    Dumping syndrome for Sleevers?

It's unlikely, but it can happen.

Genepro - too good to be true?

I also assume that if bariatric patients have been using it and all of their labs come back and satisfy their doctors, then it's also generally okay and doing what it claims.

    Confessions of overeating...

That's our recommendation as well. Except the fluid part - if I count it as protein, I can't count it towards my fluids. Interestingly enough, I've now hit the point where my portions are just enough. I'm not fighting to finish 2 oz (by volume, not weight) like I was, but it satisfies me.

Genepro - too good to be true?

My nutritionist allows it, and honestly - that's enough for me. It helps me get my Protein in especially since the shakes are now making me feel sick.

Fluids is NOT going down well.

As everyone else said - it will get better. Don't strive for the full 64 ounces every day - just make your goal to get more in than the day before until you get there. When you get into your second week, you should be able to average between 48 and 64 ounces each day no problem.

    Crackers

I agree! I was a Cheezit fool! You know how they put on the back of the boxes "Get your own Box".....I think they wrote that for me! haha. Sadly, I will never be able to have Cheezits ever again.....but that's my own rule for me. Oh man, those Zesty Ranch Cheesit cracker crisp things? Those are like crack to me, and I should never ever eat them again - because I surely can't eat just one!

    Crackers

So does mine! But they're very clear on amounts, and that you can only have 1-2 tbsp if and only if you've eaten your entire Protein portion first. And, as I type this, I'm eating some chicken on crackers. Yep! I'm allowed - and the protein in my chicken is more than double the carbs in these itty bitty crackers, so I have no issue with it. The only cracker I was expressly forbidden was Ritz, because they're so buttery and greasy - but they prefer Saltines if we're going to eat them at this point.

    Plateau

Are you taking a PPI? Acid really can feel like hunger. I scoffed at folks who said that, but after talking to my surgeon I started taking a Tums whenever I started feeling those "hunger pains" - and it really did help.
  10. Hallelujah! I just got cleared to switch to regular vitamins instead of chewables!

    Confessions of overeating...

Even if I liked sushi (which I don't), we aren't allowed it during the first 3 months on our plan. Seafood is hard for me - I hated it and never ate it growing up, so finding things I like now is a challenge. Though I can do crab cakes and mahi mahi (and tilapia if it's seasoned well). They're just never going to be favorites.

    Period during surgery?

I didn't manage the timing of my Nuvaring well, so I've started bleeding the day before surgery. It's light, but it can sometimes go light to heavy overnight. How will this effect my surgery tomorrow, does anyone know? I've already figured out I can't wear a tampon during surgery, but this is no big deal, right?

    Period during surgery?

They'll give you a pad, and make you toss yours. You even have to wear their special underwear... Which were surprisingly comfortable.

    Portion sizes help please

Unless you're at a point in your plan where it is specified 2oz by volume not weight (which is where I am).

    Portion sizes help please

My Fitness Pal will also let you enter recipes and set serving size. When I make something, I determine how many servings it is by how many quarter cups I can fill.
  16. Went swimming at my mom's today - so tired after spending the afternoon in the sun! It was a great day!

How'd it feel to be in the water? Sometimes I think I should have been born with gills because I feel so "at home" in the water. Wait! Does that make me a "sea witch"??. Hmmm--something new to ponder... It sounded like you had a wonderful day. I'm think'n you have plenty more com'n your way, my friend. :)

It was so lovely. I fell asleep for awhile on a float! I was a bit concerned about my incisions because not all of the scabs have fallen off, but the doc said 3 weeks and it's been almost 4. Incisions are fine. :) I'm not quite at home in the water as it sounds like you are, but I certainly don't mind spending afternoons floating around, listening to music, and reading a good book!

    Calorie goal?

I averaged between 200-300 my first two weeks post-op. I was shooting for 400, but couldn't reach it since most of what I was allowed had no calories. Once I moved to soft foods at 2 weeks, I was given a goal of 600-800 calories, but the Protein number is still the most important.
  18. becomingmandikaye

When do you get on the scale again?

I'm guessing it varies by practice. The last time I was weighed before surgery was at my pre-op appointment. Prior to that, I was only weighed at my consultation, which is the weight they used in the paperwork. After surgery, I was weighed by the bed in the hospital!

aaaawwww jeeeezzzz. :) Sometimes encouragement is easy--like with you. Sometimes--with some folks it's not so easy, but support is always available. One just has to "wanna". :)

Well, I haven't complained about my stall yet. ;)

    3. Valentina

      Valentina

I hate that "embrace the stall" stuff. I always feel like hitting the member that tells me that over the head with my scales! :) Is there anything more frustrating than a stall? Don't think so. I TRY to think of it as my body trying to catch up with my nutrition. It always does, but jeez----like the momma tomato whose little one was lagging?? She whacked him over the head and say, "There! Now you ketchup"! :) I know--really bad. :):)

PA Highmark BCBS PPO Insurance- I need help!

Honestly, the best thing to do is call them and talk to them. But be aware that the reps can be wrong (mine were) and working with outdated information. Have the list of what you believe are the requirements and your source, and then just ask them.
  22. It could be a couple of different things. I burped A LOT the first few days after surgery. There was gas in me that needed to come out, and that's how it chose to come. Now that I'm a few weeks out and eating real food, I still burp sometimes. It's usually an indicator that I'm eating too fast or too much. Sometimes it's a weird hiccup instead. I've gotten them far less since I slowed down my eating drastically. Your new stomach is adjusting, and your body is adjusting to it. Gurgles, burps, and hiccups are all going to be normal.
  23. becomingmandikaye

    Am I the only one

It is physically impossible not to lose weight after having this surgery. You simply can't eat enough to sustain your weight, so it will come off. Be patient, follow your plan. Your body has been through significant trauma and on top of that has gone into shock because it thinks it's being starved. Give your body time to heal and catch up.

    Drinking slow

My plan allows for fruit juices diluted 50% with water - though they did limit us to only 6 oz of fluid that way.
  25. I'm not sure I can stand another day taking these chewable Flintstones vitamins...

    1. Renkoss

      Renkoss

You don't have to use a bariatric specific vitamin. I use an Adult Multi-Vitamin from Puritan's Pride that are chewable and the taste is not horrible (strawberry/banana). The vitamin has everything required after bariatric surgery, but is just an Adult Multi. I just had blood work done and all my levels are fine.

You can't take iron and zinc together though, they work against each other. so a multivitamin with both isn't a good formula. zinc inhibits the absorption of iron. you have to take them at least 2 hours apart. I take my iron as a totally different supplement at the end of the day. Your doctor didn't give you a schedule to take your vitamins and explain why you can't take certain vitamins together? Like you can't take calcium with iron either.

    3. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

My doctor's directions specifically told me to find a multi-vitamin that had certain levels of folic acid, iron, and zinc in it. And that I couldn't take iron and calcium together.
