Is the Lap Band just a placebo?

Gary, I have felt the same way you have before - dead serious. Of course once I got my fills all set I realized there was a band in me and boy did it set me straight fast. I do have control of my hunger now, I do need to watch what I eat and how to eat it - ugh - that can be painful some days if I am not careful. Regardless of how you have lost the weight in the past few months that is absolutely amazing! that is a lot of weight to lose for sure. Keep your chin up, get your fills, have faith - really, I know it sounds corney, but again I really felt the same way you do.

    Bass recipe

I took a fillet of Bass (I caught it this fall myself  put creamed spinach and feta in the center, rolled it up (it will ooze out) and held it together by a tooth pick, a little bit of butter on top, throw in oven and bake! Yummy

    Sample Menus

I have diverticulitis that is only active if I eat corn kernels - so I haven't had corn on the cob, canned, creamed or pop corn for over 4 years now...

    Hot Chicken Dip

    This sounds fabulous!!
  5. I find myself after a year and a half trying to still eat bread and it simply doesn't work. Finally I am giving it up - not because I think it is bad for you as a normal non banded person, simply because my banded body just won't tolerate it. So, I went to the grocery store and luckily for me I own every low carb book there is so it wasn't a stretch to remember what foods I needed. Tonight it is taco salad (minus the taco), I have forgotten how good this can be. I am starting a new job this week and the breaks are different than what I am use to after five years at my other job. Here you cannot have random food at your desk, small Snacks are ok so I have prepared for this. I feel more in control than I have in a long time and it was wonderful tonight to eat and not have food getting stuck due to my "bread" choices :w00t:
  6. I haven't posted in such a long time but I was thinking of you:)

    I've been loving these salads!!!

I made this salad tonight for dinner and it was wonderful - taco chips? who needs them! I used ground turkey with taco seasoning, it was fantastic :w00t:

    Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!

I am torn to be honest. Part of me would like to be indignant and incessant that a restaurant should accommodate me. But, I also know they do not have to...do I wish they would? Sure! Will it determine if I come back again? Yup! I guess for myself (not slamming others!!!) I just try to understand whether I like it or not. It is what is and that is all there is to it.

  12. Thank you for your compliment on my pictures :) Sorry for the late reply.

  13. Hello all, I had my lap band surgery done on June 16, 2008 and a port revision done November 19,2008. I started at 226 lbs and now weigh 195. The majority of the weight came off before the surgery during my two week liquid diet. I would like to hit 135 as a high goal weight, but at this point I am focusing on breaking through 190. I have refocused and started tracking my foods more carefully and really trying to be more accountable. I have my 4th fill this month on the 22nd - hopefully that will get me just right. Anyways, just wanted to share and introduce myself
  14. Well, after much discussion and worry with my surgeon I am having a lap band port revision. I am happy with this even though it will be on November 19th - only 5 months after my original surgery- you see, my port bonks against my ribs causing me considerable pain. So, we have the day and the insurance will pay - thank god. I will be out from the 19th of November until the Friday after Thanksgiving and then of course I will have that weekend as well. I am finally at a point with only 2 fills where I have great restriction and am finally losing weight, I will be all set after this surgery is competed. Wish me luck and feel free to tell me about your port revision :smile2:

  18. Ugh, my weight is stuck and I am frustrated, I need to get my ass in gear and start exercising consistently!

  19. Hi you asked if I edit my pictures, I do not do anything to them except change them to black and white - other than that nothing at all. :)

    I can't decide

My packet asked the same thing, for me it was a simple yes to the band because I wouldn't have qualified for the gastric band. I have also seen my Aunt and her daughter have gastric and have seen them both have a lot of complications, but then again I have had issues with my port (now resolved) where their issues are not resolved still after so long. I guess I would research and research some more, talk to the surgeon and ask his/her opinion. Regardless it will be a challenging but worthwhile decision! Good luck
