  1. Thanks ladies for responding! I think your both right. I wasn't listening to my needs vs. wants. I also was not getting enough Water in, which is a major reason I felt the way I did. I could tell the difference when I got my 64 oz. of Water in how satisfied I was. Understanding and balancing everything is a challenge. Today I started puree stage. Really working on timing, chewing, and meeting my Protein and Fluid requirements. Thank goodness I have a phone app to help me.

  3. I had my RNY bypass on the 21st. I feel great! Still a little gassy, but when it moves somewhere uncomfortable I move around then it moves and I'm back to ok. Luckily had some bowel movements on day two and that helped a lot!

That's great Harsha! I remember having horrible gas pains after my hysterectomy. After you have a bowel movement it helps, and also the gas-x film that melts on your tongue helped. I actually picked some up today in preparation. How is going with energy and food?

  4. Yay! Found out my insurance company approved and cleared me for gastric bypass surgery this Thursday, July 28th. What a relief, whew! I have heard horror stories where people find out they were not approved by insurance company the day before or day of surgery. I have 4 more days, excited and nervous, but excited about the journey. How is everyone else doing?

  5. How is going Mina Dina? It can be difficult at times. I too on the liquid pre-op diet have had struggles. Not so much hunger, but wanting something other than liquids. The TV commercials of food have been killing me. I try to understand that the food that is unhealthy is what got me into this predicament. Still a work in progress, counseling has been helping to understand why I had become a food addict and how to fix my issues and not use food as a feel better fix. Very hard and long process, but happy that I am at least taking the proper steps.

  6. I am a 5-days in on the liquid diet, so far so good. The only thing that is really hitting me hard is the lack of energy and the same liquids day in and day out. I have two different shake varieties, low fat/low sodium broth, sugar free Jello in different flavors, and lots of Water. The other thing is the food commercials, which never bothered me until now. Not that I am hungry, just looks tasty and makes me think of food for a brief moment. Oh yeah, and the day my boss had pizza he ordered right in front of me in the office space we share. That was rough, but I made it through. My surgery is scheduled for Thursday 7/28. I am excited, and nervous which is to be expected. Anyone else battling same issues?

  8. In January 2015 I attended a bariatric information session at Cooper in Voorhees. Dr Patel was the surgeon at that session. He spent about half of the session discussing the band as an option and passed around a band to help us understand how it worked. Just about all of the other information I gathered other places indicated that more bands were being removed than were being installed.

I decided to use a different surgeon because of Dr Patel's focus on the band. I was very happy with my surgeon (Christopher Boynton - Virtua Mt Holly).

Thank you for replying! I will be meeting with Dr. Patel tomorrow, and will let you know if he still focuses on the band. Unfortunately, in order for my insurance to pay for my surgery it needs to be done at a tier 1 hospital, and Cooper is the closest.

  9. Hi,

I am a newbie, and started my bariatric process back in February with Bariatric Surgeon Marc Neff. In the middle of the process my insurance changed and I wasn't aware until now that Dr. Neff doesn't perform surgeries at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. I am scheduled to meet and switch to surgeon Rohit A. Patel who is with Cooper in Voorhees, NJ. Has anyone had their surgery performed by Dr. Patel? Please tell me about your experience, since I have completed all my doctor evaluations, tests, nutritional counseling, etc and am hoping he will schedule my surgery date. Not sure yet if I want to have gastric bypass or sleeve. Also, how was Cooper Hospital?

    Thanks,

    Maria
