    BC/BS Basic Federal

Hi, Teanne. Is your doctor a participating provider? I also have BCBS FEP Standard. The surgeon that I want to use is a non participating provider. With BCBS Standard the procedure will still be covered at 75% of billed charges and I will be responsible for the remaining 25% and the $300 deductible. If I go with a participating surgeon, BCBS will pay 90%. I really like this surgeon and his practice... so I think for peace of mind, I will go with him. I have my first appt. next Wed. I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long to get the surgery scheduled. Teanne, are you scheduled for surgery? May I ask where you live? I'm in Fairfax, VA. Thank you and good luck to all...

    Approved!!!!!

Congratulations, Elyssa! I'm almost there myself! Good luck with your procedure and be sure to update us.
  3. Hello, all. I'm new to this forum and just beginning to take steps toward actually being banded. I have researched the lap band process for years. Next week I'm attending a seminar and am very much looking forward to hearing all the details. I still need to check with my insurance carrier to see if they cover the procedure. I'm a little afraid to check, in case they don't. But, I want to do this so bad. I need to do this, in fact. I'm 46, 330 lbs at 5' 6" (there I said it!) I am so tired of being so tired. Like everyone here, I'm sure, I've tried every diet out there... have suceeded and failed more times then I can count. I'm so ready to get control of my weight and my life. Thank you to all who are posting here, your words of encouragement and honesty are welcome and I need all the empowerment I can read! :frown: Has anyone gone through BCBS FEP for their lapband? I'm curious what they cover and don't... if the 6 month pre-surgery diet is expected, etc. Any information on the process (both insurance and the banding) will be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all.
  4. Hello, Allykat. I'm also attending a seminar next week and have been researching lap-band for years. I have not, however, checked with my insurance carrier. I was going to wait to see what the seminar was like. I'm on the BCBS Federal Employees Plan in Washington, DC. I'm hoping that they will cover, but not certain. I would love to hear about your process and I'm so looking for encouragement... I am at my absolute highest weight at 330 lbs at 5'6". I'm 46 and feeling every pound. My back hurts all the time, my knees hurt...well, actually, at the end of each day, my entire body hurts! Hope all goes well for you and I look forward to checking in and seeing how it's all going.
