I've heard it could be sutures inside that have been absorbed (as they are supposed to) and your organs may shift slightly. Hopefully just part of the healing process and will get better soon. Of course I'm not a doctor...good luck with everything!

Loudy227 got a reaction from ZetaStar in Complication with DS surgery
Not to scare anyone, I just want to report on my recent complication from surgery. I am 7 months post op from duodenal switch. I've had no complications until two weeks ago. I felt a little ill one afternoon, minor stomach pain. I attributed it to acid or gas.
I then ate dinner and immediately became violently ill. Severe abdominal pain and nausea. So bad my husband took me to the ER. I started vomiting and I needed pain medicine. A CT scan shoed some kind of blockage. They admitted me and my bariatric surgeon met with me in the morning. He said a had at least a partial blockage in the small intestine. He operated laproscopically that afternoon. I also needed an umbilical hernia repair (he had done one when he did my DS but it didn't hold, this time he used mesh).
I spent another night in the hospital. I was sent home with pain meds and I was in worse pain than the DS surgery or my c-section.
But it is two weeks later and I'm mostly healed. I think the hernia surgery was 90% of my pain. The blockage was easily fixed with surgery.
I'm still thrilled with my DS, I've lost 135 lbs. But I wanted to share in case anyone else had similar symptoms. Know that you could have a serious problem if you're feeling really ill, so please call your doctor or go to the ER. Also know that you can have a pretty quick recovery and get back to normal soon

Make sure you're on the list (if they keep one) to call if there is a cancelation. I got in earlier than my appointment that way. I think these places have a good amount of cancelations, because I was called twice in three days (the first time didn't work out for me.)

Many people have, and the board is full of the discussions about it.
I personally have come to hate the word "cheat".
Until you are released to full solid foods, you are on a diet progression prescribed by your doctor to ensure you heal the best possible after a major abdominal surgery. Deviating from those instructions is in my mind, not "cheating", it's willfully disregarding your physician's instructions that are designed to let you heal and keep you safe.
I'm a nurse, and I will tell you that deviating from your surgeon's diet progression can be VERY dangerous. Some people will do it and have no ill effects. Some will land in the hospital, possibly the ICU, with a leak. A few will even die.
Once you are cleared to a full solid diet, then it's just about choices. You choose to follow the plan, or not. The consequences are the changes in your success. "Cheating" minimizes the choice you're making.
To answer the question, while I was progressing from liquids to purees to solids, no I did not deviate from my surgeon's guidelines. WAY too risky.
Since having been released to solid foods, I have eaten things that weren't really "on plan" and I may have slowed my weight loss making that choice.

Reading this and wondering why shelterdog64 seems so focused on what others are doing. We are all addicts and food is our drug of choice and none is better than the next. Live your life and learn to let others travel their own road. I am new to this forum and was disappointed reading ur post. Its very negative and what purpose does it serve. Think about that. Newcomer.

What other reason should there be than meeting an arbitrary requirement? Hell, if it's the difference between being at a BMI of 39.8 and being denied and a BMI of 40.1 and getting approved - I'd boost my weight for the important weigh in without even thinking about it!
When it comes to insurance companies and meeting their weight requirements I'd classify that "roll of quarters" as an act of pure self-defense.

I guess what I'm trying to understand is why there's so much anger and vitriol instead of compassion and more understanding. None of us get to a place where we need surgery because we've made good choices or had 100% transparency or honesty with ourselves or with others. Sometimes there are issues that run a lot deeper with some folks than others. You just never know a person's background or story.
I also know from my own past (I'm almost nine years out) and many of my friends in the WLS community we all had experiences where when we first had surgery and were doing remarkably well, we felt invincible and full of conviction and top of the world with our choices and actions. It's easy to get to a place of high-ground when you feel that way, which is why I think it's important to remember that it doesn't always stay that way. There are always going to be times when you question others actions, and that's normal and fine. But remember, there are probably others doing the same to you. Extend the same kindness you'd want for yourself.

Being judgemental with each other NEVER helps. Support is not judgemental. Support is support. You're there through the good times and the bad listening, lending an ear, giving the best advice you can through a supportive and encouraging lens that won't further damage someone(s) already struggling.
