  1. Affecting is the correct word. Yeah, I thought about bring shtuff to do, but ultimately was glad I didn't. I may have been mentally present but I kept nodding off, and I know that just means either shoddy work or no real work at all. I had surgery on Tuesday and I'm planning to work from home on Monday, if I can get my surgeon's office to fax over a Return to Work release. My firm is big on the letter of the law; technically I'm off until the 13th, and they won't let me work before then without a release.
  2. I'm not being nasty. In general most websites prohibit sockpuppets. Sockpuppets are generally used by unscrupulous people to make it appear that other people agree with them.
  3. Day 4 after surgery: getting all my liquids in, no nausea, no vomiting. Taking only 4 pills a day (three of which are temporary), down from 11 in the morning and 5 at night. No insulin for 5 days, perfect blood sugars before and after every meal.

You are kicking butt man! Keep up the good work!

  4. So... the forum is totally okay with @RealScoobyDoo and Imdeb being the same sockpuppet? @@LipstickLady , thoughts?
  5. Maybe if your husband is not on board with your decision, you need to start thinking about kicking him off the ship.

    Family at the hospital

You probably won't be slee ping (vitals checks every two hours, noisy compression sleeves, buzzing IVs), and neither will they. Send them home; they don't need to be there.

    Pain after surgery

I just had surgery on Tuesday. The pain when I awoke was like someone had kicked me in the stomach an hour ago. By the end of the first day, it was just a very dull ache. The past two days have basically been pain-free. Walk, like your doctor tells you to do.
  8. My surgeon checks out the gall bladder and will remove it if it looks diseased or if there are already problems. They also check out the liver for problems and will do a biopsy if it looks bad. If you have a healthy gall bladder, it stays.

    Pet peeve: extra skin.

That's definitely not what I got out of the original post... she was talking about people who use the "threat" of loose skin as an excuse not to lose weight/have surgery in the first place. I do see posts like that here all the time... people tipping their toes in the Water and trying desperately to find an excuse not to change their behavior, lose weight, or have surgery. After weight loss, I don't any person here would deride someone for having plastics to remove excess skin. I understand we're all defensive, but I think that y'all are jumping the gun and reading what you want, not what was actually said.

You know you lost weight when

When you're walking around the bariatric unit in the hospital and your gym shorts are sliding off your ass.
  11. Well this has been the easiest recovery ever... almost no pain post-op in the hospital, and I'm certain the Lortab (liquid vicodin) I just picked up from the pharmacy is going to be completely unused. Already lost all of the IV water weight and down below my surgery weight. I'm now no longer "morbidly obese," I'm just "obese" according to the charts. It's been a hell of a three days...

After the first 4-6 hours I was completely off of the pain meds as well. I had the same experience that you are having. Smooooth!

I'm glad your recovery is going so well!

Actually, I'm rather enjoying the broth and jello. I have absolutely no appetite, and now basically no pain, either. Hardest thing about the surgery so far has been keeping the cats off of me! :-)

    Bubble baths?

Specifically, no water immersion until all of your incisions have fully healed.

    Suit - Sport Coat

Today is day 3, and my gym shorts are already falling off my ass just walking around the bariatric unit. LOL, I hope my old clothes last a little while longer than that, or I'm going to go broke trying to stay clothed for the next 6 months!
  15. I'm also curious about this. Any weight loss surgery is going to lose a lot of it's effects years later, that's how people end up regaining. You've done a good job maintaining a lower weight. What's going to happen in 2 more years when the restriction wears off again? Are you going to keep having it done over and over? Not to mention, that at 5'5" and 167# she is only in the Overweight category, which for most patients is basically at or very near the doctor's goal. She'd have to be 4'6" to even be considered Obese at that weight. No reputable doctor would touch a patient that's already at a reasonable goal weight with a 10' scalpel. 16. Checking in for surgery this time tomorrow morning...

  17. I was sleeved March 2013. Got down to 142 at 5'5" and stayed there for over 2 years. Then I would gain 5 pounds, the take it off, then gain 10 pounds and take it off, but over the past year my weight has steadily crept back up again to 167. I was drinking iced lattes, but no juices, sodas, not eating sweets. But I have lost pretty much all the appetite suppression I enjoyed for such a long time. And now I'm having issues again with reflux, joint and back pain. I haven't discussed it yet with my surgeon, so I don't know if it will be a sleeve redo or a DS. Don't take this the wrong way, but why not look at your own behavior first before jumping into another surgery? The appetite suppression was never a permanent feature; it's always been temporary. Alcohol

Our plan says never, citing statistics that Bariatric surgery patients who continue to drink have a 8-10x greater percentage chance to develop cirrhosis of the liver than the general population. That's interesting. I've never heard that. Could you provide me with the reference? The specific wording in our manual is "*the bariatric center* has a policy never to recommend alcohol consumption after any bariatric procedure. Eighty percent of the alcohol you ingest will go as a toxin to the liver resulting in a higher level of intoxication and more liver damage." The 8-10x increase in cirrhosis was listed on the presentation slide, of which I unfortunately do not have a hard copy of. (hopefully it's not something they pulled out of their @$$, they are supposed to be reputable...)
  19. Coverage depends on your actual plan (Kaiser is not a "plan" it is a provider). If your coverage includes Bariatric, then it will be covered; if it excludes it, it will not be covered.

  21. My doctor's requirement was 10 pounds. (~10% of excess weight)
  22. Pre-op class... done! All I have to do is fork over about $13,000 to my doctor and show up for surgery on Tuesday!

Congrats, Fredbear! I agree with HFFM...you need to come up with something unique post-op. You've been here too long to go with something boring like tacos!

Blood, drink a full large bottle of blood with a straw. Justify that it is good for your iron. Add GenePro to it, with some methylated/moonshine spirit in it to make you feel better!
