    Pickles <3

I'm reviving this thread. I'm about to lose it over fermented and pickled cravings! In the past when I had dental work, I had used a potato peeler on a pickle before, on the large pickles, and then sliced them down the center and used a spoon to scoop out the seeds, as you would when preparing a cucumber for a Waldorf salad, or something. Only I have not tried to eat a pickle yet because I am scared it will go into my sleeve and feel like I drank battery acid. *cry* This is terrifying me. I do not want to throw up or feel a burn. I'm on week 4, maybe 4.5 post op. So you guys are Veterans now. "Bubbies Pickles" at my local Whole Foods are amazing!! They are authentic fermented pickle, not vinegar pickle. Then, I love this vinegar based brand called "Best" pickles from Texas. Both make me so happy! SO. HAPPY. I love homemade sauerkraut. Right now I'd be happy with just the juice in those bags of pickles and kraut!! Pickled-Centric'd UPDATE" My nutritionist said I can try to sip the juice, see how I feel. =D I'll call my nutrionist. Even if she says it's ok ... I really am worried it will burn it. I have FIbromyalgia and I can tell you where every single staple and suture line is inside my body. It's the strangest disorder. Developed in my late 20s. I am aware if a fly farts in a nearby town. =( PS So am I going to burp forever too? I had the lap band in 2008, it prolapsed above my stomach, removed in 2011. I just now had my Gastric Sleeve. *cheers*

    After Surgery Food

It's fun, I hope you enjoy it! There are a few times I wasn't watching the pot and it got to a rolling near-boil. They say that can burn off or break down some of the collagen, so once I kept checking for the simmer bubbles, things turned out gelicious! You're lucky to be near a butcher! Yep. Being a Foodie is what got me here, lol.

    After Surgery Food

Do you like to make and sip homemade beef and chicken "bone" broth? If you do, I highly recommend making some now and freezing it in little blocks for whenever you need it. I am nearly out of all the bone broth I made pre surgery so I currently have 3 pots simmering on the stove and they've been simmering for about 48 hours now. When the chicken bones disintegrate in your hands, when the heavy beef bones are stark white, they're "done", you've extracted your nutrients, minerals and collagen. And my nutritionist said this is so much better than the packaged or the cubes in jars, and the stuff they give you in the hospital. Some people can afford all grass fed, some can't. I've had same Gelatin quality results from both. I'm not a scientist so I can't say more than that. Other than it was a godsend! When you refrigerate it and it turns to a gel, a g jiggly gelatin, you did it right. =) Heating it up, OMG it's so delicious. Youtube has so many fun and different recipes! It's not the same as "stock". If you have time, make it. My nails are so strong post op, lol. Not losing hair, maybe that doesn't happen yet, I don't know ... ?? I also had tons of Water. Sip Sip Sipping water. Ice chips. I was allowed sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles, but I don't like the tastes of those at all, so it was just bone broth and water for me. =) It was not hard and I did not feel like I was on a diet or missing out on something. =) I was not allowed any type of Protein mix in. I see here so many surgeons are so different with their guidelines pre and post op. PS I got bored with chicken and beef, so one day I made it from fish bones and shellfish, mussels, clams, etc. YUM.
  5. I purchased my first bottle of a Multivitamin at my Bariatric Surgeons office. It's "The Bariatric Advantage Advanced Multi EA". They taste like a candy bracelet. I also purchased the "Calcium Citrate Chewables", they taste like a tootsie rolls. I ordered from a company called allstarhealth. When I noticed how affordable their products, especially great name brand products were I paused ...so I called them to ask why and how they could make a profit selling so low. Then I called the vendors of three of my favorite Vitamin brands and asked them if they sold directly to this company in All Star Health, California, and they said they did indeed. Then I called back and asked All Star if they sold off market or outdated Vitamins (skin care, pet care, etc) and they said no. The reason they can sell so low and still make a profit is because the turn over is huge. (I used to own my own store-front Jewelry Business, it's a Dog-Eat-Dog world out there) So from them I ordered : Futurebiotics Trace Minerals Advanced Colloidal (for when I'm cleared) Vitamin Code Raw Vitamin C by Garden of Life. When I am cleared to make my own shakes, I have the Garden of Life Green Magma, algae, spirulina, wheat grass etc. to add to my Protein mixes. Country Life Magnesium Potassium Aspartate I always love to read about what works for people. I have Fibromyalgia, and that is why I choose some of the options I have. Don't even ask what's in my Vitamin Burlap Sack, which I am staying away from currently!

