  1. Mine hurt a while too. I remember thinking wtf? Lol it'll get better too but if you need surgery, I would think it's safe to wait til you heal from one before the next

I agree @@Delta07!!! I made that mistake about 3 years ago. I had a triple fusion of my left ankle July 2013, left knee replacement February 2014 and triple fusion of my right ankle July 2014. Unfortunately this last one did not heal correctly and I will have to make a decision at some point if the pain is unbearable to have the surgery redone!! That is something I really have to think about hard since it means another 10 weeks of non weight bearing again.

  3. I can completely relate! I couldn't imagine how people went back to work at only 2 weeks!

The surgery is bigger than most believe and when you get used to it, you realize how much you managed to overcome. I promise you, it gets better. Stick to your Vitamins and rest as much as possible. If you work it can be tough. I'm a single mom and work and laughed when the nurses have me that advice but it helped so much with recovery. At about week 5 you'll wake up feeling a little normal and it'll get better from there!

Thank you @@Delta07!! I am now at almost 6 weeks out and I did start getting a little more energy about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Also, I started using my CPAP again at 3 weeks, which has also helped. Now if I could get my arthritis pain under control. My right knee is a total mess (bone on bone) and has been this way for around 5 years now. I already had my left knee done but am holding off as long as possible to do the right---hoping losing the weight will help with this.

  4. You had a really big surgery, I think we for get that. If you are getting in your Protein and liquids that is good. Did your surgeon ask you to take any supplements such as B-12? I take that twice a week.

After surgery I was tired for about 6 weeks or so, then my energy took off. The more weight I lose the better it gets.

    Hang in there!

Thanks @@ShrinkingPeach!! Yes I am taking Multivitamins, D3, Calcium and B12. I've been taking all of these for about 2 weeks now.

  5. Hi!!

I had my sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago today (March 23). So far, I seem to be doing pretty well with everything except that I still do not have much energy and am extremely tired just about all the time. I feel I am getting the appropriate amounts of Protein and fluids. Before surgery I did use a CPAP machine, but was told not to use it after surgery for at least 2 weeks. I did call the surgeon's office today, but didn't really get any answers. I will be going to my primary Dr. tomorrow and will discuss with him too.

I guess I am reaching out to those of you who are further along in their journey to see how you felt at 3 weeks post-op. Is this a "norm", or should I be concerned.

Are you back using your CPAP? I would definitely start again!

Thanks @@KristenLe! I've decided to try using my CPAP tonight to see if it makes a difference.

  6. Hi Carsonsmom,

I had my sleeve surgery on 3.16.16. I am still having some problems with low energy. I really believe it is your body learning to deal with the change in the amount of food that you are taking in. Dehydration can be a part of it. I am actually sitting in an infusion center at the moment getting fluids and Vitamins due to Dehydration and the fact I am not getting much food in.

I think over time we will start to feel better it will start to turn around.

Thanks @Zoes.Realm! So sorry you're having issues with dehydration. I hope you are feeling better soon!!

  7. I was told not to use for at least 2 weeks after surgery, although I did have to bring with me to the hospital. I have been extremely tired and I am 3 weeks post-op. I called the surgeon's office today, but did not get a real answer on whether I could use now or not. May just try it tonight to see if it helps.

  9. I spent 6 months psyching myself up for surgery. I wanted it in October, but was postponed till November. Then I was told the surgeon was booked too tightly and he'd have to cancel to either December or January. I had jumped through all the hoops and taken the plethora of tests. I was self funded so I told the office manager that I was going to cancel. I had a friend that had his procedure in Mexico with excellent results, so I was getting prepared to book. Well, with that I was scheduled for Mid November. That worked for me. While there are sometimes extenuating circumstances, you DO have choices. :) Good luck in getting this part of the journey finished. It is much easier to look in retrospect that 1 month is not a big deal, but when you're going through it, that much time seems like an eternity.

Thanks! My journey began in July 2014 with the information session--almost 2 years ago. So I guess a little more time won't hurt (maybe not physically--but mentally????). Anyway, it will happen, hopefully sooner than later.

  10. Well I was supposed to have my sleeve surgery done yesterday, but on Monday afternoon I received a phone call from the surgeon's office letting me know that he had a family emergency and would have to reschedule. I don't have a new date yet, but was told it wouldn't be months. Of course I understand that we cannot control the fact that emergencies happen, but am really bummed that I have to wait......again! I spent so much time with all the research, preparation, psyching myself up, etc. and for this to happen, it just deflated me. Anyway, I do hope it's soon. I guess I just needed to vent a little to those who understand. Thanks for listening.

  11. I REALLY needed this thread today!!! My surgery isn't until February 23, but lately it seems my "bad habits" have been creeping in more and more. Like a lot of you have said, I am beginning to feel it is emotional eating, plus the "I already had one and blew it, it doesn't matter if I have another" mode of thinking. Usually when I go to the grocery store, I have a list and most times try to stick to it. I also, try not to go down the aisles that are triggers for me. I usually try to stay on the outside perimeter to do my shopping (I heard somewhere that's the way to do the best at healthy shopping), but sometimes my compulsive habits kick in where I don't think about what's right or wrong. I know this is something I have to work on, but am glad that I'm not the only one who has this problem. I do see a therapist once per month and we will be working on this. I am eagerly waiting for any more tips anyone may have.

Thanks for starting this thread!!! :)

  12. Almost everyone I shared my WL surgery decision have been very supportive, except for the 1 person I thought would be happy that I was working towards getting myself healthy, my father. He says he's supportive, but asks me if I'm sure I want to do this or he just doesn't talk about it at all. I'm a grown adult with a husband, son, daughter-in-law and 2 beautiful grandsons. I think I can make my own decisions now!!!

  13. Congratulations!! I hope as I get further down my journey that I will be able to do the same!!

Guess I have to work on that "voice" inside of me from when I was a kid and my mom would say if I didn't finish my plate "You don't know how lucky you are to have food because there are kids in China that are starving."

Plus coming from an Italian family where they are always pushing food on you and would be insulted if you didn't eat.

I have been getting better with turning down food that isn't quite healthy, but I do have trouble throwing away food.

  14. This is my first post. I was doing well at tracking when I was losing weight (pre-op) before meeting with the nutritionist for 2nd visit. Since then (July 2015) and while waiting to hear whether I'd be approved for the surgery, I have unfortunately stopped and am having trouble starting again. I never heard anything about whether I was approved until end of October 2015, and had to change my date for the surgery since the time they originally gave me was when I was going on vacation. So surgery is tentatively scheduled for end of February 2016. I know I do better when I track. I know this from past weight loss programs. I guess I get too comfortable thinking I know what to do, of course I know I'm lying to myself and slowly start getting back into old habits. Although I found this time it was different. I was able to reign myself in and get myself back on track even though I wasn't tracking. I was using Myfatsecret for tracking. I'm not totally sure I am 100% happy with this site. I noticed a lot of people use my fitness pal. Those of you who do, are you satisfied? Any other apps that people have used any better? I like easy, nothing complicated. Thanks.
