BrooklynMomma reacted to CammyC in So mad at myself for regain
Remember your why. Why did you want this back in 2014? For me it was not only my physical looks but other things. I couldn’t bend down and tie my shoes without having to breathe in between. Bending down like that cut off my breath. Another thing and this May be TMI, but I couldn’t hardly wipe my butt when I went potty. I remember sitting on the toilet crying because I couldn’t reach.
I couldn’t walk or stand more than just a few minutes without my lower back burning and aching. Diabetes and high blood pressure run in my family. These are my whys.
So you’ve gained 40 back. Thank God it’s not the 101, right? Start back with the Protein Shakes, maybe substitute a meal a day for one and when you’re comfortable with that substitute two meals a day with a shake. I lost 26 pounds in 3 months prior to surgery from that alone. When you want a snack in between, have one. But make it something healthy and filling like a banana or cottage cheese. You’ve done this before. You know what to do. All you have to do now is, just do it. Sending you positive vibes and hopes for your success!!! ❤️

I'm only telling my husband and if I didn't need a driver to and from the hospital, I wouldn't have told him. He is cool with me having the surgery (sleeve). This is a very personal mission to me and there's only room for one person in the saddle.

I am 6 weeks out and have experiened this a few times. I can eat and enjoy my food but 20 minutes later I get a severe stomach ache and have to run to the bathroom no matter where i am. It has gotten better with me this week because I am watching what I eat knowing that what caused my dumping was heavy cream in dairy foods, and greasy foods. Once it was a simple omelette at diner but they made it greasy and another time was cream Soup. Now I just introduce new foods slowly and have been kind of playing it safe with foods I know I can handle.

@ THIS THIS exactly.. I don't like strict "Do's and Don'ts" on every little thing. Some things do have to be strict Do's and Don'ts (like Protein intake) but not everything needs to be.. I much more like a "lets see how it goes" approach.. I mean who knows my new stomach may hate pop and I don't think I'd be disappointed with that..
I don't see it as eating around my sleeve.. I see it as gathering information about a topic that different docs/surgeons/ and NUTs don't all agree on so I can make a decision wisely.

Haha well I was ready to pass this as miscommunication but after reading what the great, high ranked, bariatric God @@Babbs has to say about this, and viewing that my original respondent liked such a immature response of this sort, I can whole heartedly say that there was no miscommunication. This is the definition of shaming someone for being new, and stereotyping me as part of a group I did not know existed.
This is immaturity, and says a lot about someone's character.
At any given point there are more new members than old members. And at one point, the old members were new members. So, everone, quit passing judgment and putting yourself higher than others.

Alright, before this gets any more hostile... I have come to this forum for advice many times before and there are some great people that offer great knowledge without passing judgement.
I'm this case, I came here worried about not feeling full when I realized I had ate a lot more than I had ate in over 2 months. This was while having dinner and preparing my lecture for class for tomorrow morning.
So it is my fault that I asked the question I already knew the answer for. What I should have asked is why I was able to even consume this meal without realizing I was more than full.
But In my opinion, the answer I received seemed of the shaming nature. This is my opinion, you do not have to agree. I am strongly against shaming of any form, especially on public forums. We are all here for advice and to learn. There are ways to give advice without sounding completely negative.
Yes I ate to much this time, but no that does not mean that I do not know the guidelines, or know about grazing, or not have a diet plan. I am not saying that I know it all, there was a reason for asking.
    Best,
    Sanju

Okay, 1. My doctor allows my 40-60 carbs a day because I train as a wrestler. Your guidelines are yours.
    2. A "boatload" of food for you, you cannot eat that much. But for me, I just did. I do not feel like I'm uncomfortably full, I feel normal. Don't apply your situation to everyone else when giving advice.
    3. Your style of "advice" is not advice, it is condescending. People come here for advice, not to be parented and looked down upon. We are all adults.
    4. I track everything. Calories in, calories out. Macros, and micros. My question was simple in nature. If you thought it was too much, too quick, all you needed to do was leave your last bit. You could hold off on the rest.
    Best,

I'm actually pretty private and either keeping it short "I'm dieting and working out" or "I'm doing a high Protein, low carb, low sugar diet". If anyone asks for more details I tell them about drinking shakes and basically what my real diet is. (I just leave the surgery part out).

