Pre-op, how much did you lose?
RNYDawn replied to MKJohnson15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on Day 7 and have lost 9.8 lbs in 6 days. I'm hoping for another 6 or so (for about 15) before surgery but if I only lose another few, that's okay too. -
Hope you're recovering well!

@@newmebithebypass I had my last NUT visit today and also met with my surgeon one last time! My NUT gave me the green light for chicken breast, vegetables, a hard boiled egg, and a little fat such as olive oil for oil/vinegar salad dressing on a salad. I am sooooooo freaking happy. I have to revert back to liquids on Monday to give myself 2 full days to get any food out of my system. Another interesting thing - my surgeon also did my endoscopy and found no evidence of Barrett's Esophagus that my other doctor found. He said I could have another endoscopy to check one more time and if I truly didn't have it, I could have the sleeve instead. But I said my mind was made up and I really wanted the RNY!

Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe what I currently feel...

Oh no I'm so sorry! Totally not fair!! -
I am staying strong but please, send me some of your pre-op diet success stories of peering through! Surgery is 2-17. I can have: 3 Bariatric Advantage shakes, 2 BA bars, a cup of 1% milk, 1 banana, up to 24 oz of broth, & up to 3 sf jellos or Popsicles per day. The BA shakes are not good. I tried using flavored liquid stevia with them but it made them sickeningly sweet. I tried blending with ice. The only good combo was a chocolate shake with half a frozen banana & 4oz of milk/4oz Water, blended with ice. I can't even choke down chicken broth on day 2! I've heard it gets easier after day 3 so please tell me how you got through it! I have 12 more days of this. It seriously sucks but I'm not giving into my temptations (which is pretty much anything!) ????

What made you choose this surgery vs others?
RNYDawn replied to bigjim1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is the same experience I had. I am totally okay with it! -
I had to get the PCP letter too. Considering I had used Patient First as my PCP for about 8 years, I was a little nervous! My surgeon's office referred me to a wonderful PCP that is right down the street from me and I made an appointment with them before my insurance clock started ticking. I got a flu shot had them do my EKG, talked to the doctor about my attempts at weight loss and said that I was in the beginning stages of the weight loss surgery process. I said that I'd need a letter of recommendation from her if she was comfortable but understood if she wanted to see me more before she wrote it. She laughed and said she'd do whatever I needed. She had to do the recommendation letter as well as a medical clearance letter right before my approval was submitted.

Mind playing tricks 9 days pre-op
RNYDawn replied to Pedro Valle-Inclan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the same thoughts. And they go right back to what you mentioned: losing and gaining and losing and gaining. I can't do it anymore. No matter the support around us, we have shown we cannot succeed long term without more help. I totally understand as I assume many on here do. Your surgery is five days before mine and I look forward to cheering you on! -

RNYDawn replied to sassyfrass23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I know I would have been calling all the time too - mostly because my coordinator is overwhelmed and has a lot of patients so I wouldn't have gotten a fast response Oh and I'm impatient. Thanks for all of the updates. We are all rooting for you! I hope that your surgeon can escalate the surgery so you don't have to wait another six months. Big hugs! -
Today is my first day without caffeine. I've been weaning off of it slowly - I went from less regular to half-caf to less half-caf to decaf. No headache so far today which I think is a good sign but could mean I'm in for a whopper headache tonight/tomorrow. I don't think I will go back to having caffeine after surgery. It will feel great to break free of another habit/addiction!

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
RNYDawn replied to Sunshine8946's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I started my pre-op diet today - surgery is on the 17th. My surgeon's office uses Bariatric Advantage. I can have 3 shakes, 2 bars, up to 24 oz of broth, up to 3 sugar free jellos or popsicles, and one banana a day. Plus a ton of Water of course. I tried adding coffee extract to my chocolate shake. Mistake. The extract just made it taste like dirt. I choked it down. I tried adding sweet drops root beer (stevia) to my vanilla shake. Mistake. I added too much and I'm gagging because it's just too sweet. The good news is that the chocolate Peanut Butter Bariatric Advantage bars are not bad. I believe I will be blending the strawberry shake as-is to avoid above mistakes. My delicious find in all of this is Crystal Light Cherry Lime drops - soooo good in water and crushed ice...almost like a sonic slushie All of this comes out to just over 1000 calories per day. Lord give me strength! -
Frustrated! Why is BCBS (FED) saying they havent received my package
RNYDawn replied to NewLife1985's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am so happy that they have it! WOOHOO! Mine showed up the next day I think but the insurance rep said they hadn't received many faxes so that is why it happened quickly. Some people get fast approvals and some take the whole 14 days. Fingers crossed that you find out soon. I bugged them almost every day (they were so nice). -

Approvals with BCBS Federal
RNYDawn replied to rln52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For my plan on BCBS FEP, they only needed one weight from each year. So if you have weights that are still at 35 or above then you should be just fine. Your coordinator will help walk you through it too. My weight fell below the BMI threshold with no co-morbidities (40 BMI) in previous years but I only sent my coordinator weights that were over 40 BMI - does that make sense? I got the print outs from the doctor's office and then scanned the selected ones and sent to my bariatric coordinator. -
I hope it is approved through your appeal! My surgery is scheduled for the 17th so please keep in touch! if you are on instagram, my user id is rnydawn. Hugs to you and good luck!
