thenewandbestme reacted to Miss Mac in What digital brand of scale do you have?
I have a Health O Meter digital body fat scale that I bought at Walmart. It tracks several values for up to four people. I have had this one for two years, and it has stayed right on with the scale at my doctor's office.

My surgery was 12/1, the gurgling has been a huge concern of mine. No matter how small of a sip I took my stomach would rumble and jeeeez it was painful. Thankfully today it's a lot better than it has been which is awesome cause I can finally drink without fear. It's getting a little bit better every day, I just wish I could fast forward a week!

same here...I was sleeved on 12/2. My stomach makes a gurgling sound everytime I consume something. I am supposed to consume 32 ounces of skim or 1% milk and 32 ounces of Clear liquids daily. It is a constant struggle but Im sure in time it will get better. I also have diarrhea which is something the nurse told me I would have for a few days. The pain meds don't help with incision pain so I don't even take them. If I need to take any pain meds I just use Tylenol. This surgery is a new outlook for us but it is not the easy way out.

I was also sleeved on the 3rd. It's been a work in progress. The gas gets stuck and my stomach spasms all the time. I have been really trying to get the Protein Shakes in but the seem to cause a lot more gas than anything else. This is definitely not the easy way out.

Getting in my Protein is near impossible. It makes me gag. I'm trying to mix vanilla Protein in to my vanilla Greek yogurt to get some in but, ugh. I had to stop my pain meds because the taste was making me gag, so now I'm sore and crabby.
I got in about 40 oz of fluids in so far today, which is a huge improvement. Earlier today I was worried I'd have to take a trip to the hospital for an IV. I'm pretty sure my veins have shriveled up and died.
I've been super weak and fatigued but the gurgling in my stomach is lessening day by day which is making it easier to eat. I had planned on going back to work tomorrow but there's just no way I can do it. I'm so looking forward to puréed foods on the 15th!
I knew what to expect before the surgery but man, I had no idea how hard it'd be. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has absolutely no idea how hard it is.

Most of your stomach has been surgically removed. There is a long incision line... liquids should be common sense post surgery. The incision needs to heal. Solid foods and the digestion process are too rough on the incision line.

Beautiful day in Haslet,TX, a little windy but it's nice. This is one of the large blouses my hubby bought me the other day. Pants are size 14, I actually had them for over 5 years and with tags, I remember buying them cause I really liked them and until now they fit!! I'm 5 days away from being 4 months post op and weighing today 192.

I HAD to chew something after my surgery. I chewed up some pickles and spit them out.
    It helped.
    Hahaha. Whatever works.

Thanks all for the responses.. I hope good things continue for all of us on this path. I've only taken Tylenol so far since the percocet make my mouth Water.. Almost like to much booze. lol..
@turbomom22.. yeah, same thing here. I love the eas carb control shakes and like you, my morning starts off great, then a bit of churning and winds down and ends up pretty good by bedtime. My worst day was definitely surgery day. The anesthesia and no Water thing in the hospital was a killer and those swabs did nothing but cause frustration. I felt like I had the worst hangover ever and could not find the cat that crapped in my mouth while I was out..
I'm still amazed that I went through with the surgery and never thought I'd be on the losers bench despite being a full time loser
Typically today I would have started off with a couple of big coffees followed some type of breakfast.. Then a full day of picking before strapping on the feed bag for the turkey extravaganza. Let's not forget boozing and football. Would probably be about 20 beers deep by now.. Oh and the next game is starting, so might as well eat again and then some desert.
BUT my big treat today was a sugar free popsicle and some Optifast chicken Soup. I'm still pretty satisfied with Protein shakes and some type of water even though the dogs look a bit tasty, especially that little chubby one..lol..No wait, that would have been pre-banana. Think I'll have a glass of milk and hopefully I can produce an outburst of throat/mouth gurgles that make my family crack up. Glad I can be of some benefit for their enjoyment.

