@vsgann2014... The kind of "smarts" it takes to educate yourself about surgery isn't IQ related.... I have some very smart friends who make some real dumb choices regarding medical care because the fail to understand how serious it can be or they put too must trust in anyone with MDafter their name... All kinds of smarts, we're all good at something....

The surgery is about improving your quality of life... If having a social beer is your thing, when the time is right why not see if your sleeve can tolerate it... We all want to follow the rules but we need to adapt them to our lifestyle... If we feel deprived of everything we not going to have life long success.

@caridickerson hair loss seems to be the norm after surgery, not something I'm looking forward to... You might want to considered treating the hair you have better... Use sulfate free shampoos, get a keratin treatment and a good deep conditioner... Maybe add highlights or change your hair to a darker color... Speak with your stylist, if you don't have one now is probably an excellent time to get one.

I feel your saying your looking for a quick fix... I can relate to much of your story, I've always struggled with the weight and for the most part it's been a tug of war, I win, the weight wins keep repeating... It feels like an endless cycle, since I hit the 40's the weight has been winning, I'm now at the heaviest I've ever been... Several things happened that made me decide surgery was for me, number one reason was as the weight goes up, I feel my mobility is going down... This is a lifestyle change, not a magic wand.

None of this secret stuff would be needed if people knew their place... There are things that should just not be commented on other than good for you or hope all goes well with maybe let me know if you need something thrown in... It's so frustrating that everyone feels they know so much!!!

Thanks for bringing attention to this problem... I guess I've been on here about six weeks... The sarcastic and rude comments I find are attention seeking on behalf of those who write them. Those kind of comments shut down the conversation of the thread and defeat the information sharing that could unfold on a threat. This is a forum for adults, it's simple to say we agree to disagree and let it be... Odd too how once they create drama, they go off and create threads about more positive topics... I feel on this forum we need to show extra sensitivity as the surgical process and the changes it brings has people a somewhat stressed to begin with...

Agreed... My bmi is 40.4 with no health issues, these are my guidelines... I do appreciate your taking time out to drive home the importance of listening to the surgeon, it's very supportive of you

@vsgann2014... I don't have a pre op liquid diet... Just liquid diet 24 hours before... My surgeon is at a bariatric center of excellence so I can only assume he's work from current research... Irregardless whose surgeon says what I think all the matter is we all reach our desired goal

This thread started out as a person expressing their opinion, it turned into exactly what he was expressing his opinion about... Masking plain old nasty comment with tough love doesn't make them any less nasty... As others have said if you can't offer advice or support than don't participate in that thread... Maybe create a thread to exchange nasty snippy comments amongst one another...

I heard the weight at your consultation with the surgeon is the start... Who knows, this is a money making racket for doctors... Each time they weight you they charge your insurance.

Read2016 got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Do you have an appalling experience of dealing with a weight-biased healthcare professional?
I think some bias we would be aware as the doctor does nothing to hide it... Other times the doctor maybe thinking it but not state it explicitly.. Several years back I was diagnosed with kidney stones that were not causing symptoms they were an incidental finding... Upon informing me of this my pcp gave my a lecture about how the stones were caused by my poor eating habits... Wasn't she surprised when the 24 hours urine test showed I had hypercalcemia of the kidney, nothing to do with eating habits... I went to see an allergist after having am allergy attack and all he could do was discuss my being obesity..
No doubt about it if your obese your getting bias treatment.

Being skinny isn't solving all anyone's problems... No one walks through life problem free... Going from obese to skinny is more like trading problems... You still going to have to cope with life... The good news is you will be doing it in a more healthy more Moblie body...
