    Slow recovery?

I thought I was recovery on target till I read your post! I was sleeved on 12/28 and have only gone out 3x. Once to drive my mom somewhere, once to my therapist and yesterday I walked to the pharmacy to pick up some meds. And I'm exhausted today after that short walk. I've been walking about 3 miles around the house every day but that walk outside yesterday really took it out of me. I spend my whole day just trying to get in my protein shakes and water.

    Getting Water In

11 days out I sip constantly. I set my timer for 30 minutes after breakfast, fill up my 20 oz water bottle and sip sip sip. When I get that down, set that timer again, have my next "meal", when it goes off and when I'm finished the timer goes back on. I do this all day from the minute I get up till I go to bed. I basically spend my whole day drinking water or my protein shake. Would love to get a nap in once in a while but no time!

    Orange Juice

I'm having the same craving 11 days post op except I just want to use a little to flavor my water. All those flavor drops and stuff just don't taste like anything to me but sweetener. I'm going to ask my nutritionist when I see him Wednesday.

    Coffee

I was told no coffee for 3 months . Not even decaf. I have the date marked on my calendar. Don't even know if I could get past the first sip right now but it still sounds appealing. NUT said it was to much acid on a healing stomach. I have my first post op appointment later this week, and I'm going to ask if decaf or green tea is ok. Herbal isn't cutting it!
  5. I was able to shower the day I was discharged.

    My work here is done

I consider myself a newbie as I just got sleeved in December. I find it so disappointing that so many vets are stepping out because some newbies are not receptive. That being said, I haven't read all the posts people are referring to and I assume their was some vitriol spewed at the vets which I can only imagine is hard to tolerate. It's just sad for folks like me who aren't trying to eat bacon or other inappropriate foods 1 week post op. I've dieted my whole life and would like this surgery to be the life change I need. I could really use all the valuable insight that the vets have.
  7. I used almost everything I brought. I packed cell phone, charger, iPad, charger, extension cord, earbuds, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, pj pants, clean undies, sleep mask (absolutely necessary as my roommate like her light on all night), gas x strips (didn't use these), hairbrush, protein powder packs and my blender bottle (I'm a vegan and the hospital only had dairy based protein drinks) and dry mouth spray. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights because I was so nauseous.

    Feeling so sad

I just wanted to thank EVERYONE for their kind and supportive words. @@Suaniya thank you for reaching out so personally and as you mentioned it's been a Lot Of changes over the past few months. I know all of this is temporary so I try to stay focused on the positive. You all helped me get through a rough night and I'm going to keep coming back and reading all the kind and wonderful comments every time I start feeling down. In fact, I think I will print them out and post them around my house! One of the nice things about living alone, I can do silly things like that.

    Dry mouth?!

Me too, and I've suddenly become a mouth breather at night. Plus my nose drips all the time since surgery last week. Driving me crazy!

    Losing before surgery.

@@JamieLogical You situation sounds exactly like mine. Except that Im only 1 week since I had my surgery. So my question for you is did you find the sleeve to be the tool you needed to maintain your weight loss?

My horrible experience at a restaurant.

I completely agree with the above quoted post except that there was NO reason for the staff to be rude. When you are in the service industry (as I have been many times in recent past) you must always be polite to the customer. I should hope that management uses this experience to clarify their policy to customers in the future to avoid this.

    1 week post op today!

I'm one week as of today myself. I'm on what my dr office called stage 3 diet since coming home which includes protein powder shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, and of course protein shakes. As a vegan, I'm only eating the protein powder shakes trying to put as much powder in as possible to up the protein grams. I can only get down about 6oz at a time (with difficulty). I tried mixing protein powder with soy yogurt but found it unpalatable. I can't even imagine actually eating mashed potatoes right now, though it does sound yummy. I wonder how long it will be till I can drink a 12oz shake in one sitting!

    Carbonation

I'm a very recent sleever but hope some day I can drink a little beer and champagne. I have no interest in soda ever again. Haven't been much of a soda drinker since I was a kid. Anyway my understanding is that any carbonation can be problematic for life. Still it's something I'm willing to give up if needed!
  15. I was sleeved on December 28th, 6 days ago. I've cried almost every day since surgery and I've had my doubts but I do know that I've done the right thing. I'm sorry all these smells are making you nauseous. It's unfortunate that you have to deal with that. I hope that it is strictly inadvertent. Just try to hold strong. We can do this!

    Pain on right side

I just spoke to the nurse practitioner at my surgeons office for the exact same pain. I was told it was from the stomach being pulled out from there and the abdominal muscles being cut during the procedure. I'm just 6 days post op.
  17. I was expecting all the problems getting my protein shakes down and meeting protein goals but had no idea how hard drinking water (or herbal tea, vitamin water, etc) would be. Even the tinest sip gave me nausea. This has been much more challenging than the shakes and protein. Today is better but wonder if I'll make it even close to 64 oz of water. I hope I can because I am so THIRSTY. Even though I thought I had prepared mentally for everything and even heard water would be a challenge but just didn't understand. I just hope eventually I can drink water more like a normal person!!
  18. To all that responded I actually meant the word water to represent any liquids that help me reach my fluid goal. I've tried herbal tea, vitamin water and plain water. Today was the first day I had success getting any of this down. The weird thing is that even though I'm not digging the taste of all these flavored beverages they seem to agree more with my sleeve. I do actually feel constantly full from all the water and the attempts to get my protein in. But I still have head hunger andd feel like I could eat real food (though I have no intention of trying).

    Any vegetarians also get sleeved?

4 days post-op. Been a vegan for 15 years and vegetarian for 15 years before that. Don't know how I will make it work long term but right now just trying to get protein in with shakes.

    January 2017 Sleevers

@@barcelona37 my nut said I would have to continue with the protein shakes but I know there are some high protein veg foods like seitan. At this point I'm only 4 days out of surgery but I am committed to staying vegan whatever it takes. I brought a couple of protein powder individual packs to the hospital and my blender bottle as I wasn't sure they would have anything for me. I'm glad I did as they tried to serve me yogurt and ensure for my first protein meal. The hospital didn't even have soy milk to blend my powder with but water worked ok.

    Drinking Water

I'm 3 days from sleeve surgery and am having tons of trouble drinking Water. I just spent 45 minutes getting 2oz of water mixed with Vitamin water zero down and am feeling nauseous, burpy, and uncomfortable. Got 4oz of a to thick Protein shake in about an hour with very little problem. I'm just home from hospital this afternoon so I figure I have a little cushion for today because I can't face drinking any more water today. Should I try herbal tea tomorrow? @@barcelona37 I'm actually vegan. Pre surgery I used vega sport protein, garden of light raw protein, jarrow unflavored (though actually has a strong vanilla taste), unjury unflavored pea protein powders. Not sure what is going to go down post surgery. Working on a vega sport right now but it's very thick made exactly as directed. The garden of light went down easier but less protein overall. Just home from hospital this afternoon so now is the time to experiment.
  24. Everything went well. And pain is completely manageable! Nausea is not so manageable. Hoping they keep me in hospital until I can take some liquids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
