    Change of plans..

Sounds like we'll be bypass babes soon! Congratulations on finishing your 6 month follow up with the surgeon. That's the tough part. It should go quickly for you from now on. I have a friend who was going to get sleeved on the same day as my bypass, with the same doctor, but after her egd they recommended bypass to her also. She decided yesterday to get the bypass instead. I think yours is a common dilemma, but not an easy one. I think, in the end, bypass or sleeve - we're all just making decisions to better our health and our future. That's just SO exciting in itself. Way to go US! Keep us posted on your surgeries, can't wait to see/hear all your future success.

    Change of plans..

I was offered both options, and I went with bypass from the beginning. My reasons were because I have reflux and nausea on my own (the sleeve can make this worse), and there has been years and years of long term studies done on the bypass, but not the same for sleeve. Years ago, people thought lap band was the way to go, but we're now learning that it doesn't work all that well and there have been many complications, and lot of revisions. I'm not saying that the sleeve will turn out to be the same "fad" surgery, but the research just isn't there for it like the bypass is. Also, there have been studies that show the bypass is actually more effective at long term weight loss than the sleeve. I'm 5'2 230 pounds, so I qualify for both surgeries, but I'm not so big that I need more drastic measures, I just want to have only one surgery, done right the first time. I don't want to be sleeved and then have to do revision surgery later because it's not as effective as bypass. As far as the dumping goes, I actually WANT that as a tool to keep me, and my weight, in check. I feel like my weight is a big enough problem in my life to have surgery for it, so I'm going to go all-in, and get the bypass. My surgery is scheduled for December 29th. SO excited!!

Anyone else having surgery in December?

    December 29th here!!! Can't wait!

    December Sleeve?

I'm getting surgery December 29th. Not super excited about having to go on a liquid diet for Christmas, but I'll manage it because nothing makes me more excited than thinking about getting surgery!!!
  6. Has anyone tried juicing for their pre-Op diet? I got an expensive juicer a year or so ago, and I'm thinking I'll get lots of vitamins AND do a nice cleanse before surgery, and maybe in the liquid phase too?

    Anyone go through Tricare Prime?

I have TriCare! I went to my pcp and told her I wanted surgery, she made me go to a nutrition class and said if I hadn't lost any weight in two months, come back in. That was in July. September I went back to her, hadn't lost any weight, so she referred me to the bariatric surgeon on base. He basically told me as long as I do everything I'm supposed to, and don't gain weight, I'll get the surgery. Sleeve or RNY - which I was surprised about because they TriCare online says the sleeve isn't covered, but it is through the base surgeon apparently. I'm still doing gastric bypass though. Anyway, got my labs, got my mental health, got my egd (well I'll be done with it Monday). So, my surgeon called me this morning and told me he has December 29th as my surgery date! All I have to do now is a bariatric nutrition class, then I'm getting my surgery. I have to be on a liquid diet for a week during Christmas (that sucks), but whatever! It'll be worth it when I'm healthy next Christmas!

    V A authorization

I recommend going to a different doctor. I'm living on base now, they do it at the hospital on base, and my doctor only told me to try and lose weight and if iv couldn't she'd refer me to the surgeon. Anyway, I got my surgery date for the 29th of December. I think your doctor is just being difficult. TriCare covers it
  9. How long is your liquid diet supposed to lay? 2 weeks? Mine is supposed to be 1 week-long and I'm dreading it!!! Do you have any protein shakes you found that you like yet?

    down to the wire

I've done chantex to quit in the past, and it did work. I started again, and now I vape 0mg with no nicotine! It helps because I can still smoke, but I'm not using nicotine. Not ideal, but at least you'd be able to pass your nicotine test...

    Arggg

Thank you so much!! I went to my mental health assessment and did all the lab work, so I'm feeling more accomplished for sure. I am definitely obsessing over this whole process, and I am super motivated by hearing your stories. Thank you for sharing, and I can't wait to be on the other side of the road!!

So, I missed my nutrition class that's required for me to get my surgery. I was 15 minutes late, and they wouldn't accept me. Devastated. That's how I feel. My husband is in the military and he was called into work last minute, so I was late because we only have one car. I cried and cried and cried. I have to sign up for another class next month, but the fact that I have to be this way, for another month it's just heart breaking.

Thank you so much for your support. I have half of everything completed, and as long as I do my part, the surgery is going to happen. I am grateful for that, for sure.
  14. Narcos is AMAZING! The Tudors, Borgias, True Detective, Daredevil, The 100, Orange is the New Black, Game of Thrones, The Killing, American Horror Story... I've really been liking the Netflix original series. I think almost all of them are good.

To tell or not to tell

For me, it's that I have so much of a self insecurity that I don't want to put myself out there to be judged. I don't like people giving me negative feedback, I don't like to be told I'm wrong, and I usually take things personally. I'm a major introvert. I hear all the time about how someone got WLS, and I don't even know the person. It's like sometimes that makes a person forever THE bypass girl, and not just who you are as a person. I've told my mom, my sister, and my husband - and have asked for tight lips from them. If I didn't need their support, I probably wouldn't have even told them. On the other hand, if nobody was public about it, I'd never know the benefits or disadvantages of having WLS. So, I'm very thankful for all the you tubers - bloggers - instagram people - putting themselves out there. It has really inspired me. Being public or open about it, however, just isn't for me. It just puts me in a position of anxiety to even think of what comments would be made to me or behind my back. I've always been "the fat girl", I don't want to become "the WLS girl"...
  16. You look great!!! Great job!!!!
  17. 6 days left to go!! I'm really excited for you Can't wait to see before and after pics guys...
  18. How did you find the process? Pretty easy? What type of surgery did you get?
  19. When are you going to have your surgery? They said I'll get mine in December but I have to wait on exact dates for their schedule to be available. I'm SO freaking excited about it
  20. Yes! The doctors here said that they do sleeve 80% of the time, which I wasn't expecting to hear. I'm still doing rny though because of the reflux, and it's been studied for so long.
  21. Yes I am. But, thankfully I'm being treated on base so I haven't had to jump through TriCare hoops.
