  1. There is no way I would have been well enough to go home. I was still in a cycle of vomiting, sleeping, moaning 24hrs after. I stayed for 3 nights and the cab ride home was almost unbearable. I also had my gallbladder removed when I was sleeved. Others I shared a room with were up and about 24hrs later.

    March Sydney Private Sleevers

Hi Midgee. I am 6 months post op, but went to the Mater. Years ago I investigated Sydney Private, but they were only doing bands, must have changed now. How are you feeling? I was very sore and nauseous 4 days post op. By day 7 I felt a million times better.
  3. I listed the dozen weight loss programs I had tried over the past 20 years to my GP. I had lost over 80lbs seven times, each time putting it back on plus another ten lbs. I told her I wanted surgery. No joke, she asked me if I had tried X brand Meal Replacement shakes I was so upset because she either hadn't listened to me or didn't believe me. This GP must have weighed around 100lbs. I left it another 2 years until I was having spirometry at the same clinic with an RN. She was telling me I needed to lose weight and I just lost it. I told her everything I had tried and what the GP had told me. All I wanted was a referral to a weight loss surgeon. She grabbed another GP and must have had a few words because when I went in to see him he straight away gave me the referral. Fortunately in Australia you don't have to fight for approval with your insurer, if the surgeon says you need it, and your insurance covers it, that is all you need. One day I might write a letter to that first GP. I don't want anyone else to go through this.

    Meal/Snack Ideas

I make my own Seitan. I then use it in various recipes to substitute meat. It has a heap of Protein. http://40aprons.com/seitan-ground-beef/ http://www.buzzfeed.com/mathewg5/29-ass-kicking-recipes-for-homemade-seitan-dst2#.ap7PPOej6j I also eat a lot of Tofu and some commercial veg food like Linda McCartney. I love legumes, but even six months out I can't eat enough of them to meet my protein goals.

    Fitting in Exercise

Can you change the way you get to and from work? Just my commute and a day at my desk job puts me at 12000 steps. I also do Jillian Michael's shred and shed (??) video each morning at 5am. It only takes 20 minutes. I sleep in my workout gear and leave my runners by the bed so I put them on as soon as I wake so I have no excuses

Sugar, Not Fat, is the Culprit

Added sugar existing in 85% of everything in a typical supermarket is pretty freaky. Imagine if 85% of everything in the supermarket contained added cucumber or tomatoes. Why is one single ingredient so prevalent?

    Constipation

I follow my nut and surgeons religiously...except for this Every Friday night I take a heap of laxatives so I can clear myself out for the week. So I only go one day a week, but a few times in that day. I know I have to stop as long term it is a really bad way to manage it, but I had a few really bad bouts trying to pass a freaking watermelon, and I never want to go back there. Chastise away.

Sugar, Not Fat, is the Culprit

^^^ The deception is terrifying. In the doco I listed above, they discuss how kids are so used to EVERYTHING having sugar added to it that when parents try giving them broccoli for example, it tastes extremely bitter to the child as it is such a contrast to what they usually eat. It is therefore much harder to get kids to eat their veggies now compared to when I was a kid in the 70s. They also showed what an average supermarket would look like if they removed every item that did not have sugar added to it. There was almost nothing left

Sugar, Not Fat, is the Culprit

The doco, That Sugar Film, was a real eye opener for me http://m.imdb.com/title/tt3892434/

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

I do think it is important to still look after your health and nutrition no matter what your size. Obese people often receive the exact same advice for every single health condition - just lose weight. Obese people, not ready, or not interested in weight loss, can still make changes to keep themselves healthy. We all log everything into MFP now to ensure we hit our nutrition goals, don't eat too much salt etc. Even if you are consuming 4000 calories a day, you are better off if those calories at least hit your daily nutrient requirements. The same for exercise. Walking to the shops rather than taking the car has merit. It isn't only worth it if you can sprint 5kms. I think part of the point of the movement is to remove some of the all or nothing mentality so obese people can be as healthy as possible at that size.
  20. 5 months out and I have had one week where I gained a very small amount (over the holidays, totally traceable). Other than that, I have lost a good amount every single week. I do have a smaller loss the week before my period and a big loss after. I only weigh myself once a week.

    Easter Weight Loss Challenge

    159. Thanks Sarah.
  22. I work in a very large company spread out over several office across the city. There are lots of colleagues that I only see every few months or so. I am finding it really difficult that almost everyday I run into someone I have not seen for a while and they comment on how much weight I have lost. I feel really embarrassed to have it publicly aired how obese I was. When they talk about how great I look, all I can think about is how terrible they must have all thought I looked before. I just really hate having so much attention placed on how I look. My strategy is to quickly thank them and change the subject (after turning beet red). Does anyone else feel like this?
  23. Avafern, I had someone ask me five times the exact number of kilos I had lost. I just kept saying things like 'quite a lot', but they just kept going. Again, I know that they just wanted to Celebrate that number with me.
  24. I know 100% that they are coming from a good place. They are all lovely people and I know they are genuinely happy for me. They want to acknowledge my achievement. I can't help how I feel when it happens though. I think too, because I have lost this much weight so many times before, and have put it all back on, that I feel like it is a case of me being 'on the wagon' or 'off the wagon'. That is the part I find most embarrassing. I think having a standard response will help me.

    Gained 10lbs post op

Agree with PPs. Think about the Liver factor. I was terrified that the surgeon would accidentally slice through it because it was so big. One of the first things I said after the surgery was 'what did my liver look like' lol. Get back on the horse, you can do it We all did it and we all had our own food issues to push through and we all made it.
