herfuture reacted to lsheshequin in 9 Months - 20 lbs from My Goal
I think mine qualifies as a success story . Yesterday was my 9 mth surgiversary and I am now at 169 lbs. That's a total loss of 82lbs from my HW, and 70lbs from my SW. My weight loss has been a slow but steady 1-2 lbs per week since November, and as long as it's coming off I'm ok with that. I still struggle with evening snacking (crunchy, salty snacks) but I've met with my dietitian and psychologist (both members of my bariatric team) and they've given me some good strategies for working on that. I've joined a gym and work with a personal trainer 2-4x per week and I'm finally starting to see some good results with that. Hopefully I can reach my goal of 150lbs by mid-summer. The pic below shows me at my heaviest and CW yesterday.

Just wanted to do an update. I am going on 7 weeks out. I am feeling so much better. So much more human. My energy is coming back. When I first started this post I thought time was standing still. It is amazing what a difference a few weeks can make. So happy with my sleeve. I am feeling so hopeful ???? these forums make things so much easier so thankful for them!

So glad you posted back with this update! The changes from day to day and week to week in the beginning are so huge. It drags out forever when you are living through it and then you look back and say "I can't believe that was ONLY 4 weeks ago!"

food doesn't taste bad to me I just don't want it. I don't crave food like I use too. I also use to be thirsty all the time and now I have to force myself to remember to get my Water in. It's crazy how I use to LOVE LOVE LOVE food and now it is a chore to eat. I'm so happy I made the decision to have the gastric sleeve. Because now I eat to live and no live to eat. I pack me Snacks that are good for me and am finally making better decisions.

Just some advice that has helped me get thru this phase. Stop looking to food to make you happy. Most of us had food addictions of some sort before surgery and food was a comfort and feel good mechanism. You really need to wrap your head around the whole eat to live and not live to eat mentality. That way you're just putting fuel in your body and not eating to make yourself happy.
This has been a hard thing for my wife and I. No matter what was happening good or bad we could always go out and eat and all was better. We have an argument and we would go out to lunch the next day to a favorite place to talk it out and enjoy a good meal. Now it just causes me stress because I am like no I brought my lunch I need to eat healthy. We had to find new ways to communicate and relate.
Once you are able to accept that food is not to make you happy but instead there to make you live, then you can get past nothing tasting good. I swear the old me would never eat the same thing 3 days in a row, now I can make something and make a weeks worth of lunch out of it and I am happy cause its healthy and fills me up with the Protein i need.

Starting at 326 lbs. last April, I could only dream of being 199 lbs. again for the last 30 years. It was a dream I never expected to come true. I'm so happy to say that I OFFICIALLY hit my goal this morning and cannot be happier with where this journey has taken me and what all it has taught me. Thanks to God, my family, doctors, friends, and nutritionists!!! Without all of them, this would have never happened or been this enjoyable of a story. Eating right and keeping a positive mind will never allow me to go back to the pain, both physically and mentally that I experienced for most of my adult life. I encourage anyone reading this that is thinking of surgery to talk with your doctor and look at its benefits. It's not the magic pill, but it is the tool to get you back in charge of your life.

Okay I decided since I've been basically the same weight for the last 6 months, I might be "done" losing scary thought, BUT I'm not going to change my ticker yet, as I still have an aspirational goal that I would like to someday achieve.
But I finally am putting up my before/after shots...It truly is astounding to see the difference!! (Click on them to see them larger)

They were sold out Saturday when I went too. It's a solid hour from my house, but not as bad as you! They told me it would be in tomorrow. I wonder if you can order quantities ahead like you can at the grocery store.....

Just short of 4 months post op and I'm just now starting to feel human. I still tire super easy. I know it will get better as I continue to work to my Protein goals. I still struggle with not getting enough Water or Protein. But all in all i'm healthier now than pre surgery for sure. I'm losing 2 lbs a week, i know it would be more if i could up my protein and exercise....i'm not perfect but each day is an opportunity to do better

You just had major surgery and are healing.
Keep sipping your Water and Protein and walk.
Also, when you are instructed to start taking Vitamins, do so. You are given a lot of Vitamins in the hospital which should hold you for a little while, but getting in your vitamins when it's appropriate will help with your energy.
Someone above said that the Protein is not as important as Water and I happen to disagree. I think they are both critical. You need both for healing.
Also, don't be afraid to rest and take it easy. You don't have to be at 100% right after surgery.
    You will feel better soon.

I was sleeved December 17, 2015. It's getting better but I'm with you on the weak and tired. Went to support group last week for the first time and it helped so much. Just being around others who understand. Not that my husband and family don't understand...it is different when you talk to others who have where you are.
They said to take it slow. You're only eating 400-500 calories if that. You're not going to feel like doing much for a few more week. Take your time to allow your body to heal.
So that's what I plan on doing. Be patient with yourself! We will get there. ????

I'm so weak today, got sleeved on the 30th, down 21lbs. I'm drinking and sipping Tomato Soup and Protein Shakes, but I feel like a sack of potatoes.... It's awful.

Weakness and fatigue are just a fact of life at this stage. You aren't getting in enough calories to sustain you. It gets SO MUCH better once you are able to eat solid foods and get more calories in.

Weakness was a huge issue for me. I came back to work after only 4 days post op. Talk about a struggle to stand and stay awake! I did find the more I walked, the better I felt and more energy I thought I had. Don't worry about getting in the "number" of Protein they give you. It's a guideline, not set in stone. I became very dehydrated after surgery...really struggled with muscle cramps in my legs. I started drinking small bits of pickle juice to get the sodium and potassium I needed.
Just keep going, you'll get there. It takes time. Rest when you can and get up and moving when you can. Not long distances, just anything you can tolerate. A couple laps around the house, the living room, etc.
