TODAY IS MY SURGIVERSARY!!! 97lbs lost!well wow what can I say? It's been quite a journey! The one thing I think i was unprepared for was the emotional/mental piece. It's not natural to see yourself in a state (at a weight/size) you've never been and then know how to deal with people's new reaction to you. I've been smaller before but never this small and it's a whole new world! Sleevers... What was it like? Well from surgery to liquid diets to pretty much seven months of working out five days a week. Low carb low sugar high fat high Protein diet to now. It wasn't easy. You can't just have surgery and sit around expecting to lose weight. You gotta work!! I reached "goal" bout seven months out. But you'll find your goal quickly changes as you realize you can do more. So work your ass off and don't give up! What's next? Toning this old body lol. Still work to be done.
    Starting weight 232
    Goal 180, 160, 145
    Current weight 135
    Sizes 20 to 5

I'm 9 days post op today. 20 pounds down in all (which is including my pre op diet). But I'm having I really hard time keeping my Protein down. I'm getting my 64 oz of fluids in without a problem but the protein makes me sick. I MAY get in 30 grams a day. I've tried Matrix, premiere protein and a few others. Is any one else having this problem? I am worried to death over not getting enough in.
    Thanks!!

I am 6 years post sleeve and couldn't be happier with my results. I started with a BMI of 50, lost 160 pounds and maintain with a BMI around 22-23. I saw hundreds of WLS patients Come and go through my support group. These included band, sleeve, RNY and DS patients. The one common thread among the success stories was the individual's commitment to their new lifestyle. It is the food choices we make that determine success or failure, not necessarily the type of surgery. I saw just as many failed bypasses as sleeves. The "failures" were the ones that went back to eating the way they did before surgery. No surgery can overcome bad eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. The person you mentioned who regained 40 pounds would have probably done so with bypass as well.
For me, personal therapy was the key to my success. Without the help of my therapist to change my thought patterns and discover new ways to deal with stress and sadness and anger and every other emotion out there, I probably would have failed my VSG, just like I failed every other diet in my life. These mental changes have been far more important to my ability to maintain my loss than my sleeve itself.
Not everyone needs therapy, some are able to conquer their demons alone, but those people are rare. I would suggest taking an honest critical look at why you failed with the band. That will give you a starting point to know what you need to do different moving forward. One of the surgeons in the bariatric group I was with absolutely would not perform any revision surgery unless his patients first underwent extensive therapy with a psychiatrist. Kind of like a 6 month mental preop diet. I guess he didn't want to waste his time with someone who will waste their surgery a second time around. A lot of his patients were pissed about it and some even went to other surgeons, but in the end, the stats of his patients were impressive.
I will leave it up to the revision patients to tell you the specific physical differences between surgeries because I have no personal experience with that. Good luck with your decision.

I am down 50 pounds!! I still don't believe it! I look in the mirror and still see the "Fat" girl. I look at pictures and say "that's not me".
I do feel much healthier. Still have about 50 pounds to go. But I'll let my body determine that.
Dr says I'm right on track and doing great! I continue to focus on my Protein and Water.
I am so happy I decided to have the Gastric Sleeve surgery. No regrets. Best decision ever.

Yeah the Water intake is so hard.... I can on good day get 6 cups of water... Protein has been 50-60, I need to get those Protein shakes back in my life with syntrex nectar& lactose free milk instant 31 grams ... those shakes were my "get out of jail card" for meeting Protein goals 75-80 grams... and Protein Bars are not safe either... high carbs, high fats and made with whey concentrate not whey isolate...
Before vsg I was constantly thinking of food....now I don't seem to think of it that much but I need to be able to eat healthy... go from one extreme to another...

I am two months post op. I have yet to feel hungry. When is the last time you said "oh I forgot to eat"? When I first started on real food at about 3-4 weeks I would get full off 1-2 tablespoons. Insanity!!!!!!
These changes are like nothing we've ever experienced. Serve only what you should eat and no more.

Hey, don't feel bad. At least you recognized your downfall and you're able to put yourself back on track. I'm 4 months post op. The past, I'd say, 2 weeks I've slipped into a few old bad habits myself. I was snacking on trail mix that has sesame sticks and rice crackers in it. It's good but I'm sure they have lots of carbs. I also have had a few chocolate chip Cookies which is definitely not in the plan. I've lost only one pound each week which upsets me but its my own fault. This week I'm getting it back together again. I'm going to incorporate more fruits and eat Soup. They tend to work better and they work better with my sleeve. I never drink enough Water and that bothers me. I really try but the desire for it is just not there. I like the drink mix ins but they have aspartame which isn't good to consume. I do get my Protein in really good due to Premier Protein. I find it to be the better one for me. I wish you the best and you can do this. Lets stay on course!!! A dress I was able to find in their clearance section in a size 12! I was so excited!! Shopping has been so awkward actually looking in the "standard size" sections and grabbing a size too big instead of too small. It's taking my brain some time to adjust to look for a large or even a medium sometimes instead of 2XL.
