I am 16 months out. I never made goal I still need to lose 40 pounds . My lowest weight was 173 in August. I had gained weight and was at 187 at my dr. Visit last week. Needless to say my surgeon challenged me to lose 10 pounds in two months. Told him I thouj my sleeve was broken. Turns out I have been grazing. I kept saying few snack won't hurt me. They have killed me and Im so mad at myself. I'm going to Paris in June and want to look fab.
This week went back to basics and have lost 6 pounds since monday. I have gone back to basics as everyone on here suggested and it works. 1 Protein shake in morning , greek yogurt for lunch. Lean Protein for snack when get home from work. Additional lean protein around 7 pm. Also have gotten in all my Water something I never did before. Keeping my carbs at 20 grams and my protein at 90. I am so grateful. That I have this forum to see that I'm not alone on this journey

I will typically go back to how I ate when I was in the weight loss phase - little to no processed foods, limited carbs, no drinking calories, Protein first, then non-starchy veggies. I literally cannot overeat on nutrient-dense, protein-rich food. My tummy won't let me. So by sticking to that kind of food, the calories take care of themselves.

When I first got my sleeve, I worried about not losing weight. I was obsessed with the scale. I know I lost the most of my weight in the first 2 months. My first month I lost about 20 lbs my second month close to the same. since losing 60lbs my weight has come to a screatching stall. I have stall after stall after stall.. I lose two lbs.. stall for weeks...lose another lbs.. stall.. its the nature of the beast. I had a melt down recently thinking that I "stretched" my pouch. Truth is that is hard to do. We get scared and think we stretched our pouch when in reality sub-consciously when know we are not doing what we should be doing. Go back to basics... weigh your food. Depending on how far out you are don't eat over 4-6 oz of food. Choose healthy options, Protein first, and drink that water! Keep exercising and going to the gym... this is my biggest down fall... I am with you, I need to reset my mind.. not my pouch.. that is myth btw.

So when I saw the new dietitian a couple weeks ago she gave me some great ideas about what different Proteins I could try.
The first was a Protein from GNC called AMP. i found a small-ish resealable bag and chose Strawberry!!! i hate that most of my proteins aren't available in strawberry so i'm excited about this option.
The second option is a drink from Atkins called LIFT. 21g protein per bottle! Not really a shake, more of a vitamin-Water type drink. I FOUND THEM AT MY WAL-MART ON CLEARANCE!!! for $7 a pack. normally they are 9.99-11.99 from what i can find online. so i just got one, but let me know if you are a fan, because i'll pick up more. Isopure is the devil to me. Somebody on these boards once told me that 'isopure tastes like cat ass' and seriously, they are right. i can't stand that stuff.
Next- online things. I am a huge fan of youtube and love to watch inspirational videos there, plus old episodes of Fat Doctor. One thing that i fell upon when looking at lifting/bodybuilding videos was a great couple called Fit Couple Cooks. They do meal prep. Absolutely GENIUS!! love their prep videos. they weigh EVERYTHING. and all the recipes are basic-stuff you would have. shrimp with cauliflower rice and veg. butter chicken. chicken fajitas, beef and veg. lasagna. ALL great stuff. they portion and give you tips for storage/freezing. they each have had a significant weight loss journey and he is a registered dietitian so they are pretty knowledgeable. the best part, most of the meals cost about $3-5 per serving so they are very cost friendly.
That's it from me. getting late. have a great start of week!

