    Smoking

My Dr said I had to not smoke for 2 weeks before surgery, so I basically told myself I could do anything for 2 weeks. Sometime in that process I realized I didn't want to have to go through quitting again and decided to stick with it. I truly hated not smoking for the better half of 3 months but I'm glad I stuck with it. I used toothpicks to get past the hard times in the car. You'll be better for it, but just remember just because quitting feels bad, it doesn't mean it is bad Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Questions about recovery time?

Yes you will be totally fine. That's plenty of time to heal. I was back to work in 7 days. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Would you do it again?

I would def do it again. If throwing up is your biggest worry, then you'll be fine. I haven't thrown up. Surgery makes you nauseated and dry heave but nothing more happened to me. Also, 2 months is plenty of time. I took 7 days. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  4. This is when you realize that all those people who said you took the "easy way out" were a bunch of liars! Haha. You will be fine. It's like any other surgery, there's a recovery time so give yourself the space to recover. Almost everyone questions their decision when they're going through the first few weeks. It will get so much better.. your life I mean, will improve greatly and the surgery itself will be a distant memory. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Light headed / dizzy

It happened to me and my wif all the time for the first 1 to 2 months. We're almost 5 months out now and it rarely happens.. I think it's the low calories and your body adjusting. Check with your Dr of course. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

Anyone kept their procedure a secret?

I told my family and close friends, but no one at work. It does sometimes feel bad when people ask how I'm losing weight so fast and I have to make it seem like I'm a super hero or something lol.. but I def don't regret not telling them. Don't feel like you have to tell anyone, but at least a friend or someone in your family would probably be good so you don't feel alone! Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Bowel movements

Yeah it's totally normal.. I'm 5 mos out and I usually go once a week. I take Fiber Gummies too. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're feeling really uncomfortable, then maybe talk to your doctor about a laxative Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

Thank you! My plan is to keep fighting to get back to where I was Healthwise pre op in the first instance. Obviously now, I will have to manage the C Diff issue and it's complications. It is a tough infection to cure. The percentages on reoccurrence are quite worrying. Once all that is under control. I need to concentrate on slowing down the weightloss. I am still losing between 5 and 7 lbs a week and only getting in between 300 and 400 calories a day. I need to get my Vitamins, minerals, Iron and nutrient levels sorted out. Once all that is completed, and this could take months to achieve, I then need to get back to my pre op routine. Seeing family, friends, neighbours, attending church etc. It is heartbreaking to be isolated from your family due to illness. Now I have to worry about who I infect with C Diff. On visits, I need to be conscious about using people's loos etc. Beyond that, I plan to develop a good relationship with a GP that has enough knowledge to help me get back to health and to get away from the bariatric system. I may have to pay privately for this care. As I keep saying, I don't live in regret. I live in a fight for my life. I believe that I have had C Diff for nearly eight weeks now and the inflammation, blood and mucous presenting, makes me fear that this situation may become even more serious due to the neglect of the bariatric team in post op care. My GP believes the bariatric team should be dealing with me and the bariatric team wants the GP to do it. Meanwhile, I am in trouble. I live my life deep in my Faith. And because I do, I am told that there is a plan for my life. That plan appears to be perseverance with grace. Ultimately, I plan to consult an NHS healthcare advocate. I am going to ask that my case be looked over to ensure that I get better care and other people don't have to go through all of this. If your query concerns my dislike of my sleeve, I accepted the ultimate responsibility for my mistake weeks ago. We all make mistakes. I made the decision in error. There is no point in dwelling on this as it is irreversible. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App At 2 or 3 mos out, I was eating the same amount of calories and losing the same amount. I didn't have complications. I'm just saying that you're not any different in that area. My calorie rec was between 300 and 500 calories per day. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

The reason people comment is complex. Some just want an argument. Some dislike my refusal to be driven away. Some simply find it confusing that I am willing to say clearly that this surgery is not for everyone. Your post is a common one. I don't need "help" to "get through" something that is impossible to change. The stomach is gone. I could have lost weight myself. This surgery proved it. The reason I have lost the majority of my excess weight is because I am starving. I am only able to ingest 300 to 400 cals most days and due to constant diarrhea, lose as much liquid as I take in. Some of us stuck to our pre op 800 cal diet because we had to to get what we wanted, surgery. What we don't like to admit is that some of us could have tried harder without altering our body permanently. And some of us just won't like the changes we are forced to make post op. I am brave enough to say that regardless of how unpopular this topic is. Again, I ask, how would you want me to feel? My actual opinion doesn't suit you, so what feeling do you want me to have? I could lie to the world here and say, I love my sleeve, this is great! I eat loads of Protein, don't mind the constant runs, food revulsion, etc But then someone like me, who was looking for advice, might just think we all love our sleeves. Thank you for highlighting this problem with your contribution! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My issue isn't with you. It's with everyone else who is wasting their time trying to help you. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

