  1. Interested in this as a possible revision option. I had my VSG in January 2016 and have had a regain of 20 pounds but never actually reached my goal weight. Wondering about the insurance coverage though. Don't want to pay out of pocket if at all possible. Sounds like recovery is much like VSG just without the abdominal incision. Going to get in touch with my surgeon and see if its a possibility for me.

  2. Well I'm now in Day 2 of the fast days. Had to break out the Prilosec on day 1 and had a bit of a headache by that evening. The second day has been much easier. Just eating dinner on both days then nothing else.Trying to stick to the 500 calories per day during the fast. I'm over a year and a half post op so my daily normal calorie intake is around 1500 to 2000.
This fasting regime was actually recommended by my team when I went to my 1 year checkup.
It's supposed to help with metabolic resistance. I was one of those people who could live on air and still gain weight before surgery and I'm petrified I'm going to gain it all back again. Hoping the 5:2 will keep the gain from creeping up. Mosley is the one I'm trying to follow.

  3. Hello Heather,
I had my thyroid removed and VSG 2 months later. I've lost 60 lbs but medication issues still affect weight loss.
I am confident that I never could have lost the weight without having my thyroid removed.
I could eat nothing (and pretty much did)lol but no weight would come off.
Once I had the surgery I couldn't believe I could eat and not gain weight.
There's so much more to obesity than calories and exercise.
    Good luck managing your Hashi's
    I know it's tough.

  4. I was on synthroid for a while and it made me extremely emotional, (which is unlike me) and I stopped taking it. My former doctor wouldn't listen to me and uped the dose. I quit going to him and my new doc has me on armor thyroid. It seems to be working, it's just taking time. Every 6 weeks my levels improve.

    Hi There,
Just saw your post and am thinking of switching from synthrroid to armour. I am a year and a half out with my sleeve and have been stalled at the same weight for a year. I am 40lbs from my goal. I have been having terrible hot flashes recently and am on .125 synthroid since my surgery 2yrs ago. I know my endo will want to lower my dose which will make the weight that much harder to get off but the hot flashes are miserable, too.

How is the armour working for you?

  5. I had 3 surgeries on Jan 26 2016. The sleeve, gallbladder removal and hernia repair. I was doing great until Oct of last year. I am about 40 pounds from my goal weight and finding these last 40 to be very difficult to get off. Since Halloween I have been bouncing back and forth with the same 10 pounds. Can't seem to get out of the 200's. I still can't walk because of 4 herniated discs but I am riding my trike. Was suppose to have some skin removal surgery but that was canceled as they found some microcalcifications and now I am waiting for a biopsy. Once I get pass this situation I hope to be able to get below 200.

That's great that you have found an exercise regime with herniated disks. I know that can be tricky. Having the skin surgery will take off some pounds too. Good luck with the microcalcifications, as well. Never what you want to hear I know. Been there.

  6. Baa! I get it! Still not mentally ready to throw my plus size clothes catalogs away. Also a size 12 now but doesn't seem real.

Healthy ideas for me are kicking the carbs and sugars. They mess things up! Dessert is the devil, lol I'm trying to eat paleo as much as possible. My workout routine could use a boost, too.
    Stay Strong my friends.
    We got this!

  7. DE Area Bariatric Clothing Swap?

Does anyone know if there is a clothing swap for our area ? It would be nice to have if there is an interest - I know I have stuff that I'd like to swap out. I hear it's better not to buy too many things in each size since you'll keep getting smaller

  9. I'm from DE and have had the surgery Jan 25th. Anyone else from DE? I was curious about support groups or anyone local to me. I'm in lower Delaware. Thanks!

    Hi Cindyb15,

I'm a January 2016 DE Sleevr, too. I am living in Wilmington but visit Dover a lot.

Where are you located? How's it going for you?

  10. I had my thyroid removed at 48 for suspicious nodules it has been enlarged all my life and I have battled with weight all my life. Coincidence? I think not. I had to put my WLS on hold to address the thyroid but they had no problem going forward with the surgery later. This was only 3 months later. I've lost weight but I still think its harder for me due to the thyroid stuff. Regardless its definitely better now than before WLS.

  11. Hi GG123,

Not to rain on your parade or anything but I just returned from a cruise on Norwegian to Mexico, Belize and Honduras and got Canflybactor!! I was 3 months post op and since we were eating on the cruise ship I thought I would be safe. So wrong!!

Long story short it was miserable and my doc said the WLS probably made it worse. I wish I had known about the risk ahead of time which is why I am responding to your post. I love to travel and won't stop but I might consider taking along some antibiotics just in case. Oh and I''ll never travel with Norwegian either, lol

  12. I love to cruise but have not yet with my sleeve. What I do know you can preorder anything for a special diet. Do have plans to travel this summer on a cruise .

I tried to eat in the main dining rooms ordering healthier options and stayed away from the buffet when I could. I'm not a big drinker either nor is the rest of my family so didn't have that temptation. Just didn't think I'd get so sick. Its gonna be a long time before I go on another cruise!

  13. I can't address travel out of the country, but GI illness does seem to hit me harder now than before I had my VSG. I also have GI responses to stress, so it could be a combined effect when I get a stomach bug. I wonder if that's what you're dealing with. I hope you feel better soon.

I do travel a lot, but I haven't been out of the country since before my VSG. Travel in general was very difficult for the first several months. Are you pretty far out from surgery?

I am 3 mos post surgery but I had been doing great. The cruise food isn't a huge temptation so I wasn't worried about blowing things that way. Just wanted to spend some quality time with my family. It just never occurred to me that I would get sick like I did. It has taken me a full week to feel better, yikes! Just never saw this coming.
