@@Anthrogeeke Both surgeries are effective tools for weight loss. RNY is considered "the gold standard" by many surgeons, as it has been around much longer and they have been able to track its effectiveness over a longer period of time than the sleeve. The sleeve is less invasive, but the % of average weight lost with RNY surgery is slightly higher than the sleeve. The RNY is reversible in some circumstances. The sleeve is not. The sleeve is not necessarily a good choice for anyone who has a problem with acid reflux. It's not easy wondering if you are making the "right" choice, but at the end of the day, you have to do what you are comfortable with. For me, I chose the sleeve simply because it is less invasive. It may not be the best reason, but that was how I arrived at my decision. Good luck!

there are probably 5 million threads about this, many different opinions. I chose the sleeve because I didn't want the unused part of my stomach just hanging around in my body with no way to access it if there are any issues. I also did not like the idea of the malabsorption aspect and the extra supplements you will need. Also did not want to deal with dumping (yes it can also happen with the sleeve but less common). For me I liked the idea of just making your stomach smaller much better than the idea of the rerouting that goes with the bypass. Also my surgeon and I talked about the options and he suggested the sleeve

Miso Soup, egg drop soup, pureed bean soup...

Panera was my go to place. They were happy to strain any soup for me that I requested and I felt like I was eating something "normal" after almost 2 weeks of Protein shakes, Jello and Popsicles.

Egg drop soup! Strain or puree, it was heavenly. Felt like a "real food" treat.

@nyseness. I have heard tastes change after surgery so I just stocked up on bottled Water and strawberry kiwi propel powder and unflavored Protein powder. My program requires us to drink Boost so I have tons of that. My pre op diet is 4 Boost shakes a day and chicken broth and flavored water.

one thing I have invested in is some small ramekins - about the size around of a coffee cup and then if I am having something warm I put it on a cup warmer so that it warms up the ramekin and keeps my food the right temperature. has saved a few dishes for me.

This was me last Thursday (6/9) morning before checking in for my sleeve. I weighted 312 at my 1st surgical appointment and 289 the morning of surgery. Right now I'm home trying to get all of my fluids and Protein in. It's so hard.
