 lbs for the past week and a half. Just have to focus on getting my water and protein in and ignore the stall. Maybe I should just hide the scale?

  5. Well it's about bloody time. I'm down a couple of pounds...257 lbs from 260 lbs after almost a month.

By the way does anyone snack on nuts like almonds or peanuts or cashews or sunflower seeds...I know there fattening but aren't they healthy fat ?

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

Are nuts or seeds allowed by your nutritionist/doctor? Some recommend waiting for quite a while after surgery to make sure nothing gets stuck in the staple line.

  6. I check my own ticker to remind myself how close my surgery is, because it seems sort of surreal, especially how fast time is going...Is that weird?

  7. I found a blog on Pinterest of a lady doing an arm workout. Showed her amazing results after three months.  12 min a day. I think I'll try this and do a before and after on it too.

So after being back at the gym, I find myself loving it, but also thinking I could save my money to go towards a breast lift and workout at home/school track, etc instead.  I'm on the fence about it right now.

  9. 2 week post op appt today. All is well. Right on track, but ahead says my surgeon. 14 lbs down from surgery. Feeling great!!! 😂

  10. Ughh - hair loss is very real. My hairline is noticeably thinner. I've been losing hair constantly for the past 3 weeks (exactly 3 months post-up). Today was the first day I dyed my hair since the hair loss started and everytime I went to squeeze water out of my hair, more hair kept sliding out. I know it's temporary but it's still scary!

Sherrie, I'm kind of like you. I have fine hair, but I had a thick head of it when I was younger - could barely get the hair band to go around twice for a ponytail. Now, it's like 3 or 4 times! Honestly, I saw a picture of my current adult ponytail and thought - what the hell? It's so tiny! I also take Hair Skin and Nails and use biotin shampoo and conditioner, and hit my protein goals everyday, but clearly it's not enough to stop the hair loss. I just hope it doesn't get too noticeable by others before it starts to grow back in. My hair is pretty straight, I wonder if it will grow in curlier (which happened to my mother when she got older, after all her pregnancies).

  12. I have now officially lost 200 pounds! Only 17 to go!

  13. Captain's Log - Day 119:

My scale just told me I have lost a total of 50 lbs. today! I am only 12 pounds away from being under 200. 😁

  14. I weighed 200 pounds this morning!  Getting below 200 pounds is a major milestone.  I'm hoping to be there in the next few days!!!

Congrats! I too cannot wait to get under 200 pounds (only 10 pounds more to go to hit 199!)

  15. As of today, I'm halfway to goal! 70 pounds down, 70 more to go... And I'm just under 10 pounds away from hitting onederland! I'm 3.5 months out from surgery today and I have to say that even though the weight loss seems slow at times, I'm very happy to be where I am right now.

  16. Sleeved this past Monday. The first 24 hours were just awful but normal, I guess. Got way better yesterday. I decided to stay the one extra night. Ins paid for it and I wanted to use what attention I could get medically and have a small break before heading home to three young girls. Lol. The incision site where they stiched my muscle, is very sensitive and hurts when I cough/laugh, so I'm looking to get a smaller binder to help put some pressure on it. Gas pain wasn't too bad, just burped everything out. Overall, I feel pretty good. Could use a nap though. Just waiting for my discharge papers. 😊

Are you able to walk around much? I know it's hard with the fatigue, but so important to do.

  17. The process has been AMAZING so far!!! I am 6 moths post op. My surgery was Nov 08, 2016. I am down 100Lbs as of today. Not a ton of sagging skin but I work on my bowflex everyday and get a full body oil massage every other week (including cupping) to help my skin.  I have only had a few minor issues with vitamin absorbtion. I get Iron infusions once a week and give myself B12 shots once a week. But that is nothing!! and I feel great!

I still hate that sick feeling after I eat! I try many different foods but Greek yogurt w/ protein is the ONLY thing that doesn't make me feel like crap after I eat it.  The feeling always passes in about 30 min but that 30 min is spent feeling like I need to lay down or get sick. Anyone that says this is the 'easy' way has NO idea what we go through EVERY day! you don't realize how much of a luxury eating was till you can't. My before and after is attached.

  19. Today I did an experiment and ate my veggies, well it was mushrooms which aren't really veggies with my meat. The result was the same as when I eat salads out. Protein didn't sit in my stomach as long, and I wasn't full/satisfied as long. Going to stick with eating my veggies separate

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

Interesting - based on a number of your posts I have gone back to eating protein first, leaving veggies second (if I can), and/or loading up on protein meals throughout the day and ending with an all veggie meal for dinner. Even in a short amount of time I've noticed the difference in fullness I experience.

