    May bypass group!

My RNY Bypass was May 10th and thought I would let everyone know how it went. Surgery was at 12:30 in the afternoon and I was released from hospital by 2:00 the next afternoon. I did a lot of walking the halls soon after surgery and I really think that helped. I actually felt better walking than I did sitting. I had no nausea or vomiting whatsoever and still have not. I used pain meds for a couple days. After that the pain was bearable. Mainly gas pains and walking definitely helps with that. I have had no trouble getting all my water in, but I do sip all day long. The hardest part has been keeping on the schedule of meds, food, protein drinks and liquids. Took me a bit to get my meds straight and figure out the best schedule for me. I'll be glad when I can stop some of the meds. Honestly - I can't believe how well I have done. I feel great, walking the neighborhood. Going to the drug store today to pick up some things, my first venture out alone. I am thankful for my amazing talented surgeon! Don't be afraid, it's never as bad as you think it might be. For me, it wasn't bad at all. Hope you all have great results!!

    Nausea with vitamins

I haven't had my surgery yet. I take the Celebrate Multi Vitamin with Iron and every time I take it - about 5 min later I get a wave of nausea but it quickly passes. I'm hoping that's not going to be worse after surgery!
  5. My surgery is May 10th too. My pre-op is Clear liquids only with 3 Protein drinks a day for 2 wks. Half way through now and so far doing good. Good luck with your surgery - it's so exciting to be getting so close!

    Bypass at 65 years

@@SusanB55, we have some things in common. I will be 56 in June, my surgery date is May10th (but I am having bypass) and I am also 5'5". Good luck to you! @@Gaylene Davison - my surgeon told me he had a 74yo woman who was very healthy and she had the surgery with no complications at all. I don't know if she had sleeve or RNY but he said she was an exception and he would not as a rule perform WLS on someone that age. It just depends on their health and motivation. How are you feeling as your surgery date gets closer? Honestly, I am scared to death and at times, I feel like backing out. We are leaving for hubby's surgery is 10 minutes. I feel nauseous. To be perfectly honest, I am not nervous at all at this point. Met with my surgeon today, he is one of the best and I have complete confidence in him and everyone I talk to raves about him. I was nervous for months when I was trying to decide if I was doing the right thing or not but once my decision was made - no longer nervous. Just so excited to make this change to better my health. Let me know how your hubby makes out - I'm sure both of you will do great!

  8. I can't even imagine how frustrated you are! I haven't heard back on my bloodwork yet so now I am also nervous. I should find out tomorrow when I meet with the surgeon. I really hope things move along as fast as possible for you, hang in there!
  9. I am having bypass on May 10th. Today is my 6th day on the pre-op liquid diet and so far it has not been nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I'm really not hungry but have occasional bouts of the munchies - you know, when you wander in the kitchen just looking around for something to eat. When that happens I have a Protein drink and it goes away. I'm getting so excited as the surgery date gets closer! I live in Maryland - not too far from you!

I WISH I could quit Facebook because it really does take up too much of my time, and time I certainly don't need to spend sitting. However, I would feel completely cut off from my family and friends as most of them seldom talk by phone because they put everything on FB! It's a sad sign of our times. I am envious that you were able to.

    May?

This is day 5 of pre-op liquid diet and still doing good. No more headaches. Not really hungry but now understand what "head hunger" is. Saw a pizza delivery guy on way home from work yesterday and thought OMG how I'd love to have pizza, but then asked myself if I was really hungry and the answer was no. It's just habit that we want foods we love whether hungry or not. I actually think now that this 2 week preparation is good for me to get in the right mindset. May 10th will be here before I know it!
