    Throwing up??

Try calling your doctor and asking him to call in some anti nausea medicine. The same thing happened to me after surgery and I ended up getting dehydrated. Try to avoid having that happen!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I had my doctor's appointment today and we decided to hold off on the fill. Basically, he asked me questions about what, how much, and how often I was eating. He said when it's time for a fill I will KNOW it because I will be eating 1.5-2 cups off food and not staying full for very long. Now I eat about .5c of food, and as long as it's protein, I stay full for 4-5 hours. I scheduled another appointment 2 weeks from now, so we'll see how it goes. I am down 23 pounds total since first meeting with him at the end of February.

You can expect to pay between 15-16k. A payment will be made to the doctor and a seperate payment will be made to the hospital/surgery center. Good luck to you!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I'm glad others have questions as far as fills go too. I too am not sure what to do. I am going to the doctor's tomorrow and will talk to him about it and I will report back. Basically, I am still not eating all that much at all. I am able to drink plenty, including water and protein drinks, and I am good with mushies, but I have been too afraid to really eat anything solid. I still don't eat more than 1/2c of food at a time. I usually stay full for about 4-5 hours. In the past 2 days, I have tried cheese, deli meat, and a meatball, and everything went down fine. But I am still scared! I have lost 20 pounds so far, but the weight loss is definately slowing down. Hopefully I will have more info. to share after my appointment tomorrow.

Glad everyone seems to be progressing nicely. I have an appointment on Monday for a fill, but I don't think I am ready for one quite yet. I'll go in to talk to the doctor on Monday and I'll let you know what we decide! Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. Erika

Teri, I'm glad you're fill went well. I go in Monday for an appointment. I'll let you know what we decide. I had a good time at the meeting Thursday night. It was great to finally put names and faces together. It would be great to spend some time walking together. Next month might be hard with Memorial Day weekend, but let's see when the meeting is. I would also love to share our experiences.

March 25th bandsters - check in

Hi. I'm Erika. I was also banded on March 25. I did have to go back in for another surgery 1 week later because my band was too tight, so in some ways I am a week behind you guys, but I am really starting to feel better. I do still have some pain around my port site. I have also lost about 20 pounds. My appetite is starting to come back, but I have been afraid to advance my diet too much. I guess I am scared of making myself sick, but I am building my courage to try new things. I am scheduled for a fill on April 28, but I am not sure I will be quite ready at that point for a fill. i'm taking one day at a time. I like having a thread like this---we are all in the same boat!
  8. I was banded on March 25. Immediatly after surgery I experienced nausea and vomiting due to the band being too tight, even without a fill. A week later, on April 2, my doctor went back in to trim the fat pad and give me a bit more room. Since the 2nd surgery, I have not had nausea or vomiting, but it is taking me a lot longer to bounce back. I am able to get in plenty of liquids, but I have a hard time with eating. I know everyone is different, but it seems that most people who were banded close to me are already feeling great and regaining their appetite. I guess I just want some reassurance that there are varying degrees to normal and that I won't always feel like this. I am very much looking forward to being "normal" and eating normal foods, just in small portions, and not struggling to take in some yogurt! Please share your wisdom!

Smelly urine can also have to do with the vitamins you are taking.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hello all. I hope everyone is continuing to do well. I get to go to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully get these awful staples removed. That should help my comfort level! I am continuing to get better and am slowly trying all of the things that I can tolerate. The funny thing is is that my kids are learning about new foods they like as well. I had to buy a bunch more cottage cheese because they were beating me to it! It feels good to know that I am not only changing my life, but the health of my kids as well. I thought that was pretty cool. Teri- good luck going back to work tomorrow. I hope you have a smooth and easy day! Talk to you soon. Erika

I am just feeling regular incision pain from the port sight and other places of entry, but not anything more from the fat pad. Cutting the fat pad has brought nothing but relief!

I was just banded last week and would love a cookbook. Please keep me posted!

    gas pains

Windy, I was banded on the 25th and suffered horribly from nausea AND vomiting. My doc first put me on phenergan, but switched to zofran when the phenergan didn't help. As it turns out, my band was a bit snug because of the fat pad in my stomach. My doc said it would loosen on its own in a week or 2, but I ended up going back in and having him trim some of it off. I had gotten dehydrated from the nausea and couldn't wait any longer. That's just my story, but I am feeling so much better now! I hope you feel better soon too!

The E is for my first name, Erika, and the ending is like "everlasting" without a few of the letters- just one of those things, something dumb I started going by long ago. If anyone is interested I did find a cookbook called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. It looks like it could be a winner!

I am back at home and feeling much better. I had my second surgery today where my Dr cut off a bit more of my fat pad to loosen the tightness and take away all the nausea and vomiting. He was skilled, kind, and compassionate. Now I am experiencing a recuperation that you all must be familiar with, a regular recuperation with incision discomfort and gas, but what a welcome change!!! Thanks for all of the support!

So my saga continues! I went into the ER today b/c I felt I was close to dehydration. The ER doc gave me 2 bags of saline and called my surgeon, who instructed him to give me another. Then my surgeon called when I got home and wants to see me again tomorrow at the surgery center to put me under again and check on the band. If, one inside, he feels like it needs to be adjusted, he will make a change. I was banded on the 25th with absolutely no fill. I'll keep you guys posted!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi everyone. I went into the doctor's office today because of my persistant nausea and vomiting. I am 6 days post op and it hadn't let up. As it turns out, my band is a bit too tight, kind of like I am overfilled without the ability to get an unfil. My doc said that during the surgery, they measured me for which allergan band to use, the regular one or the larger one, and the smaller one was better, but did look a little tight. He said as my stomach fat dissolves, it will loosen up and feel better, hopefully within this next week. In the meantime, he gave me some great nausea medicine and some steroids to help with inflammation. I hope this passes quickly! Teri- I am glad you get extra time off work. I say take as much as you can. Good luck to everyone as we continue our journey!

OK. I went to the office today and figured out what was happening. I was so sick that they took me right back and started helping me immediatly. There is a nurse there named Ciny who is one in a million, so sweet and so helpful. Anyway, Dr H came in and said they had fit me with the regular sized allergan band. He said that band was a better fit than the larger one, but during the surgry he did speak with Tim about it looking very tight i.e. too much fat around the stomach area! The fat needs time to melt away. It is as if I am overfilled, without the ability to get an unfil. Lucky me! Anyway, he said this doesn't happen very often and should get better as I continue to lose weight, hopefully within the next week. He gave me some better nausea medecine and some steroids to help with the swelling. So that's my story, and I hope to be feeling better soon!

Thanks, Ghost. I tend to freak out a little when I read around and find that no one else is experiencing what I am and that most others are progressing much more rapidly.

Hi all. I am still hanging in there. Today was the first day I have felt even a little better, eventhough I woke up to a bad start. I woke up very queasy and actually threw up. I took a suppository and got someething in my stomach and have improved as the day went on. I called in to my doc's office and spoke with the on call doc. He said as long as I was keeping liquids down, I was ok to wait it out and call my doc tomorrow morning. I plan on doing that but was wondering if any of you experienced nausea and vomiting in the beginning. Today I am 5 days post op.