    What Is Your Biggest Fear?

I'm only approaching week 4 post op VSG, and I still have anxiety about any number of complications setting in. I've always felt like the girl with the bad luck. But ... nothing has gone wrong! yay! I am being as compliant as I can, and I hope I understand everything I am being told to do because even I am aware of how I can misinterpret something or forget something. I'm just a person with health anxieties, they amp'd up this past year. Because of all the changes happening in our medical system I decided to get everything accomplished, surgeries etc, in 2014 and 2015 and I had a few completely unexpected things happen that made me feel completely isolated and alone. One thing about your health, is that it belongs to you and you alone. No matter how much someone loves me, he can not wave a magic wand and heal me. I want to know ...at what point am I "out of the woods" post op VSG. So yes, that is my biggest fear.
  7. Only liquids 24 hours before, clear. Meaning Water and broth. Then nothing, ZILCH after midnight. My surgery as at 8:30am.

There is poop and I cant poop

For myself, I only had "wet flatulence" for about a week while on liquids. I would get the sensation of having to pass gas, but it could have been a wet one so I'd run to the toilet just to be safe.

There is poop and I cant poop

Question! Will Olive Oil work the same way as Mineral Oil? Because I would much rather try that. =( I can't wait until this phase is over with. I was always a regular pooper.

There is poop and I cant poop

My mom and I would measured out 67 ounces of Water every morning for 1, 16 hour day since surgery. I've been drinking that and going over that limit for sure. Luckily it's no longer difficult for me to sip- sip- sip. =)
  12. Very inspirational! Thank you!
  13. I'm not allowed those types of "solid" foods yet, not even until week 5 or maybe 6. (? need to double check but I'm not about to ruin my wound!) Like I've mentioned before, mine is very cautious. Please get on the phone with your Dr. tomorrow and be safe! *hug*

There is poop and I cant poop

Main ingredient in Miralax = polyethylene glycol, cost $10-$30 Main ingredient in Mineral Oil = polyethylene glycol, cost $2-$11 I had to tell this to the nurse at my Bariatric Center. She said if the Mineral Oil didn't work, try Miralax. O.o So what is the difference? I have the Mineral Oil, no taste, absoutley no stomach upset, no intestinal scrunching and it's not off-putting to take it. After you take your 2 tsps or tbsp (whatever you need to work up to) or just seems like you put on lip gloss, lol.

    February 2016 sleevers?

I absolutely love your attitude! I had mine Feb 1st and all is going well.

There is poop and I cant poop

Yep I'm 3 weeks out post op now, and had this problem 2 days ago. I was told to use the Mineral Oil in the laxative section. Worked like a charm. But I have a feeling this is going to be a problem for awhile. The Protein shakes made me feel like I have been creating 'chalk sticks' in my bowels.

