What to bring to the hospital

I brought pj pants and very glad I did. Also brought deodorant since they wouldn't let me use it before surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    How's everyone doing?!

Sleeved yesterday! Pain not to terrible but nausea is. I'm able to get up and walk around, put my shoes on, etc. still on IV pain meds so I think that helps a lot. I'm completely exhausted and have a hard time keeping awake but so far I'm doing great emotionally.
  4. At 5'2" I would like To get down to 131, a normal BMI. But my reaching goal is 125. The lowest I've been as an adult was 145 (for about a week) but hovered around 150 for a while and was a size 8. That seems large for my height and bone structure (small). I think a 4-6 is a more appropriate size range for me.

    I'm Finally Sleeved!

Congrats. I'll be sleeved by this time next week.
  6. So the only preop requirement I have is a Liquid diet starting noon the day before surgery. The anesthesiaologist told me no alcohol 3 days before surgery. So wondering what other folks thoughts are on this. I've done fine on all my preop prep and lost more weight than was required.

    Surgery day!

Glad to hear all went well. I assume you are home now. How are you feeling?
  10. So I'm just about two weeks before my surgery and having some slight pain on my left side just about where I think my stomach would be and in the exact place that I had gallbladder pain years ago (before I had my gallbladder remover). Is this anything to be concerned about or is it just my mind playing tricks on me? I'm prone to anxiety and feeling very nervous about the surgery.

    So disappointed....

@@LittleBill thanks for your comment. My surgery is 2 weeks away and I've lost over 60lbs in the 6 months preop so was wondering how it would be right after surgery.

@@OhHeyMarina is there an updated link to the calendar for this group? Trying to figure out if my date has been added (December 28). Thanks.

    Woot!

@@wholenewjessica I'm both but at this point nerves are winning out. I have preop appointments Monday and Tuesday next week and hope getting all the final details will help settle me down. If not there is always Ativan and the gym!

    January 2017 Sleevers

@@barcelona37 I'm having my surgery at St Elizabeth's in Brighton. My doc doesn't have any specific preop diet but obviously I have to watch what I eat. I'm excited but also extremely nervous and anxious.

    PreOp UTI?

Wow, it's like you read my mind. I'm prone to UTIs and the last one I had I didn't even realize it so I've been thinking of going to my Pcp to have her do a urine sample. Of course I was worried this might affect my surgery date (December 28). Glad to read other people have this concern.

    Diet After Surgery

Right there with you. Was leaning vegan and then pushed onto whey powder. I went into my post op appointment and they excitedly told me I can have egg drop soup and skim milk! Well, cool, but no thanks. I'll finish my prescribed whey and figure it out myself then. The veggie broth in the hospital was to die for though! Hope my hospital has veggie broth! My nut basically approved any Protein powder I brought in as long as it was at least 20grams of protein and no added sugars. I've been using Protein shakes in my preop plan for months now, switching back and forth between pea protein and soy protein powders. Also I've found an almond milk, orgrain, that has 10grams of protein per cup which is more than most soy milks. So that's what I've discovered so far. Good luck to both of us!
  20. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm sure all went well. I'm just a coup,e of weeks away from my surgery and feeeling totally scared. In fact the terror set in about a day after I got my date. It's been a long journey for me (over 6 months) so I know I am making the right decision it all the upcoming changes are scarey. I know I won't be able to sleep the night before and am hoping my doctor will give me some Ativan on my preop appointment next week. I, too, had no preop diet just a weight loss goal to achieve to be approved. And that's another thing that scares me but I'm trying to accept that the dr and his team knows best. Please keep us posted when you come out of surgery.

    Diet After Surgery

I wish I had access to Dr Davis. As a long term vegan headed into sleeve surgery at the end of the month I feel like I'm getting very little guidance from my dr team about food post surgery. They are ok with me staying vegan but basically are giving me the regular diet plan and telling me to figure out how to veganize it. I hope I can figure it out.

    6.5 pounds in 4 days!

I keep reading everyone's preop diet stuff and get concerned. My dr office has no preop diet. I was required to loose weight before they would submit to insurance and I did (60lbs), which is way more than the required amount. But now I'm trying not to loose weight while I'm waiting for surgery (per my nut) which is driving me crazy. Is my liver going to be fat if I'm not on a weight loss regime going into surgery. And honestly I'm continuing to loose weight now without wanting to. I think I was eating to few calories before so now my body is shedding weight. I don't know how to get the right balance and my nut is no help. He told me to add fruit into my diet, which I did. Anyway, back to my initial concern. Is the fact that I'm not on a strict regime going to make the surgery harder for me? I just want to be in the best shape possible going into surgery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
