Hey can I ask how much you guys paid for your surgery? My surgeon was 5k and I got back 800 in Medicare & insurance. My anesthetist was $1400 and I got back $900 of that. I paid a $450 excess for hospital. Was completely worth it all IMO Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think it depends on what you eat? Yoghurt and liquid foods eg soup you'd be able to have more. I had a piece of grilled cheese & tomato on toast today & yesterday & day before. 1st day could eat the whole thing, yesterday I ate 3/4 & felt full today I ate 3/4 and threw up afterwards. Shell it's the only thing that goes down easy for me lol! It's sensational! Remember though I'm a few weeks ahead of you, and I only was allowed to start on solids last Wednesday. There's lots of soft food I can't tolerate even! But for breakfast this week I've been having a piece of toast high Fiber low gi, a couple of slices of tomato, pepper, a couple of slices of onion & a piece of low fat cheese on top, grilled. It's nice but it would be nicer if I could have full fat Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. LondonHawk sometimes I can tolerate more then half a cup and then other times I can barely stomach 1/4 of a cup. It's still a bit hit & miss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

They are so yum aren't they! I have been having them with a little bit of Light Philadelphia Cream cheese which I'm allowed, or some tomato salsa or even just plain. They have always been a fave of mine I'm so glad they are still ok to be eaten! I went groc shopping yesterday, I always get full fat sliced cheese as it tastes better IMO & at the start I tried to process it by saying to myself it's ok to still have, as I'm not eating much anymore. But then I had to stop myself and say to myself why did I put myself through all that surgery? I need to make smarter choices. So I grabbed the low fat cheese. I think there's going to be a lot of that going on, but it's all part of the journey. I've lost 25 kg since start of December now. So I'm really proud of what I've achieved. Plenty more to go though! Lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I am almost 5 weeks post op and I can tolerate about half a cup of food, and I'm starting to eat about 4-5 times a day. Need to focus on drinking enough though Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. We all have good and bad days, but just need to remember every day we are one step closer to our goal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and not feeling so down about it all now. Starting to eat solids again yay! The reality is that being obese ages us and we can die from so many obese related things, that we are only going to help ourselves by having this surgery. Isn't it true you can survive in the outback with no food for however many days, maybe even weeks, as long as you have Water. If the surgery was that risky it would be banned. I have MS, and my MS meds were pulled because 2 people died from it, so you can guess they must be pretty strict. Look at the positives, I went through my underwear drawer today and threw out all my old underwear that's too big now! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Shell it must be so hard being back at work already. I'm lucky I'm not back till June, so I have the luxury of being home & learning what I can and can't eat. I am remembering to eat as I really don't want to lose the muscles I have, so I am always planning my day around my meals at the moment, plus I know when I go back to work I won't have time to find out if a food is agreeing with me or not. The one food I amLOVING & tolerating quite well is. Sakata rice crackers. I'm allowed 10 for morning tea - delicious! I had some after tea last night, sat better in my stomach then actual dinner did lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My biggest incision is above my belly button and none of them hurt now. I had glue on mine so they didn't leak either but as the glue was coming off and catching on my clothes.... Ouch! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Can I give a suggestion to Shell and Kiwijet? Have you taken a photo of yourself in just your underwear? Not a selfie, need to get someone to take it. But take it front view, side view and back view. Also take your measurements. My good friend did mine for me the week after surgery, so I'll be able to compare measurements which will help when I haven't had weight loss. We are all doing amazing, and just remember our poor bodies are going through a massive adjustment at the moment so we need to be kind to ourselves Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hey Shell chin up hun. I didn't have to have Protein powder, said to try source protein from my food rather then a powder. Which I'm happy about because that stuff is expensive! I've been having loo issues every morning. I had changed to lactose free milk, but yesterday I just used diced apricots in juice with my special k and I had no tummy rumbles! Yippee!! First time since surgery! I'm struggling to drink more then 400-500ml a day too. I'm exhausted as a result of that. So I'm back on the hydrolytes as of this week which should help. Hey guys My surgeon said our weight loss should be 1-2kg a week, so 7kg is good! This week I'm finally getting back to enjoying the taste of Water, I lived off cordial the first few weeks just so I could get fluids in me! I started solids yesterday - yeahhhhhh! I had a glorious rissole for tea, I've been living off chicken all week so I needed a break lol. Anyway that's all I could eat then I was full lol. But I was a little bit hungry at 8pm so I had 2 clix biscuits with a little piece of cheese and it was the best! Lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Chin up kiwijet, 12kg down is still a great achievement! I've been away for my best friends birthday for a week almost, and up till yesterday was having only 2 meals, need to get back into routine esp drinking fluids. I'm exhausted from doing so much! Hope everyone is well Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi Shell yes I was under strict instruction to not have poached eggs or scrambled eggs till this week (week 4 mushy foods) and to still be careful as eggs are very chewy. I had a poached egg tied, smashed it up and chewed a lot and tolerated it but the next day didn't smash it up as much and threw it up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just had some special K Cereal and for the first time I stopped before i was full and no pain! I've been getting bad reflux but surgeon on tues told me to take my nexium half hour before food, and I've just started doing that so maybe that helped too? Either way winner winner Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. The reasons I didn't want to tell anyone was really, it's none of their business, I didn't want judgment from people (I got it from my mum lol even though her heart was in the right place) and I also didn't want the pressure from everyone and this expectation. The few that do know, consistently ask how much I've lost, and I know they are pleased for me, but I couldn't handle everyone asking me that. Thankfully only 10 people including my parents know. 24. I've only told a very select group, not even my brother knows, and neither does my best friend as even though I love her dearly I know she would tell someone. Helps that she lives 3 hours away from me. I had started losing weight in December and people at work were noticing before I had my surgery (3weeks post op now) and I was truthful and said I was being careful with what I ate and trying to eat less, so that story can still continue. I just told people I was having surgery, a few tries to pry and ask "is everything ok?" Hoping I'd spill the Beans, but I'd just smile and say yes it will be thanks. That closed the door on any further conversation about it. My surgeon found a hernia and repaired it whilst I was under, so I will be able to use that as my story if I really am pressed to. And we have a big family wedding coming up at end of April, I've opted for the vegetarian option, and when I don't eat a lot of it I'll just say I'm not feeling 100% I have a bit of a funny tummy and hope for the best! Shell I've read multiple articles and even my surgeon has said some people end up putting all their weight back on, and even more! Because they don't change their old eating habits, they still eat too much for their stomach etc. I refuse to be one of those people. I feel your pain about the stomach, might be best to avoid fish for awhile your clearly not ready for it? And how do you purée fish anyway? Lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
