    Has anyone had these issues

I believe Duke accepts patients who have had bad outcomes from other doctors and who need revision. They are top notch. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. You are incredibly inspiring, but in addition to your transformative weight loss.....you are a very gifted writer. You need to write, Abby!!! Tomorrow is my RNY and I will think of you and your success as I drive to the hospital in the morning. Thank you for all you do here. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Why did you choose bypass?

@ .... What an incredibly swift weight loss!! To what do you attribute your success? How did you lose so much so quickly? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Thanks, dkmohr, you are right. Finally got through to my NUT and she said no clear Proteins, so I am just sticking with broth, Water, tea. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Left 2 voice messages and sent an email to my NUT, no response. Anyone know the answer to my question, pls? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Thanks all! Waiting for an email reply from my NUT to double check. But our program actually has you start on Protein shakes (2 oz an hour) right away in the hospital, we do no clear liquid phase post op. So fingers crossed that they will be ok with it today. Oh gosh what have I done.

Hey there....you had the biggest type of weight loss surgery there is, PLUS you had a hiatal hernia repair done. That's a LOT for you to recover from. These first days are the exception, it's not always going to be like this. Take your drugs, rest, do your best with your fluids, and relax. We are here with you. 11. It's not too late, but if you were my friend I would encourage you to get into some therapy. You sound like you are depressed, which might be hormonal or situational. And could you go to a support group at your bariatric center? But if you're saying you are feeling "so down" and you are not consistently, every day, getting in your Water, Protein, and Vitamins, and you're not exercising, you're just not giving yourself a chance to succeed. There's something going on here, and you sound like you need some help. Nothing wrong with that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Big day tomorrow! :)

Wow, they checked you in a day early? That sounds nice and relaxing!! Where are you having yours done? Really surprised about the food, most of us are on Clear liquids the days before. But if your doctor ordered it, that must be in their protocol. Though, I can't say I would want hospital food to be my last "real" food before surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    August Bypass Buddies!

Wow! I am hugely impressed!! I hope that I am like you and trying an errand or two a few days post-op! Right now I just have so much anticipation anxiety, counting down the days and hours....I think it will be a relief just to be on the other side of surgery and starting to count down something else! Please keep us posted on how you are doing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Completely Undecided.

I chose bypass because I need to lose approx 50% of my current, starting weight (my BMI is 49), and I know that I (personally) need every possible advantage to help me reach my goal. I am also 49 years old, my metabolism will be slowing down soon, and I don't feel like I have much more time to waste. I have been overweight since toddlerhood, and I am ready for this to be done. I am quite healthy now considering my BMI, no co-morbidities except sleep apnea, so I am comfortable that I will be able to heal well. And I am having my surgery at Duke, so I have huge faith in the skills of my surgical team. I have GERD now, don't want to take the chance that it will get worse if I had a sleeve, and hate the thought of a revision surgery if my GERD got dangerous. So, it's RNY for me on Thursday, barely 3 days to go! Going to support groups for a few months pre-op and talking with people who have had both surgeries really helped me with my decision. Food

I do what my body is guiding me to go doctors are not always right if they are why have they said as soon I have this surgery I would be off insulin which I still am actually my body I do what I like I'm healing fine all bodies are not the same Sent from my SM-N910F using the BariatricPal App <<sigh>> Yep, doctors are such dummies.... If you're not listening to your doctor, you certainly won't listen to us (and actually, you should only ever listen to your doctor anyway, end of story). But next time maybe don't start off a post by essentially saying "hey I don't like these diet rules and I want to eat what I want, and I'll let you know how it goes"..... Generally posts that start off with telling us you are going to happily defy your doctor's orders are not well received. And don't pop back in to tell us how great the cheating went. You're not going to get high-fives here for that. Most people here do everything they can to comply with every post op request their doctor makes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve or Bypass?

I have to lose about the same (essentially half my body weight) and I decided to go with the bypass. It was an extremely hard decision, though, I nearly drove myself crazy with the what ifs. In the end, I decided to trust my doctor's guidance, and I also had to admit that I -- personally -- needed absolutely all the help I could get with this effort. And I didn't want to wind up with a revision surgery BC my GERD got worse, not better. But that's just me. I have my surgery on Thursday, 4 days away. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
