Whew it's been a hot minute since I've been on this site. I'm 1 year and 7 months post op of gastric sleeve, 177lbs down. Starting weight was 470lbs so I still have a little ways to go but MAN I feel damn good. Lost a lot of weight, a lot of hair and gained a lot of happiness. Also some weirdness but whatever. Anyways, on to what everyone wants to see, some before and afters! (FYI - I'm 5'10" if that helps put things in perspective)

I had a cath and I didn't shave and certainly wasn't shaved while I was out! That would've been awesome though I hate shaving! Hahah!
I find that really strange they would make you shave, I mean for god sake it's just some pubes, part that shit and stick the cath in! ????

Love your comment!! It makes me very sad that more people on these forums seem to hate the fat acceptance movement. Fat people are discriminated against and face micro-aggressions on a daily basis, there should be some sort of movement that says "Hey! I don't deserve to be treated like **** because I take up more space than you! Thanks!"
For example, I am a very fat woman that had VSG and I still believe in body positivity, fat acceptance and health at every size. I did not (and still don't) hate myself because I am fat, and I have great confidence. I did the surgery because I knew that for ME, I was headed down a path of growing health concerns, and I knew I couldn't lose the weight on my own.
Not all fat people are unhealthy. Not all fat people are sad. Not all fat people have "a thin person trapped inside" of them. Maybe some of the women on the show truly were happy with themselves, maybe some weren't, but seeing all of these comments saying "they must be really sad inside" is frustrating.
Also, men having a preference for fat women is not a fetish. It can lead to fat related fetishes, but preferring fat bodies is not a fetish.

yerawizardamy got a reaction from ClareBear1 in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
Hi! I never kept it a secret but I also didn't openly tell people, word of mouth and common sense helped most people figure it out. A lot of friends/family don't even know. If they ask what I've done I tell them but for the most part they just say "wow you look great!" and say thanks and we move on.

As for eating at events, I can tell you that not one single person even noticed what I was or wasn't eating. I mingle, drink, snack on food and just generally interact with people and they don't even look at my plate. They're too busy looking at their own! If anyone does ask why you eating so little, a simple "Oh silly me I ate right before coming here!" usually does the trick.

I will say that I have had nothing but support and happiness from the people who do know/found out. I'm sorry to hear people try to sabotage you, they are not friends or family and it may be a good idea to stay away from them for a long time after your surgery.

Also, if you don't want to discuss your weight loss, deflect. I had one coworker who was obsessed with knowing how much weight I had lost. I answered her in the beginning but I ended up just saying "Oh I don't even know, I don't weigh myself." Another thing I learned is they want to know mainly so they can have the opportunity to talk about their own weight loss journey. Deflect from yourself and direct the convo towards their progress and I guarantee they will forget all about you. Good luck!!!