Pre-op diets can vary significantly. Follow your program and stick with it. Not only is this to help prepare your body for a safer surgery - but it also helps to prepare your mind for post-op. Learn to deal with the head hunger and cravings now - it will make post-op easier. Take it one day (or even one hour) at a time. Have things you can have handy at all times. Don't go too long without having something - or you'll be more apt to grab something easy and off plan. Most can have broth - I suggest making your own or at least flavoring boxed/canned broth (boil with onions, celery, carrots, garlic, salt & pepper, paprika, etc). Find distractions if you are having cravings - go for a walk, clean closets, read, etc. If you are hungry - have something on plan. Stay strong - it's worth it in the long run to stick with the pre-op diet.

I don't think you should put your relationship with the surgeon over what you feel is right for your health. Your health comes before their convenience. It is crazy that you have to redo 4 months. Shame on them for trying to make you feel like garbage.

Hi! I had a belly pooch (great word) before starting. So when I lost my weight, I had no choice but to have surgery to remove it. As for my breasts, I think I was about an f cup. When I lost all my weight, I was left flat as a pancake! So I had a Tummy Tuck and boob uplift/implants done at the same time.
I won't lie, it did hurt. But it wasn't unbearable. Would I do it again? Hell yes! It completely changed my figure and confidence, it was the final chapter you know?
Happy to answer any other questions

BrooklynMomma reacted to Shaydi.Laine in Is your surgery a secret?
You don't have to lie about it. The surgery is not HOW you are losing weight. You are losing through diet and exercise. You are eating smaller portions, making healthy choices, and moving more. That is HOW you are losing weight. And that is an absolutely true, acceptable, and appropriate answer. The surgery is just a tool to help you do that, and it's nobody's business. Honestly I'm doing a lot more of the work than the surgery is. I could totally screw this up all on my own and the surgery couldn't stop me.
I told no one except for my mother who had the lap band, my sister who is a nutritionist and tried to talk me out of it (biatch), and eventually my aunt and only because I needed her to pick me up from the hospital and spend a couple days with me. Even the friend who dropped me off at the hospital at 6am thought she was taking me for an upper GI series Then at 5 weeks in, I told one old friend who came to visit for a weekend. I thought he would call me crazy but to my shock he said he was very proud of me. And that's it. Outside of that tiny handful of people, I'm staying in the closet about this and am totally cool with that. I don't feel the need to share this bit of my life with all my friends and acquaintances, and I certainly wouldn't feel bad about not telling coworkers or strangers.
Not comfortable talking about your private medical situations with the world? Then don't. It's not their business.

I am just 2 weeks pre-op and wish I would have done things a little differently. First, I had a few food funerals. Not a good idea, because all this did was increase the fat in my liver. Then I had to follow the pre-op diet, which was supposed to shrink the liver. I followed the diet faithfully, but my liver was still fatty. I was lucky my surgeon continued on with the surgery, but some surgeons will not.
Don't do the food funerals and don't cheat on your pre-op diet. Good Luck with your surgery. The reward is just around the corner!

Congrats! I am 5 days out and had the same problems My doctor gave me a recipe that is WONDERFUL! It gives you the same Protein in 1/2 the amount and makes more time available for getting in your Water.
1-sugar free pudding (in ready container)
    1-scoop of Protein Powder
A little milk (about 1/3 cup)
    Blend well.
It will become a liquid and is 1/2 the amount of a shake with the same amount of Protein. Best part is you can change up pudding flavor (as long as it's sugar free) so you don't get bored with the taste. Hope this helps!

It may depend on how much the doctor wants to shrink your liver. Some people, myself included, have a fatty liver. Shrinking the liver makes the surgery safer with less damage to the liver. During surgery, they have to move it out if the way and it's much easier and safer if it's smaller and healthier.
