    mmy got a reaction from newyorklady20 in Foul flatulence and stools
    @summerset

    I completely omitted lactose and sugar (including artificial sweeteners), I tried cutting out gluten and vegetables/ legumes that cause gas like cabbage, onions etc. my diet mainly consisted of meats (chicken, red meat, fish), rice (in moderation) and vegetables, fruit is my dessert. For beverages I drink Water or red/green tea. Yes I do treat myself to foods I like like ice creams and cakes and chocolate but it’s only once in a while.. my weight is healthy and stable ..

    I have written about this problem many times but no one seemed to know or have an advise that I haven't tried. With the foul smelling stool I have been complaining of soft-runny stools that are also pale in color. Everytime I go to the doctor and mention this they just reassure me that it's one of the side effects of gastric bypass. However, 3 weeks ago I was given a course of antibiotics (I had bacterial sore throat) and to my surprise, my flatulence was noticeably reduced and was never smelly again, my stools were of a normal consistency and color, and I managed to gain 1 kg (which is a good thing since I lost more weight than required)... this lasted for almost 3 weeks then gradually things started to return back to pre-antibiotic status... honestly, the bariatric team of doctors I'm currently seeing never seem to be bothered and unfortunately they're the only ones available where I live. Does anyone seem to know what could be the case?? My life is ruined by this I try to avoid people all the time as I have no control over my flatulence and smelly stools...

    mmy got a reaction from Frustr8 in Glucose Challenge Test alternative
    I’m currently pregnant and my OBGYN is clueless on how to care for patients who have had Bariatric Surgery.. she wants me to do a glucose challenge test to check for gestational diabetes. I’m supposed to drink 75grams of glucose.. obviously it will cause me dumping syndrome. She didn’t know what dumping syndrome is and asked me to look for an alternative because the HbA1C wouldn’t give her a clear indication of gestational diabetes. Anyone with experience here?

    Thank you all for your reply.
    @Ed_NW this seems interesting.. will definitely order some and give it a try.. thank you

    @James Marusek well no I still get dumping from high fat and high refined sugar.. even lactose free milk causes me diarrhea so I think maybe I’m allergic to milk protein!!! I can only drink plant based milk but those are very low in calories.

    @harmony love
    @GreenTealael
    whey Protein doesn’t go down my system well.. I need to try Pea protein. Also most protein powders sold have a high content of lead (at least that’s what the warning on the packaging says) it’s toxic on everyone but especially toxic to fetus and pregnant women.. I still can’t find anything locally that is approved for pregnancy and I can tolerate. I don’t mind ordering anything online if anything exists

    I’m almost 3 years out of gastric bypass .. I’ve lost a lot of weight but maintained a healthy BMI for most.. I’m currently pregnant and started off with a BMI of 22.. as my pregnancy progresses I’m finding it harder and harder to eat.. I feel constantly hungry but can only eat very very very small amounts of food and worry that my baby will end up with a low birth weight if I don’t get in enough calories. My Vitamin levels are all ok and I’m taking a special prenatal vitamin for bariatric patients.. now I’m thinking of adding high calorie shakes to my diet. Problem is that anything with high fat will cause me diarrhea (like nestle Boost VHC), anything with dairy I can’t consume because I’m lactose intolerant, and anything with high sugar will cause me dumping syndrome.. I was wondering if anyone knows of any high calorie drink that i can tolerate?? Or does anyone have a recipe of a high calorie drink I can make at home that will boost my calorie intake.. appreciate any input

    Congratulations, I too am very happy for you. I seem to recall another poster whose doctor,had her on a bariatric and a prenatal Vitamin, at the same time ,told he4 that way you and your baby will both be healthy. Said your body intrinsically knows which Vitamins go where. 👶&👸

    Pregnancy and lactation were both incredible life-changing experiences that I treasure. I've given birth four times to four healthy children.
    Once you know you're pregnant, it's never too soon for your first prenatal visit. So much takes places during those early first weeks. Your Vitamins sound fine, but this is really something for your obstetrician to confirm. Also, and don't be shy about asking, if s/he is knowledgeable about the special malabsorption issues associated with a bypass. You may need other medication prescribed for you during your pregnancy, so s/he'd need to know, for example, that extended-release medications no longer work for you. Azithromycin, a common antibiotic, is also out post-bypass. To make sure that you, and especially your baby, are properly nourished, be vigilant and be a strong self-advocate. Forgive my patronizing tone, but you know that what you do (or don't do) from now on, can affect that fragile precious life growing inside of you. NO PRESSURE, right?
    I should mention that I don't know the differences between a full gastric bypass and a mini-bypass, so I hesitate to say anymore ... other than GET THEE TO A BABY DOCTOR POSTHASTE!