    Hi Everyone,
I'm a male sleever that has relapsed back into bad habits. I did my surgery back in May 2012. I initially had my starting weight at 122 kg (268 lbs). I successfully dropped the weight down to 75 kg (165 lbs) during the first 18 months. For my first two years, I always logged my meals on MyFitnessPal and worked out 4-5x a week. Was averting 1300-1600 calories daily for maintenance.
Unfortunately, has a series of personal life events that completely overwhelmed me in 2014. Lots of depression and stress in my life, so all the bad habits crept back in. I got up to 100 kg (220 lbs) last month and I was horrified!
Decided to do something happen and regain the willpower to restart my former positivity life. It's amazing what a negative mindset can do wreck havoc! Anyways, after researching these forums for fellow regainers, I decided to follow the pouch reset diet ( http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/) to jump start my path to getting back to losing weight.
It's seriously more challenging than the 5 day pouch reset since it's 10 days! I'm currently at the end of Day 5. Wow! Being on a liquid diet is really tough! It was so much easier to drink liquids immediately post-surgery than today! I'm shrinking the 10 days to 8 days (shorting the last two stages).
For Days 1-3, I hovered around a calorie intake between 500-700 calories, Protein around 70g, and carbs almost nonexistent (<25 grams).
Days 4-5, I got up to 1000 calories daily, 70 grams, and tried to keep carbs under 85 grams.
Key aspects that helped me through the 5 days:
    - try to exercise if you can. I did daily cardio of 150-200 calories burn.
    - drink lots and lots of Water.
    - log everything on an app.
    - I still get hungry between meals (and I have to remind myself that this is head hunger and not real hunger).
    - BE POSITIVE AND HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET FOR CHANGE!
I'm weighed myself and I'm down 2.5 kgs (5.5 lbs). I assume that some of this is Water loss. I'm seriously looking forward to tomorrow when I can start having soft Protein (Hooray!).
Hope this post helps some of the regainers out there. It does happen, but we need to get back on track!

well that says it all! I'm starting a reset tomorrow because I'm once again off track. It just seems so easy for me to derail these days.
I'm working SUCH a terrible schedule right now and my sleep is totally disordered. I find myself eating around the clock some days just to stay awake at work, and am sleeping terribly because of the weight gain.
I thought I was getting back on track pretty well but i'm rolling down the hill once again! Going to just get a tight grasp on my entire situation before I find myself back at my staring weight!!!
Wish me luck- BTW i'm doing the 2 day reset and then the BOT scenario from Bariatric Eating.

Hello everyone. I really need some help and advice. I am 4 yrs post gastric bypass rny. I had no regain up until this winter. I put on 30# and I am feeling like a failure. I'm in a state of depression because I am so mad at myself. Any advice how to get back on tract would be much appreciated. I did the 5 day pouch reset several times and it never worked. For those of you that have been here what did you feel and what did you do to get back on tract.

Hi there, I just found this forum online... I feel like I am needing some support... I had the bypass 3.5 years ago - lost 114 pounds - but was still overweight - I got down to 241. I was never happy that I didn't become 'thin' but was so happy about how free and awesome my body felt. I feel like you biggest challenge was body dis morphia... I looked in my mirror and still looked the same to myself. I saw a flight of stairs and still thought I couldn't do it... so slowly, the weight started to creep back. I gained 30 pounds back. I still felt good, but it scared me! One day, I found out that I was pregnant. This made me very happy! That's all I have ever wanted! In my pregnancy I gained another 30 pounds... I was proud of myself (even though the doctors said i should only gain 11), but i felt healthy and had an amazing pregnancy! I had a very healthy baby girl 6 months ago. She's strong and determined and amazing! The best thing that has every happened to me! I have a good husband, loving family and friends and a good job to go back to after my maternity leave! We also bought a great new house this year! I have a great life! BUT... for some reason, my eating has gotten out of control again and my weight is going up and up and up and my mobility is going down and down and down! I feel sick about it!!! I am 5 pounds heavier than I was when I delivered 6 months ago! It started with being tired and eating whatever I craved shortly after my c-section while I was healing and it spiralled into full on food addiction again. I have been doing so much better for about a month, but, despite that, my weight keeps climbing! Today I was just 42 pounds away from my highest weight!!!!! I'm going in the wrong direction and im scared and sore! My knees and back can't handle this regain! Anyone going through the same thing?

I'm sure there are many different reasons, but maybe common ones as well? Please share your insight & experiences!
I, unfortunately, retained some bad habits (carb heavy diet, drinking calories) from before surgery, and my weight loss has been stalled for several months now. Perhaps I was never really on the wagon as much as I should have been. I know I need to make some changes in order to start losing again.

Our patients learn to log their nutrition to understand whether they are achieving their Protein and other nutrition goals. One challenge is our busy lifestyles. It’s sometimes difficult to remember what you ate.