  20. Day 7 pre-op:

So much easier when I've got work/routine. The weekend was brutal but I made it through. I've got a busy week, so hopefully it'll fly by.

  21. Threw out 3 garbage bags of clothes today - the old, stained, repaired, kept "just in case" clothing that is just taking up too much room in my closets. One of those bags was just pants with lots of dreaded "chubb rub" repairs. I'm left with 6 storage boxes of clothes (down from 14) that I would like to sell or give away, hopefully in the next month. I've kept one storage box (only about 1/2 full, surprisingly) of favourite too-big clothes, just for future reference/photos. Even as I was packing stuff up, I was like "how did I ever think this was kind of a normal size?"

Actually, the cost is probably similar to most other first-world countries. You can get cheap stuff and really expensive stuff. There are a few foreign brands here, like the Gap, Eddie Bauer, H&M...and some Japanese brands that have become more popular worldwide like UNIQLO. However, most of the sizes are only for Japanese - so for example, the biggest size at Eddie Bauer is a 12, but it's a 12P (for petite). That doesn't mean for shorter women, it's smaller overall (more like a 6 or 8 back home). Interestingly, UNIQLO is selling larger sizes (up to 3X - Japanese 3X, not US sizes) to cater to the many tourists who shop there while visiting the country. As such, I was able to buy a cardigan and a pair of pants there that I really like. The pants are still too small - but if I lose 20 pounds I'm pretty sure I'll be able to wear them in public.

Generally speaking, many Japanese women have next to nothing for boobs, at least until they have children (99% of bras are padded), narrow shoulders and backs, no hips, no butts (flat, flat, flat - sometimes it's just a fold to indicate where the butt stops and the leg begins). That means, even for thin Western women who live here, there isn't much for them either, since the tops are too small (not broad enough in the back/shoulders, no room for boobs), and pants don't fit well either, since they don't leave any extra room for a real booty or hips. Of course, that's just a generalisation, but I have no idea where larger women who don't fit the mold shop for clothes. Luckily for me, even though I don't go home that often, I do travel in Asia quite a bit, and almost any other country has more options than Japan has, either because they have a legacy of colonialism and/or have a long history of Western tourists visiting. That means there are many other foreign brands that I can shop at, and they do carry real plus sizes.

I have one box of clothes to "shrink into" - mostly size 14-16 (or mediums for tops), and a couple of loose-fitting 12s...The clothes that are slightly too tight to wear in public are already in my closet now and are marked out with hot pink hangers.

I have one entire box of clothes that still have tags on them, never worn. Hopefully I can get some decent money (30-50% of original cost) for those. Another box of barely worn clothes (5 times or less). I don't even want to think about how much money I've wasted on clothes never or barely worn (a couple thousand at least). As for shopping, of course, I want my rate of weight loss to continue as it has been, but at the same time I hope I don't have to do too much shopping online before I go home this summer, since trying things on in person is always so much better than guessing with online shopping (especially with international shipping).

  23. Down 60 pounds today! I was very happy to see the scale drop below the 100kg mark this morning - it's such a wonderful visual reminder that things are working (slowly but surely). Once I lose 10 more pounds I will be halfway to goal, which is almost unbelievable to me!

Gyms opening at 10 a.m. is pretty much unheard of everywhere. Welcome to Japan! Though I think some gyms are starting to have earlier hours, like 9 a.m. Luckily, there's a local community center right down the street from me, and they have a gym which only costs about $3 per use, which is a great deal. The hours still aren't great, but at least I don't have to pay for an expensive membership.

Well, I lost just over 20 pounds during my 3-week pre-op (non-liquid) diet, and another 40 pounds since surgery. The only exercise I do is walk - I definitely get over 10,000 steps a day (closer to 15,000), but it seems that the scale really moves when I get over 20,000 steps a day. This Thursday will be my 3-month surgiversary, and I know I definitely need to start doing some weight training, which I hope to start this week. For now, I'll just use the weights I have at home, but as I get stronger I hope to go to a local pay-as-you-go gym once or twice a week (regular gyms are not a great option for me - the hours are absurd (they don't open till 10 a.m.) and very expensive (at least $150/month, when at best I could go twice a week).
