Great moments! Fit in the booth. No seat belt extender. Too small to shop the Big and Tall store anymore. Sit on the floor AND get up without a crane. One more carrot I'm chasing...graduating from my CPAP.

I started at 515, sleeved july 15 (laparoscopically by a robot!). I too had 4 weeks of liquid pre op, worst...time...ever... I felt like an addict going through withdrawl, oh wait, I was! Very fast recovery. I have only felt weak twice, too long a period of time in between eating, and not enough Protein. I started Water aerobics 3 months post op. At 6 months, Dr. said "out of the pool!" I do aerobics/Zumba 3x per week, Weights, jogging a lap in between sets 2x-3x per week. Am jogging/walking a 5 k May 1. Rode my bike for the first time in 20 years last sunday. FEEL GREAT, don't LOOK too bad either! In 8 lbs I will break into the 200's. Ye-F-ing-Ha. I still have 100 to go, but the task doesn't seem so daunting now. Good luck, and keep us posted as to your successes and challenges.

It sounds like a low blood pressure problem... you might be low in sodium or electrolytes.... try having some Gatorade/Powerade... see if that helps
Also, 1 litre a day is not enough... you should aim for 2

Today was my 8-month follow-up appointment with my surgeon. As chance would have it, today is also the day that I dropped below 300 lbs. At 518 less than a year ago, I could not have imagined it back then.

DavidOso got a reaction from skmjs in Anyone else thinking prematurely to get rid of fat clothes
I too had the multi-sized wardrobe that I have been "shopping" out of for most of this past year. I organized it in descending sizes, and as I shrunk out of a size, off to the thrift store they went. The favorite sweaters and a perfectly broken in leather jacket were hard to let go of...but go they did. I could weep at the money I have given away, but then the tears of JOY start for what I have accomplished. The thing that is nice about the descending sizes is enjoying what currently fits, but casting my eye towards what is coming up in several more lbs lost!

DavidOso got a reaction from UpandAtom in I have got about a billion questions
One of the most helpful tools for me was/is a daily journal; food-w/grams Protein and Fluid (THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS), exercise, when I ate/drank, how I felt, sleep patterns, etc. By being 100% honest with myself, I could look back and find patterns and trends-both good and bad. I track daily; protein, calories, fluid, steps, calories burned, and weight. I weigh myself every morning, naked, after I pee (hey, Water is heavy!). It is only a number. It's just a number that helps me track my progress. I then put all these numbers into an Excel spreadsheet, a month at a glance. A helpful tool for me and for the doctors at follow up visits. Good luck and keep us posted!

@@Gripp, one of my chefs in culinary school told me once,"Never tell them what you are going to make, only tell them what you have made." (This must be said with a THICK German accent!) Please remember, this is YOUR journey, it is being done for your health (emotional and physical). Your improved health means you will be around MUCH longer, and therefore able to positively impact other's lives. If the haters out there want you to die young and not influence your grandchildren's lives, then by all means, listen to them. I chose NOT to listen, and have lost 238 lbs in a year post sleeve. I am healthier now than I was just out of college. Please follow your heart, no one else's! Good luck.

I like to mix crab meat with just a dollob of Greek yogurt, horseradish, and of course the egg yolks.
I season it with Old Bay crab spice and lemon.
    YUM!
You could use a bit of mayo, if you don't like the yogurt.
    Enjoy!!!

DavidOso reacted to Kindle in How severe was your hair loss?
I never had any hairloss. Never took Biotin or used special hair products. Basically just exceeded Protein goals (60-80g/day) and took a whole food based Multivitamin.
But really, There's nothing you can do to prevent it. If it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. Hairloss is just your body's reaction to the stress of surgery. But remember, mental stress can do the same thing, so worrying about it may just make it happen. I never fretted about it because 1) there's nothing I could do about it anyways, 2) it's just temporary, and 3) I was actually looking forward to shaving my head and wearing funky hats. But instead my hair is longer and thicker than it's ever been.

Really? The vast majority of the post surgery posts have been positive. Most of the problems have been self inflicted. It's a risk, but so is being overweight.
    BTW, @@Dashofpixiedust8 Congrats. great job.

Even 2.5 years post-op and down 150 pounds, I still have all my fat clothes in the basement. I'm hoping I never need them but am having difficulty due to the effort needed to buy nice clothes in those sizes. Still, that's no excuse and I just decided that it's time to let go.

@@DavidBC, I too started in 5 x. My one year "surgiversary" is coming up later this month. I have gotten rid of 4, count 'em 4 of the X's in my clothes. Now an xl. Looking forward to just being an "L". I haven't been an L since college! I have lost 238 lbs so far and am really eyeing my goal. I am beginning to think my goal weight will be a post plastics weight. I will discuss this with my surgeon at the one year follow up. Great job on your loss, both the pounds and the "X"!

Attend a free seminar, touch the brochure, look around the room, there will be people of all shapes and sizes. From this meeting to a surgery date usually averages around nine months. This is NOT a quick fix. This requires A LOT of thought. That being said, I was like you, big, but healthy, but not forever. I chose the sleeve because it was the right fit for me. Do your research, ask questions, and the right choice for you will present itself. Good luck.

I would recommend against lapband. Many doctors are no longer performing this operation. The individual that I knew who had a lapband had it removed and had a revision to RNY gastric bypass. This was because the band was wearing into his stomach and it was about to rupture. That was an extremely dangerous situation. There are many forms of bariatric surgery today such as RNY gastric bypass, the gastric sleeve, duodenal switch. These are a much better choice. I would also recommend finding a bariatric surgery center of excellence in your area. This is like a one stop shop. Everything in one location. You might do an internet search to find one that is close.

The bariatric clinic I used for my RNY no longer does the lap band due to long term problems with that technology, so that alone indicates the need to get multiple opinions on lap band. Many on this site loved it but many have had to get the band removed and sleeve/RNY or other options done.
Here is "old guy" advice. Get something done. I did not have any obesity related obvious medical problems until I was almost 55, then they started, mobility, diabetes, edema, heart problems, etc. I waited. Glad I had something done, because at 65 years old all those things are either 90% better or gone, but boy do I wish I had done this at your age. I do mourn the loss of activities for some of those decades -- the hikes I did not go on, the restaurants I could not go to because all they had was booths, the times my kids wanted to do major sports and I couldn't. Now, I can do those things with grandkids, so life is good.....
