Hannah83 reacted to orionburn in How do you keep from regaining weight and stretching stomach?
A million times this. It's actually easy to regain if you really want to. Eating slider foods and grazing all day on the wrong things makes for an easy way to take too many calories in and start gaining again. WLS is a tool that needs to be combined with a lifestyle change. Over time your sleeve will stretch somewhat (it's supposed to) but as the others said it's pretty much impossible to stretch it back to its old size.

My surgeon told me that while you could slightly stretch it, it is physically impossible for your stomach to ever be as big as it was. It only limits you from overeating in one sitting. If you graze all day on unhealthy foods, you will regain.

I was scheduled for sleeve on May 30, 2017 I was in the hospital with the IV in my arm and I backed out at the last second. That was a decision I regret to this day. I eventually got sleeved January 18 but I sure wish I could go back and have it done on the 30th. I guess that’s what it takes in order for your addiction to food to be realized!

Oh Sara, please don't let someone else talk you out of this.
I also had never been "put under" hell i had never been in a hospital except to be born. All my contacts with hospitals had to do with visiting someone and i even avoided that when i could. So i was just a little nervous (insert terrified) about the idea. That One moment of fear has been replaced with day after day and now month after month of improving Health and an improved Life. The last time i was "skinny" i was in 10 grade. 7 months ago i was taking pills for blood pressure and diabetes and my sleep apnea was so bad my doctor said i aged her 5 years when my sleep study came in. The lack of deep sleep for more than 2 years had made me lose large parts of my short term memory. i had to write everything down as it happened to refer back because a day or 2 later i would not even remember seeing someone or having talked to them.
Today i take no meds at all and i sleep 9 hrs every night and i havent fallen asleep in the daytime since surgery.
Pls dont let a very short term fear about a procedure that has a very low complication rate stop you from having a much healthier and happier life. It will be worth it. Stay strong for a few more weeks and you will have a chance at a different life. This surgery is a chance to live in a different way that is both harder (mental ) and easier at the same time. I had truly forgotten what it was like to go about my day without my weight being a consideration in any way.
I still have what i call the HARD 50 to go but i have already won this cause i feel amazing and i feel alive and i could not have said that 7 months ago.
Pls dont give up when you are so close.

Since this is "elective" surgery, a lot of family members freak out about it. But guess what else is "elective"? Knee replacements, hip replacements, all of the invasive procedures done to keep your joints working. I told my family I'm doing one "elective" surgery now with the goal of never having to do another surgery.
And yeah, your family is probably glomming on to the band because it's the only one that's reversible, but when I was in pre-op I saw a board of surgeries for the day and there were three band removals listed. I'm sure your family haven't looked into it deeply enough to realize that.
At the end of the day, it's your decision. Their opinion is important, but take it as an expression of how much they care for you. It's a huge mistake to allow someone else's fears to undermine your own diligent research. Explain to them why you're doing it, why the sleeve is best, and just stand your ground.

It was an encouraging thing to hear a message from my paster about his own personal weight and gluttony struggles. The message centered around 'do you want to be made whole' the example of many given when we go to the ER or hospital outside there are those with an IV pole, smoking with an oxygen mask. The obvious is they want healing but not wholeness.
He was convicted by God about his weight when various health issues came crashing down on him. He elected to have a gastric bypass done a year ago. None but a few in the congregation knew.
As Jesus said to the man at the pool, 'do you want to be made whole' who'd been sitting there for 38 years. He took up his mat and walked, was made whole.
It takes courage to come forward and admit to this, I struggle myself with gluttony and it is sinful to willfully abuse my body in that way because, in the end, it's not being a good steward of my body, and I'm not able to live fully without being whole in every way.
Potlucks, dinners etc. at church are a thing, and it's an issue that is swept under the rug a lot.
The following are quotes from his notes:
"I know this is an extremely sensitive issue. As a recovering obese man, and I purposely choose this phrase and terminology as it is an addiction, no different than drugs or alcohol. Eating sweet and high-fat foods releases dopamine in your brain, pleasure stimulants."
"A recovering alcoholic should never take the drink any alcoholic drink, a recovering smoker shouldn’t partake of any tobacco product, a recovering gambling addict shouldn’t be buying lottery tickets! I can’t eat Desserts, snack foods etc… It’s certainly permitted in the Bible but I can’t control myself with them. I needed an intervention. As most of you already know, with great conviction, prayer, prompting of the Holy Spirit coupled with the loving support of my family and the leadership of the congregation I elected to undergo Gastric By-Pass surgery a year ago, January 2017. 162 pounds later it's off! But its not over. "
"I’ve had comments such as: “oh, you took the easy way”. First I can tell you that no surgery is easy. Second, I recently, much to my chagrin gained 8 pounds of which I immediately got off. Even though I had the surgery I can gain it back by eating the wrong things. The surgery just kicks started my weight loss, I must continue to exercise daily (a fit bit) and log everything I eat, and I mean everything. "
His wife Barb has been doing low carb, high Protein high veggies some fruit for the last year with him and has lost 60 pounds. She herself is short, but her testimony floored me.
God asked her, 'What will you do when you say here I am Lord send me, and yet you are physically unable to be sent?'
That stuck with me, and in tears, I repented and daily come to God for assistance.
The Bible has a lot to say about taking care of our bodies:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
    1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
    1 Corinthians 9:24-27
It was so encouraging to me that I went to my paster and told him I had the sleeve done in Oct. and he smiled and said congratulations, keep going you look great!
As a couple that leads our church, I admire them for their honesty and commitment to God, themselves their family and us as a congregation they've been entrusted with. They both are servant leaders and I am thankful for them.
I just thought that this would encourage others, for it says in the scriptures that we are to encourage one another with the very thing we've been encouraged with. Hope this helps someone.

I took phentermine a while back and it leads to a psychotic break. It's a dirty comedown from the recommended dose and personally for myself made me crave more food and put on pounds while taking it. I might be unique, I might not be, but I have a history of past upper abuse in my 20's and all I found any diet pills did for me was give me energy to eat and workout more. Counterproductive. They are a temporary fix at best and I don't recommend them as an overall tool but you need to decide yousrself. Talk with your pharmacist and doctor and ask for more medically qualified advice.

The following pictures are from the past two years when I started my WLS journey. In the first picture in the summer of 2016, that clinic closed but I had all this preoperation experience in my toolbox. The other two pictures are me as I took up kickboxing for 10 months prior to surgery. In October I was scheduled on the 31st in 2017. I've almost down 50 pounds so very close. The last three are of the past couple days this March 2018.

Al Gore has been saying that the science has been settled for many decades. He is not a scientist. But the scientist that support the man-made global warming theory have refused to debate the subject, saying the science is settled. Generally that means that the hypothesis stands on very weak legs. If it is really settled, it would be a slam dunk to debate and debate would provide a critical evaluation looking at the subject from all angles - that is what all of science is all about.
The most accurate temperature data set comes from satellites. Global temperatures have flatlined according to the satellite data from 1998 and the same time carbon dioxide levels have risen dramatically. A 20 year pause is not weather, it is climate. The climate has been changing for thousands of years without the aid of mankind. Went to the gym for the first time post-op (almost 4 months). I've lost strength -- lots of it. But working out felt good. I went for a swim after and found that being significantly smaller makes swimming easier (also my swim goggles fit much better on my thinner face).

I find that more often than not, I don't have the motivation to go to the gym when things are hectic - especially cardio days . However, I have been going long enough that it is habit. So I go even though I don't really want to be there. I always feel better when I leave though.