    mmy got a reaction from Pearldrop in Need to GAIN weight
    I have never thought I would ever struggle to gain weight. I had MGB 2.2 years ago and had a healthy stable weight for so long. Last month I’ve been battling divorse and within 4 weeks I lost 7 kg’s and I’m at a scary weight right now. I ordered a pack of nestle boost very high calorie drink with 530 calories per pack. Thought that might solve the problem! It says it’s lactose and gluten free but it gave me the worst diarrhea ever. Apparently the fat content is very high! Now does anyone know how I can increase my calorie intake and gain weight back! Does anyone know of a high calorie drink that is MGB friendly! I am unable at the moment to just eat more so I need calorie packed drinks

    mmy got a reaction from ready4change88 in Bariatric Surgery Causes egg damage?
    I’ve always heard that bariatric surgey restores fertility and I have resorted to bariatric surgery after years of unexplained infertility.. two years post-op and I’m still struggling to get pregnant either naturally or through IVF. Been to consult many doctors and every doctor had his own theory.. the finally doctor I have consulted suggested that my bariatric surgery might have caused more harm than good and it could have damaged the white part of my eggs (mitochondria). There is not test to check for mitochondria damage but fixing it can be a challenge! I don’t know how true is this statement but what I know is that I’ve struggled getting pregnant even before the surgery.. and wheather before or after the surgery I would always manage to get expanding blastocyst and from what I read, embryos with damaged mitochondria don’t usually live past 3 days in the lab!!

    mmy got a reaction from Super Clever Screen Name in Percentage of removed stomach in Gastric sleeve?!
    As I said there is no documentation about %. I couldn't find anything. 2 doctors said I would benefit from a modified Bariatric surgery with one of them insisting on 55%. The 3rd doctor I spoke to today said that the percentage differs from one patient to another depending on the size of the patients stomach. There is one size for the tube inserted through the mouth but what might account for 80% in one patient might be only 50% in another patient.. I am still waiting for a reply from my surgeon regarding that but I don't see harm in trying to ask here and gather as much information as I can.

    The surgeon I went to is considered to be one of the top in the region. He has done hundreds of surgeries. The patients I talked to were all from the higher BMI group and I couldn't find anyone with a low BMI and similar situation. No one has done a 55% gastric sleeve.. That's why I'm here in this forum now to try and see if anyone has been through a similar surgery or has some information about this .

    I'm sorry to hear about this, it sounds very painful
    I don't have any experience with this, so can't help much.
    Would it be possible to just undo this surgery, let you heal and gain a few pounds back, and revise to a bypass later if you needed it?

    C. Diff. is a possibility, but from personal experience I think you would know if you had it. It is more than just loose, runny stool. It was extremely painful and miserable. Probiotics help, but there is no getting over it or lessening the symptoms unless you are given a very specific antibiotic after giving a stool sample. If they gave you a Z-pak or amoxicillin, it would actually make C. Diff worse.
    For gastric bypass the foul gas and BM is normal. As I understand it, it is because of the partial or incomplete digestion of food that causes it. I'm sure it seems bad now, but it get better over time.

    I'm 5 weeks shy of my 1 year anniversary. I have dropped a lot of weight at the beginning and started to really worry. However, I haven't lost a single pound for the last 3 months. Does this mean that my weight is stabilizing now? I keep hearing that people keep losing for almost 18 months. I'm happy where I've reached though it really scared me at some point and will be even happier to gain few kg's.. when did your weight started to stabilize and when did you gain back some weight if you ever did?
    P.s I've had MGB and not RNY.

Being able to wear nice clothes and still look good in them... I just hope I can maintain my weight and not lose more than few kilos

    Hi . I just had a look at FODMAP diet and oh dear there is nothing left to eat now .. I'll try to follow it for few days though to see if symptoms ease but for sure I can not follow this diet forever.. there must be another solution for IBS assuming the symptoms I have are truly IBS!! I wish I could see my doctor sooner but I don't think there is a way unless I go through Emergency and my condition is not considered to be an emergency to them!!
