This was very helpful, never thought of getting one. I'll have to rethink this.
Thanks for this subject, and thoughts.

I found myself getting frustrated with daily fluctuations as well. I stopped weighing myself so much and now I do it about once every 2 weeks or so. It made a huge difference to my mental health and I was able to stop focusing on food and scales and focus on living life again post surgery.

There are many forms of weight loss surgery and as a result the diet plans will vary quite a bit on this board. Also the surgeons recommendations will vary quite a bit also. But the most important elements for those that have RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So meeting those three elements should be the primary focus.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.

Keep in mind that every surgeon has a different post op plan and hers might include soft foods like cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. And who knows.....toast might be on there too! Or bacon and oreos......like I have seen others post about.
And cottage cheese...I still eat it nearly daily.

How are you eating five days post op? Aren't you on a liquid diet phase day 1-7 then puréed food day 8-14? And that's only if you can get in 60 oz of liquids per including three Protein shakes. Toast? Are you kidding me, that would get logged so fast in your pouch and not go down no matter how much butter you had on it. What post op diet are you on ? Remember you are still healing and had major reconstructive surgery. Sure the meds can make anyone feel great and so does the anesthesia that is still wearing off. Just be careful is all I am saying.

Sounds like playing with fire. Had major surgery and not thinking about changing your habits. You will not succeed long term if you are not sticking with the plan.

I was told no cottage cheese, eggs or Beans until week 3. I would die for cottage cheese. Guess we always want what we can't have...

Kittymom reacted to James Marusek in Dizziness
Dizziness or light-headedness when standing up occurs as a result of abnormal blood pressure regulation. Normally, when people stand, gravity causes blood to pool in the veins of the legs and trunk. This pooling lowers the blood pressure and the amount of blood the heart pumps to the brain. Low blood flow to the brain causes the dizziness and other symptoms.
Dizziness caused by standing up is known as orthostatic hypotension or postural hypotension. It is usually caused by an underlying problem -- such as dehydration. So make sure you are drinking enough fluids.
Since you had surgery 8 days ago another cause may be the prescription medicines that you are taking. I was on 2 types of high blood pressure medicines prior to surgery. I monitored my blood pressure daily and after a couple weeks I took myself off all my meds because my blood pressure returned to normal without the meds. Otherwise the meds could cause my blood pressure to drive towards very low blood pressure readings. Measure your blood pressure and consult with your doctor.

I don't typically have blood pressure issues, so I chalked mine up to dehydration. Mornings was the worst, so I now take a glass of Water to bed, when I get up to tinkle at night I sip a little then go then sip more and back to sleep, it has helped, thanks bunches

You are eating regular foods too soon post-op. Grits are a big NO w/ bypass surgery. Fruits and eggs are not for a few more weeks. If your doctor didn't give you materials outlining what you can eat when, you could cause ulcers in your pouch or cause damage! I bought a book back before the procedure - a guide to eating after weight loss surgery for dummies. It has been very helpful! But my Doctor & dietician gave week by week lists of what could be eaten too. Good luck! A

I didn't think I would need a stool softener but for sure I am taking them to keep things moving, Dr recommend them. Constipation is no fun. Had my surgery 9/26

Generally 5 days but you likely need to be taking stool softeners or Miralax or something. Call your Dr and see what they want you to take.

@ Ronniebob can't believe your back to work already, my Dr won't let me drive for 3 weeks, won't release me to go back to work for 4 weeks.

Hi there the first day has been hell , I didn't expect to be in so much pain and the Nausea was horrible . I feel 100 time better this morning and it seem to help to get up and walk as soon as you have a period of time that you don't feel like throwing up . So I'd thought I'd make sure and tell anyone going into walk walk walk as soon as possible I couldn't until 2 am . But once I could my pain is so much better I'm looking forward to this new life , my first nurse actually had this surgery a yr ago she's lost all her weight and she said I will never regret it .

Well my prep appointment is complete, I'm ready to go. I'm still not nervous, not scared, not excited. Got bad news today. My Dr's practice will be leaving this area, 2 months after my surgery. So I will need to find a Dr in Richmond 1.5 hours away from me. Feeling frustrated over it, I didn't work this hard and long to have surgery to back out now because the hospital is removing his specialty.