I don't know why everyone is wasting their time with this. Gina obviously just wants to be very clear that this was a mistake. She doesn't want to believe that one day, she could feel different. Therefore, you're all wasting your words. If someone can't even believe that there is a tiny possibility that they don't know how they're going to feel in a few months or a year, there's literally no hope of helping her through this. I think the only thing that will help is to say, Gina, this was absolutely a poor choice for you and we understand you regret it the end. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

  14. I am not super educated on long term. I was sleeved I march.. however, I will say, I stay between 400 and 600 calories per day and I have way more energy than I ever did before.. I felt dizzy a lot when I first had the sleeve, but not anymore. I can't tell you why, but I def don't have any of those sick feelings I would have in the past when I'd try and really restrict calories. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Why is onederland so evasive?!

Thanks! I'm over 4 months out, went from 279 surgery day and I'm at 204... for 10 days! Thanks for reminding me that it's possible and takes time. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

  17. that is awesome!!!Waiting to crack 190. I have been close but having a small stall. Got a new puppy (8 months old)and she is getting me out and walking every day - hoping that helps counteract the 3 grad school classes I am taking. I feel tied to a book or the computer. I know the exercise sure does help settle her down so I can do school work. Waiting to see if it helps me crack this mini-stall. I am 4 lbs from my halfway point.... Yay!! How much have you lost? Congrats! Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  18. Sometimes when I see someone I haven't seen in a while, they ask"did you get a haircut or something?" OR they'll say "nice haircut!". There is no new haircut lol. They just can't figure out what's different I think Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  19. So I have started lying about how much I've lost to ppl at work bc they don't know about the surgery. Now I have to keep up with my weight lie.. see how one really does create another lie!! Lol Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  20. When I tell people my goal weight or how much more I want to lose they act shocked and tell me that it's too much to lose. It's so annoying. If it's too much, either it won't happen or I'll gain some back if I look sickly. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol Addiction

If you are an American, HIPAA law prevents your employer or future employer from being able to access your medical record. No medical practice would go giving out that information unless they want to get sued. It is against the law. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App Ummm, Horse S**t. Sorry, HIPPA was wiped out in 2009 when the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was passed. One of the provisions was an automation of doctor and hospital records via federal grants to state hospital associations. The public reason was "well it will make it easier for people's medical records to be shared with other medical providers in case of emergency." And that is a dang lie. If you want more information than you ever want on this, I am very sure I can prove that assertion. For the purposes of this discussion, if you have serious drug/alcohol or psychiatric problems and you think the government, law enforcement or big pharma doesn't know it, you are wrong if you have third party coverage. What this means is even though you think your attempts to get help won't or can't be used to keep you from purchasing a firearm in the future, hurt your job prospects, create difficulty getting insurance and professional licening et. al. YOU ARE FLAT OUT WRONG. That patient privacy/HIPPA form that you sign is not worth the paper it is printed on. I self pay and have to work very hard to keep my information out of that system. NOTE: you might ask, why do I care? I really don't give a rip about being one more data point in a government data base, but my ex-wife is a government employee (and bi-polar) and she has access to the whole dang database. She illegally tracks everything I do on the system and let's my kids know everything about my medical history, with the hope of embarrassing me. I don't want her, or anyone else to know. So I work very hard to keep it private. I switched to a non-ObamaCare insurance plan. My doctor is not on the state electronic record system. Most of my pharmaceuticals are purchased from other countries because its cheaper, and no one has a record. So the assertion that it's ok to get help with drug and alcohol problems because "the government will protect your privacy" is VERY, DANGEROUSLY wrong. Sorry. That's a fact and I will gladly defend my position to anyone who wants more info. But this isn't a political site,so I don't want to get too far afield on this, so please if you disagree or want more info please PM. You need help. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

All this time, you've been risking your job (and any chance of a better future job) by drinking before and during work.. but you're worried getting help for this problem will cause you employment problems?
