  1. I'm in Stafford! My surgery is scheduled for 2/17. I'm at Fair Oaks too - and really really hoping for a private room, yikes! I don't think I've ever shared a hospital room.

How are you doing? Did you get a private room?

Thank you for checking in! Yes! I requested one during the pre-op work and was told "we'll see...I don't know how many they have..." but you were right that there seemed to be a ton! I only saw one or two shared rooms and they were so small...I would have lost my mind!

  2. Wonder what it is with the left side that causes pain and so much discomfort. I've heard this by a few others as well. Interesting.

Baby steps. I think your doing great so far! Stinks bending is the worst. I have a paralyzed dog that I need to bend over to manually express to pee 3x a day! This is gonna be very interesting. My biggest concern about me doing this!

My surgeon told me it is because that incision was where he did the most manipulation. None of my other incisions hurt at ALL. Just that one! You could use a walking stick or cane to help you ease yourself to sitting or kneeling to help your dog or you may even find that you can bend just fine. I'd definitely have a backup plan just in case :)

  3. Hi Dawn! So glad to hear from you and to know all is good with you! Did you stay with the bypass? How is your pain? Are you able to move much? Glad your home!

Yes, I had bypass :) pain is manageable! Left side hurts the most & especially after standing or sitting up for more than 10 minutes or so. I take a small walk every day and have to use the bathroom frequently so I'm up & down stairs a lot too. Bending over is the worst so I try very hard to limit it!

    @@NewLife1985 thank you so much!

  4. First let me say that I'm not *really* hungry. I know it's in my head. But another week of liquids may cause me to lose my mind. I've been eating approved organic low fat cream Soups to help.

My RNY was 2-17 and I am following my surgeon's plan to the letter so please know I have no plans to cheat...I know the risks and they are obviously not worth it.

I guess my questions are - what got you through this first of many mental battles? What were your go-to liquids post-op?

    Thank you!

  5. Hi guys, thanks for checking on me! I had surgery in 2/17! I was in the hospital for 2 nights and have been home now for 2.5 days.

Biggest hurdle in hospital was the transition from IV pain meds to oral pain meds. Way less potent and tasted gross but definitely still needed.

I haven't had too much trouble at home...gas moved out after a night of cramps, I'm moving around better each day, and even took a little walk outside today. I'm able to get my Water & Protein in with no problems so I'm very thankful for that.

  6. Had PCOS for 20 years prior to surgery and now 13 months post op - almost all the symptoms are gone!

Facial hair only half as bad as it was before, i have regular periods (blech), no painful cysts, still a little big around the middle, but much better! no acne, I took Biotin for 4 months prior to surgery to help with hair thinning and i think it made a huge difference so I still take it! My A1C levels are normal too!

so I would think that anyone with PCOS should see things get much better.

    Thank you for the hope!

Did anyone else regularly take PPIs (medium, Prilosec etc)-I just read that they can cause magnesium deficiency which can cause PCOS. I started taking PPIs and my PCOS symptoms started after that. Could be coincidence but something to watch. Hopefully no more PPIs after surgery & just overall better health :)

I have PCOS complete with thinning hair, carrying my wait around my middle, skin/acne issues, and irregular/nonexistent periods. I am also almost 3 months post op. My hair is still thin, my middle is getting smaller, but still carry my weight there, my acne has nearly completely cleared, but that started when I gave up Diet coke. About 5 years ago my periods went away for 2 years and when they returned, they were and are completely regular although heavier than before.

That may sound like all bad news so far, but my hair hasn't gotten any thinner so I have hope. My tummy is getting smaller and my acne is gone for the first time since childhood. I have hope! I have come to accept that my hair may get thinner, but then it might come back thick again like when I was younger!

I have heard from many people that the surgery has helped and it hasn't made anything worse yet, including my periods being right on schedule even days after surgery so things are looking hopeful.

I'm in the same boat. ❤️ Glad you're doing well!

  7. @ Thank you times a million for this answer. I feel so similar. My rny is in four days.

I was trying to explain this to my mom - that I just have this bottomless pit of hunger that never feels satisfied. I cannot wait to not be hungry. To be satisfied and satiated after a few bites of something wonderful.

I'm really nervous and excited but your post really brought home what I am feeling and what I hope my results are as well :)

  8. Friday's news was less than ideal, but I did leave out a HUGE piece of info that goes with my original post:

After Dari had a conference call with UHC Friday morning, she emailed me later and said that after much discussion with the VP of HR and their UHC rep, they are going to waive the 6 month waiting period. So whenever I am actually approved, I'll be able to schedule my surgery almost immediately (have to allow 2 weeks for preop diet).

I'm in much higher spirits today and have enjoyed some time away this weekend to get my mind off of things.

Thanks again for everyone's support and kind words.

My file SHOULD BE submitted this week....finally. So I will update whenever I hear something :)

    That is wonderful news! WOOHOO!