    Scared

    That's hilarious!!
  18. I was *this close* to having a half cup of coffee, until I read this article: Do you agree with this article? To me it kind of advises that even small amounts of caffeine after being consumed will linger and continue to create acid in the stomach. It's one of those days and God as my witness I need a jolt. A jolt to get errands accomplished, and to help my first experience w/ constipation this morning. And in my mind, I'm thinking, what's a little cup of coffee going to do to me if I add the same amount of appropriate milk? Not happy. I know I can get in my Water, that's not been a problem. But I can not make an acidic environment in my stomach because after reading everything it seems GERDs is the lingering lurch who will STRIKETH DOWN" all who enter the VSG world. *LE SIGH*!! Here is the snipet from "Livestrong" Stomach Acid Coffee both contains acid and creates acid. There’s the amount of acid in the brew itself, but there’s also the acid your stomach produces as a result of drinking the coffee. In the latter case, caffeine is a culprit, as it makes your stomach generate more acid. But other components of coffee also stimulate stomach acid. People who suffer from acid reflux, a condition in which stomach contents seep up the esophagus, may want to reconsider drinking coffee at all. Differing Studies A study at Munich’s Hospital Bogenhausen, as reported in the June 1997 issue of the "Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics Journal," found that patients experienced less gastroesophageal reflux when drinking decaffeinated coffee. But some studies have had the opposite results. Some experts say it depends on the type of bean from which the coffee is made.

    Clear liquid protein

I am still learning, and I am on week 3 out of the hospital. I was allowed NOTHING. Nothing for you! (not really) I was allowed Water, sugar free Popsicle, which I do not like, ice chips, and Jello, which I do not like, and packages of broth ... "broth" they call it, in little powder packages. SO I had the water and "broth" packs and ice, that's it. If you had surgery yesterday, that seems very progressive to have Protein mixes this soon. I can't remember where I read it, but some nutrionist told me that the Isopure was not actually loaded with protein we could use because it was "denatured". I thought that was a clear protein. Oh well. Ask them what they are doing to you! =)

    Really missing coffee

PSS The food Grade Mineral Oil worked wonders! Gotta say, I love that too. That happened before I made it to Starbucks. PSSS No, I am not a huge Starbucks fan, but my mom is here and she is uber Americana.

    Really missing coffee

I talked to the manager at my local Starbucks today, they sell "Cold-Brewed" coffee. Cold brewing VS standard brew reduces the acidity level sometimes up to 65%. Cold Brewing takes standard of 20 hours of coarse ground coffee sitting in Water, then when that's finished you press it out or pour what you want from a Cold Press Brewer. Really cool! SO. I will just load my new Cold Brewer tonight in the fridge and have it in the morning, making sure I do it 20 hours before. So to answer your question, the cold brewing reduces acidity, thus reducing the adverse effects of acidic environment in the new tube. =D I had a small one and I admit, I was in HEAVEN after 6 weeks of being off all loaded and unloaded coffee. The caffeine content was the same, I did not feel jittery, nor did I go pee like a maniac, like I was dehydrating. So I'm a really happy camper right now. God Bless "Outside"

    Really missing coffee

Outside! Thank you for this! Is there a cold coffee brewer that you recommend? Reading about some now, so many!

    Really missing coffee

I know, I have two omeprazole per day as well. 20 and 20. I'm just so mad, grrr. My kind mother went to the store to get Mineral Oil for me, because that's what the nurse at BMI of Texas recommenced this morning. Wow, so much better than coffee. O.o *angry face* These Protein shakes I'm drinking end up like chalk sticks!

What's your favorite chicken salad recipe?

Rotisserie chicken breasts and some of the juicy thigh meat Celery hearts, the very center stalks and the light green leaves Mustard seeds (pre-marinated in balsamic, pickle and pickled jalapeno juice) Capers Dash of Cayenne Paprika Dukes Mayo or Kennsington Mayo Drizzle Reduced Balsamic Vinegar Red Onion Drizzle Yellow Mustard Sea Salt $ Black Pepper Some of the Gelatin from bottom of Rotisserie Chicken pan for added moisture and flavor All of this is to taste, it's hard to follow a recipe here! And I know I am leaving something out, but I can't wait to have this again. I would have it over leafy greens, nothing else except maybe fresh squeezed lemon on the greens.

    Vitamins after surgery

I think that was when I started taking vitamins. You will get so many vitamins in your IV at the hospital, you should be good to go for a while. I got jipped! I asked what was in my IV bag and they told me only saline solution. Grrrr. I asked if I could have "nutrients" and the nurses said no, essentially, that I didn't "need" them. >.>