Hi Guys and Gals, Mark here and 4 days post op.. Is that right, surgery on Monday the 23rd at 9 am and today is the 26th? Does surgery day count as day 1 or is the day after surgery day 1?
Feeling pretty good, mostly restriction pain when swallowing and having to get used to it and some gas pain. One thing I've found is that Water hurts more going down than Protein shakes or milk. Anyone else experience that?
I woke up early and had about 12 ounces of Water and then half hour later, had a EAS Carb control Protein shake for Breakfast, my real first attempt at created a schedule. I'm okayed for Protein Shakes and stuff as long as they aren't too thick. Been sticking with pre-made for now mostly. Anyway, this eas drink was 11 ounces and it went down smoothly and pain free in about 10 minutes. I thought with the "angry banana" only holding 3 or 4 ounces that I wouldn't be able to get it all in but no problem. Sips of water a half hour later hurt going down.
    Sound right to you guys?
Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving!

Elastic waistbands are my friend. I love them the transition between sizes is easier with them. Especially the stretchy fabrics.

Since I used to be a "serial dieter" for many years, I have all sorts of clothes ranging through three or four different sizes. It was difficult to get rid of anything because I always felt that I would fail and end up wearing them again at some point - which I did. The pair of pants I put on today, I have had for about four years. It is so nice to put the size 20's away and start embracing the 18's. It almost feels like I have a brand new wardrobe!
I have been up and down for many years, so I bought a lot of my clothes at thrift stores, especially jeans and work pants. I also would take advantage of the great sales that Old Navy has since they carried a lot of the bigger sizes. I have a lot of cute sweaters and tops in the smaller sizes, so I cannot wait to get there!

I'm like @@ShrinkingPeach - I lose in different areas. My upper body goes first, then my waist and my hips last. My solution is just elastic waist skirts and dresses. It's easier to get more wear out of things that way. I started at a 30/32 and I have clothes on hand up to a size 16. Now that I'm at a size 18 I have to pick up a few things here and there, but since I'm still losing I don't want to spend a lot. On my skirts I'm just tightening the elastic. Otherwise I take advantage of sales. So far I'm spending between $2 - $10 on new garment. The lone exception is workout wear but they get used the most so I don't mind.

I am so glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm in between sizes to and I'm more comfortable in baggy than sausage casing. Lol

I recently had the very same problem. My size 16 jeans were so loose and baggy so I went down to a 14. The first two weeks the 14s were so tight on my waist. I even unbuttoned them at work and in the car when I was sitting down lol! Now they are comfortable and even starting to feel loose. I think it's just because they stretch as you wear them. I know my 16s were stretched out so they were looser on me than a brand new pair would have been.

As others said above, it could be a few different things. But, enjoy it! This will not be the last pair of jeans you buy on this journey. 7 months out, not one thing I had in my closet before surgery is still in there. Pants, tops, bras, underwear, shoes... they are all going to be replaced. Give it a week or two and those jeans that are a little tight will feel looser. My advice is when you are dropping sizes is to buy a little tight in the beginning. They will last you longer. Because trust me, it goes FAST! Good luck!

I also find that I lose the weight faster in some areas than others. My waist is the last to change as I go and this makes the sizing a bit different. I go down a size and it will be lose in my legs but tight in the waist for example. This crazy post-op life!

So pre-op I was wearing size 20 jeans and pants. I'm five weeks post-op this week and found my pants baggy around the waist and literally falling down and I felt I was looking sloppy at work.
This morning I brought out a pair of size 18 jeans to wear and I put them on without any trouble - the only problem is they feel a little tight around the waist and it gives me a little muffin top. Don't get me wrong, they look good and they fit pretty well. I just don't understand how sizing down just one size makes such a huge difference.
I went from loose & baggy to sausage casing! The catch.. they are the same jeans from the same store, just one size down.

I've never had this happen but after a long discussion in another thread, we came to the unscientific conclusion that maybe Probiotics help prevent it. My nutritionist had me on probiotics before I even had my surgery and many others in the thread reported that they never had this problem and took probiotics daily or they had this problem until they started taking probiotics daily. So, if you aren't on probiotics already, you might want to give then a try and see if that helps at all.

It only happened once to me. I was at work but luckily it was after business hours and I was with friends helping to decorate my office. I ended up just having to throw my boxers away and go commando.
Now for the bad news? After the diarrhea stage there comes the Constipation stage. You may go weeks without a bowl movement. I once went 3 1/2 weeks without one and when it finally happened it felt like my entire digestive tract was cramping. I actually threw up while on the pot. My solution? I've found that if I take gentil laxatives once a week then I can go without the pain and cramping.
