One of my dear friends had RNY Surgery over 7 years ago and had PCOS. She and her husband had never had a positive pregnancy test in ten years of marriage. After WLS she was able to get pregnant with their daughter.

Have you started your preop diet yet? I start tomorrow for my July 29th surgery date. Excited to finally be at this point!

The preop diet is tough, no doubt about it but am concerned you are still struggling so much. The level of changes you make for surgery are drastic and post surgery there are no other options than to be complaint with your doctor's orders or you will be sick or hurt yourself. Ask yourself are you ready for all of that? This thing takes total commitment or it just isn't worth it! You'd be setting yourself up for failure postop and I wouldn't want that for anyone.

I felt like my six month diet helped me wrap my brain around this process. I've read a lot of posts in the past year and researched a ton but I felt like that time was really preparing me for life after surgery. Some programs really want to focus on successful outcomes. I know a few surgeons who build their practice on making sure that this is a lifelong treatment for obesity not just another weight loss scheme. These surgeries are tough and being prepared mentally is important.
During my preop time I would sometimes wish I didn't have to do the six months but post surgery I realize that it gave me time to be full prepared for the lifestyle change.

Find a PCP that is supportive! A lot of old school doctors don't like wls but so many see the benefits it has for their patients!

It might be less tempting to think about if you called it what it is, self-sabotage, rather than "cheating." Cheating just sounds so cute and daring, right? But say to yourself, when do I get to self-sabotage? How often will I let myself self-sabotage? Will I self-sabotage for an entire day, or just for a meal? Etc. At least to me, it sounds a lot more serious and a lot less fun when I call it out by its true nature. Good luck!

I'm surprised they waited that long to test you. My surgeon sent me to be tested after his first visit with me because sleep apnea is so very common with his patients. It will go by fast but I understand how frustrating it is to have to wait. Get in ASAP and get fitted then you'll be on your way!

For the thing poking out I would go for the enema. Usually it get packed in there at the end and acts like a plug. Once that is out the rest will be easier to get out.

Have you ever tried the chicken broth called better than buillion? It comes in a jar near the chicken broth section in the Soup aisle and I think tastes better than the canned stuff. You just add the amount for the flavor you want. Also miso soup is really yummy if you allowed that option. You can pick some up at an Asian grocery store.

I have found finding a PCP that understands gastric bypass and is supportive of it is key. I have contemplated this surgery for many years but had never had a PCP who thought it was a good idea until I moved to my current location. When I moved here I found a good and supportive doctor who had experience with other bariatric patients and has been very supportive of my goals. It is so great not to have to try and justify my choice with her. She worked with me on my six month diet and has cheered me on. She said at my last appointment how excited she is to see my progress during our next visit and I feel like I have an encouraging ally in this fight.
There are many doctors with their own idea about obesity and that still think it's only about eating too much.
If I were you I would find some people in your area support group community and ask some of them about their PCPs that might be a little more knowledgable and helpful then your current one. It's made all the difference for me in this process.

It's standard to get a catheter when you go under anesthesia so you don't have an accidental discharge while under. I've had a catheter several times for other surgeries and they have always waited until I've been under to put it in. They usually take it out shortly after surgery. I never had a problem with any of mine. It wasn't bad at all.

I'm feeling lucky that I just have to follow a low calorie diet with my PCP. It seems ridiculous to expect someone who is struggling with food to be on a liquid diet for that long. I know I can stick with the plan my PCP outlined. It is nothing I haven't been successful at before. I'm just hoping not to do anything dumb. I love sweets and can still eat them and they are a constant temptation but I've been choosing to stay away even though I'm just restricted calories.

I just did my first weigh in at the doctor's office for my six month's diet insurance requirement. My PCP was super supportive and helpful. My dr five years ago was really opposed to it and swayed me away from doing it so this is a relief. I'm going to use myfitnesspal to track my food and exercise by walking every day. This is something I know I can be successful at because I've done it before. I do worry about weekly support since I only see my dr monthly but I think I will have a good friend go through my food journals with me every week to keep me on track.

I'm sorry this is so frustrating for you. Waiting is hard! I'm doing six months of a weight loss plan for my insurance so I know how that feels! I'm almost halfway but I've realized that it's good for me to get prepared for after surgery. I think so much of my struggle with weight loss is mental so I think it's helping me prepare for times when I'm not going to want to be patient afterwards, (stalls, head hunger etc) hang it there! It will go by fast! Try to focus on what you can do now to prepare. I'm sure there is a reason it happened this way.

Some doctors/surgeons just don't engage with patients like that. I used to work for a group of surgeons and they were very competent and had decent bedside manners but they weren't what I'd call encouraging or engaging. I'd look to your PCP or a nurse for that kind of encouragement.
You're doing awesome! Keep up the good work!
