    Hi everyone,
My name is Rossella and I am looking for someone that is going to the process of having their surgery around May 12th so that we can support each other. I live in Arlington, VA but location is irrelevant, moral support can be from everywhere. I also just started my pre-op diet yesterday april 28th.
I am excited and scared at the same time...

@@LadyClair I also had a headache for like 36 hours straight at first.
Night of day 4 liquid diet - had a rough evening with sudden onset nausea. Drank a Protein shake, ate a couple Tums, and then went to bed early. Seems to have helped.

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to this app and it's my first post.
I started this journey in January 2016 and finished my last requirement on Thursday. My surgeons office called me on Friday with a surgery date of May 9th and start pre-op diet on April 25th.
I was set on having the sleeve, but my surgeon explained to me that due to my severe acid reflux (GERD), he doesn't recommend it. He suggested the RNY. I've researched it and decided to have the RNY.
I'm super excited to start this journey, on becoming healthier!
Anyone else having the surgery on or around this date?

Hi Everyone! Haven't had a chance to get on here as I've been crazy busy at work. I made it through Day 2 of liquid diet and so far so good. Had a headache for a little while but gone now. Not really hungry yet as I thought I would be. It's great to have friends on here going through this at the same time. @@GermanShepherdMama @@eoconnell24 @@alyharwell @@j16

YAY! So, I have had to annoy my surgeon's office since Feb 8th to submit my file to insurance. Seriously. My surgeon was just named the Chief of Surgery at the hospital, so his workload has doubled. It took him 6 weeks to approve my surgery, then it took another 3 weeks for the office to submit it to insurance. They only have one person who submits to insurance and works on getting approvals. She was on vacation, so it sat in the office. But at least we're moving in the right direction
I was already told I'm on the schedule for June 15th, if insurance approved it on time. Yes, the waiting is awful but I'm using the time to mentally prepare for this!

I just started my week of full liquids. I am so happy with my decision to do this surgery, even with only 50% family support. I've healed well, walked as much as possible, and am in no pain unless I push my stomach muscles too hard (sitting/ laying to standing without using my arms to help me). I can officially say I'm sick of the liquid diet. Ha ha almost three weeks of just liquids really gets to you. I'm happy I get to start working on things like Protein shakes and cream of wheat! I had my 1 week surgeon check up this morning, he says I'm healing wonderfully and I'm ahead of schedule on my weight loss (23# in 16 days) I feel fantastic! I highly recommend the Isopure drinks! 40g Protein and they're so delicious! They're sweet but end with a little tartness as to not overpower your taste buds. The melon one reminds me of a liquid jolly rancher.

I have struggled with my weight my entie life! My birth family was a red hot mess. Father was a Vietnam War Vet and as a result became an alcholic, a very violent one at that. He beat us and was emotionally and verbally abusive. Quite the monster, but that's what war does to people! My mother was mentally ill and very young. She had 12 kids all less than 10 months apart. Unable to cope with all the abuse and all those kids with no help, she abandonded us after my father took off. I was in foster care most of my early years. The sexual abuse began then. Fortunately I was adopted at age 8. That's when the food addiction began. Fearful that I would be moved again I ate any and everything in sight thinking I may be back in a home where food was scarce. But the family that adopted me was pretty great. They were so patient with me. My files had been sealed so they really had no idea what I had endured. Due to the sexual abuse I donned the "fat suit". It was my protective mechanism to keep any and everyone away from me. At that point I was very athletic and participated in MANY sports. I wasn't really that heavy. My adopted family are all very small framed skinny folks. I'm talking size 0's with no eating issues whatsoever. I on the other hand am 5'8" with very large bones. Never been a size 0! So I was dubbed the "big" one, which is code for the fat kid! My adopted dad, who as a doctor, constantly harped about my weight. He called me gross and would take food out of my hand. My adopted mom always made me wear beige clothing and I wasn't allowed Levis jeans because "big girls can't wear those!" I know they didn't mean to be humilating and demeaning. They had never dealt with a weight issue in their family. They thought it would get the desired results. It did not. I look back and I was not even heavy just had a solid, muscular build. So I entered into the neverending food cycle. Eating when I was depressed. Being depressed because I was fat. So what did I do? Ate more to comfort myself. It was maddening. I've been on every diet known to man. Lose but gain double back and feel more like a failure everytime it happened. I always thought bariatric surgery was the easy way out. Little did I know just how wrong I was! After being diagnosed with diabetes I decided enough was enough and began to research the surgery. I made an appointment with my pcp and she thought I was an ideal candidate. My bmi wasn't high enough so I honestly didn't think I would get BCBS approval. But praise God I did get approved! My surgery was April 20th. I chose the RNY bypass because I wanted to be sure the diabetes and GERD would be resolved! This has by far been one of the most challenging and difficult things I have ever done! The assessments, classes and diagnostic testing has been grueling. I have had to take a long hard look at myself and there were lots of things I didn't like. But it's been such a freeing journey. I have had counseling over the years and I have allowed the Lord to work out many things and bring healing. Now it's time to free myself from the fat suit that my abusers have held me captive in all my life. I have allowed them to steal enough of my life and now it's time to bury them forever. I have stirred up a lot of emotions and unresolved issues during this process. I am working on those and I know the Lord will continue to lead me on this journey toward complete and total healing! I am ready to live free and unhindered! I am ready for my body to reflect the freedom my spirit is experiencing! This is not the end of my journey but it is the close of a chapter. It's also the beginning of a beautiful new one. I am hopeful and so, so grateful to the Lord and everyone who has been a part of my healing. God has been so very good to me! I am blessed beyond anything I ever thought possible and more than I could ever deserve. But that's the beauty of grace and mercy, isn't it? And that's the preciousness of my God!

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I wanted to share with you all my gastric bypass journey thus far. I've pretty much been overweight since my two pregnancies. And it wasn't until I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia that the weight really started to pour on and life became a constant battle. I was on 5 different medications, which really didn't help with the weight gain. After about 3 years of medication increases, I decided enough was enough! I began researching Gastric Bypass on the internet. I had the support of my family and friends and my rheumatologist. I sought out a doctor in Montreal and this is where my journey began. I'm 5'1" and weighed 245 lbs. It was the first time I was told I was considered morbidly obese. I cried right there and then. Nobody wants to hear those words. I said "OK" let's get me healthy again...for my children but most importantly, myself. My surgery was booked on June 25th, 2015. That is the day that is tattooed on my wrist...the day my life changed...for the better. I did have post-op complications which turned out to be apparently life threatening. The doctor had accidentally put one stitch too many which closed off the intestine. What happens is that I couldn't keep anything down and was vomiting profusely... But the worst part was that all the (excuse the wording) shit that was supposed to be coming out down there was coming up through my mouth...I know...gross! Anywho, long story short...I was really ill and from all the constant vomiting, I developed 2 giant hernias. Second surgery July 9th, with a full on large incision right down my belly. Problem solved! Other than a few pains here and there and constant nausea, I am 10 months post-op and I've lost 102 lbs! I started in a size 22 pants and I am now in a size 8! I am currently on the waiting list for plastic surgery. I've gone from 5 different fibro meds to only 1! I'm healthier and happier. Life has new meaning for me. I was given a second chance and will forever be greatful, complications and all. Totally worth it in the end. Zero regrets! Happy to share with you all! XXXXXX
