    Veggies Anyone?

My surgery is tomorrow so I have no post op eating experience per say however when I told my dr I was a vegetarian for years he told me great go back to it! He is über healthy himself and follows a bariatric diet himself although he's never been heavy. He said he himself is a vegetarian and said getting protein from places other than meat is fine. I'm excited to see how this goes. Wish me luck!!
  2. I'm having bypass Monday 8/29 my surgeon wants all women who have periods to take multivitamin with iron. Most take flintstones chewable. I have found that I CAN NOT take them. Because I can not have a bowel movement while on them. I've had lifelong issues with constipation I'm already taking Linzess, pro biotics, stool softeners and benefiber. With the vitamins I TMI alert-went 5 days without going then when I did I strained for over an hour with rock hard stool and I actually bled. YIKES!! Talked to pharmacist and she said the easier o digest iron is extended release so probably won't work for bypass pts. Yes I will talk to my dr after Monday but I just wondered has anyone had these same problems with iron and if so what did you do? Bye-I am 51 yo so shouldn't even get my period much longer and my blood work has never shown low iron before.

    Buddy...anyone?

I'm sorry you are struggling. I'm having bypass on 8/29 but I'd love to help you any way I could.
  4. Hi all I'm 51 yo. Having bypass on 8/29. So excited to start my new life. Obviously scared too. Never been under general anesthesia and I'm terrified of vomiting haven't done it in 5+ yrs. so praying for no nausea after surgery. I'm on metformin( pre diabetic) but pretty healthy otherwise. Hoping for safe surgery and fast recovery. I'd love to hear from you who've had this done before.

    Alcohol.

My dr says to wait a year and that sounds about right to me. Your new tummy needs time to heal. Adding alcohol to it too soon after surgery seems like a bad idea. In addition the empty calories go against getting the most you can out of the short honeymoon phase.

    August Bypass Buddies!

I was going to go get some gas x because that's what everyone talks about. But I actually like the taste of Tums so I think I'd prefer these. My surgery is 8/29 and I'm worried about the gas pains. Glad to hear you're feeling better.
  7. Just confirmed today that RNY will be August 29th!! So excited!!!

Bypass as well. I'm glad everything went well for you with Dr Tishler I just had never met him and I was already comfortable with Dr Tousiant so wanted to stay with him. I quit smoking(after 35 yrs heavy smoking!) two weeks ago in preparation for surgery. Feel so much better already. Lol if you don't mind my asking why do you say that you were a difficult case?
  9. I agree CowgirlJane. I see nothing wrong with asking for replies from veterans only. Sometimes they are the only ones qualified to understand what you are going through. To think that this is "discriminating" against newbies is.....a stretch at best. I rarely post on here preferring to learn from what others ask/post. I haven't seen newbies being picked on or judged as much as they get offended when they don't like the replies they get. I'm 8 days post op and so weak with hunger I HAD to have a few bites of bacon/pasta/steak ect. Then when a veteran takes the time to explain why this was dangerous/foolish ect the op gets defensive when they dislike the answers given. Sigh. Sometimes? Tough love, honest answers, the TRUTH is what's called for. If you don't like someone's reply to your question ignore it. But don't tell all our veterans that have walked before us and have the experience we so desperately need that they are the problem. After 5months of daily reading this site it seems like people get upset if they get a reply that isn't all sunshine and roses. Just my opinion.

Did you have bypass or sleeve? How has your recovery been going? I received insurance approval last week so just waiting for dr to call me this week to make final arrangements. Took longer than expected because my dr moved from Norwich when I was 5 months into 6 month supervised wt loss. I chose to follow Dr. Tousiant rather than stay in network with a Dr I hadn't met before( Dr Tishler). So I'm excited, nervous all of the above. [emoji3]

    Advice from ex smokers?

Tomorrow will be two weeks smoke free for me after 35 + yrs of heavy smoking. If I can do this so can you! I do use a zero nicotine evape pen. And I feel like it helps me with the whole ritual of smoking. I can see where maybe I won't always need it but for right now? It's helping me. This is longest I have ever gone quitting and I feel good. First week was rough but now the smell of smoke disgusts me. Keep yourself focused on why you are doing this-to get healthier to qualify for surgery. You can do this! Good luck. [emoji3]