There are several apps that you can use to log your food, like My Fitness Pal and Lose It. Keeping track of your intake throughout the day can be a relatively quick way to keep your food journal. That’s one smart move. What about days that are so packed you don’t have time to record your foods and fluids until the end of the day? Another smart move is taking a picture of the food and fluids you have throughout the day. When we depend only on our memories, we tend to remember things in our favor and not necessarily the reality. For instance, researchers studied a group of nuns to see if they could accurately report the amount of food they had eaten. Pictures of the meals were taken before and after the meals were eaten. Guess what? The nuns were not too accurate about what they had eaten! Even the best of us need help to accurately recall what we’ve eaten. This is a case where a picture is worth a thousand recollections. Hope you have some smart moves to use today!

What the heck is "mindful eating" anyway? It might sound like some hippie thing, but it backed by real science. You'll be losing weight and feeling great again, all while enjoying food to the fullest. Check it out here!

Mindfulness basically just means paying attention to something - without judgment.
Mindful eating is paying attention to your food, and to your appetite cues - again, without judgment (that's the hard part!).
    Dieting vs. Mindful Eating:
    Diet =
Weight gain: 95% of people who diet will regain the weight they lost within 5 years. 2/3 of those people will regain more than they lost, ultimately resulting in overall weight gain. All about willpower and rigidity. Relies on external cues. Restrictive and depriving. Food & body are the enemy. Mindful Eating =
Weight loss: Studies show that mindful eating programs result in weight loss, fewer calories consumed, lower fat intake and increased self-confidence (Timmerman et al., 2012) All about trust and acceptance. Relies on internal appetite cues. Permissive and satisfying. Food & body are the ally. Which would you prefer? For me, I'd much rather give mindful eating a shot. Especially since dieting was what led up to most people having bariatric surgery in the first place.
    Step-by-step how to eat mindfully:
Pick a calm and quiet place to sit down and eat. Check in with your hunger. Are you physically hungry? If not, wait until later when you are hungry. The food will be much more satisfying if you enter the experience hungry. Choose a food that will be satisfying. Give yourself permission to eat that food without judgment (toward the food or yourself) or guilt. Use all of your senses - look at the food, touch the food, smell the food, taste the food, feel it in your mouth, move it around and notice the way the texture and taste changes as you chew. Chew slowly and thoroughly. As you swallow, feel the food going down your esophagus and into your stomach. Notice how the food feels in your stomach. Ask yourself if you want more. If so, take another bite and repeat until you feel satisfied. At the end, take a moment to express gratitude for the experience, for the food, and for your body. Carry the awareness of mindful attention to other areas of your life - you'll be shocked at what a big difference this makes! Be patient with yourself. The practice of mindful eating is just that - a practice. Your mind and attention will wander, you will inevitably catch yourself judging yourself or the food. That's ok - it's normal. Just notice it, and return your attention to the experience.
Practice this as often as you are able. Of course, it's not possible to eat mindfully 100% of the time, so don't be rigid with it.
As you get more skilled at mindful eating, it will become more effortless and second nature.
See, I told you this wasn't just for hippies! Mindful eating is very doable for all of us. We just have to make the conscious decision to do it. Paying attention to our food and our bodies allows us to get infinite more pleasure out of life.
Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Share your experience in the comments below.
What was it like to pay close attention to the taste and texture of the food?
What was it like to refrain from judgment about yourself for eating the food?
What surprised you about mindful eating?

Thanks ladies for responding! I think your both right. I wasn't listening to my needs vs. wants. I also was not getting enough Water in, which is a major reason I felt the way I did. I could tell the difference when I got my 64 oz. of Water in how satisfied I was. Understanding and balancing everything is a challenge. Today I started puree stage. Really working on timing, chewing, and meeting my Protein and Fluid requirements. Thank goodness I have a phone app to help me.

Maybe the OP had not fully connected with her NUT or her NUT wasn't as knowledgable as other members have been lucky enough to to work with. This forum is a place to share. It's a place to learn. This site can be a lifeline for those who are still struggling with the masses of info you get in this life altering experience. I admire the OP for reaching out, wanting to get it right.
I think the "do what your NUT says" response is flippant and rude. I'm a newbie but I've seen it thrown out there at times. Every time I see it I think "why?" Isn't it assumed that that's what any person who is going thorough the process does first, ask their NUT? If don't have a helpful suggestion, why even bother typing "ask your NUT?"
Hopefully a veteran poster can steer this person in the right direction to get the info she needs. I wish I could help, but I'm not to the solid stage yet. When I am I will be seeking expert info here.
Thanks to all of the posters who take their time and are so generous with their knowledge.
