  1. Oh absolutely! Speaking for myself - food is something I used for a LONG time to deal with my emotions. And because of my new eating habits and not using food to stuff down my emotions they were all over the place! It is quite a loss and changing/challenging old habits is difficult. Please know that what you are dealing with is normal. It has (and still does) helped seeing a therapist who works with people with eating disorders and is familiar with WLS. There have also been recommended books on bariatric pal that may help with working through stuff. All the best!
  2. Greetings All, My NUT explained to me that after 12 - 18 months after WLS, it will be difficult/near impossible to lose weight. I would think that if you haven't yet made your goal weight and you continued to eat on plan and workout (even if you are close to goal weight) then you would still lose weight. It might not be as fast as in the beginning because you have less weight to lose but... I am sure she explained the reasoning behind this but I can't remember what it is...does anyone know?

    Help! Advice needed

I had a similar experience- I went in to my first appointment hoping to do the band because of the "less evasiveness" - however after taking with several people including the dr. I decided that the sleeve was a better choice. I am 4 1/2 months out and about 55 lbs. down. I have not had any complications. The dr. also repaired a hernia. It is a little weird thinking about what has been done to my stomach but it has been a great decision. I know that without the surgery I would not be where I am today! All the best!
  14. Greetings All, My question has three parts: #1 - My husband is pescetarian (meaning that he eats fish but not chicken, beef, pork...) and I am a full on carnivore. My struggle is finding recipes that we can both eat. I don't mind making things that don't include meat but find that these recipes may not have as much Protein and are often high in carbs. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find some great recipes that are pescetarian friendly, high in protein and low carb? BTW - I am not a fan of spending a lot of time cooking - so quick, easy but delish recipes would be best. And...any recipes that may allow me to add meat but hubby can eat the same dish without the meat? #2 - On that same track, how much fish is OK to consume in a week? I have heard and read so many different things but if anyone has some concrete info. that would be great! I would hate to think I am doing something good by eating fish but consuming too much of the mercury. #3 - Nutrition information - I know that we can use myfitnesspal to find recipe nutrition information by adding all the ingredients... but - uhgggg - if you all don't have nutrition information for a specific recipe how do you record it? What if you eat something out and the nutrition information isn't available? Thanks!

    Calories

I was getting about 600 per day until my NUT told me to work toward 1000 calories and at least 75 Protein. That was at my 3 month post op session with my NUT. I agree with contacting your NUT to see what she/he suggests. All the best!

    How many grams of carbs

I met with my NUT earlier this week - she said that I should try to not get more than 20 carbs per meal or snack. It is a lot to think about each day but better and healthier than my mindless eating from the past. All the best!
  18. I have been struggling with this for quite some time and thought I would post the question to see what your thoughts are... My issue is this...at times, I eat past the point of being full to make sure I eat enough protein/finish my portion size of Protein. And yes, I eat protein first (or just protein...). So, which is more important - making sure I get in enough protein each day or listening to my stomach and stop eating when it says so? I hope this makes sense.

Protein Shakes - Do I have to?

I liked the Syntrax nectar Protein Powder - specifically Fuzzy Navel, Twisted Cherry and Lemonade. I mixed them with Water. Good Luck finding something that works for you!
  20. Hey All, I had my surgery on August 10th. Our first workday is tomorrow. I am wondering if I should try to make it for at least some of the workdays - specifically the meetings (almost no physical activity, plenty of time to drink). I hate missing these days but don't want to push myself. Any thoughts or advice about this? Thanks!
  21. I am almost 10 weeks post surgery. I have been doing really well - eating the right foods, being mindful of my new satisfied/full feelings...but tonight was a different story. I had a pretty big slice of cake. It didn't really even taste good - and I know I was full but continued to eat. I feel awful - not physically but really unhappy with my decision to do that. I was hoping that I would get some type of physical reaction to remind myself that my system is no longer capable of processing and handling that type of "food". And, in the past, when on a "diet", once I allowed myself something "restricted" then that was pretty much the end of a somewhat successful weight loss attempt. I know this may sound silly but I feel like I have already gained weight. I have a wonderful supportive husband but am too embarrassed to tell him what I did. And yes, I am planning to tell my therapist during my next appointment. But in the meantime, I had to get it off my chest and share this with you all. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you make sure that it wasn't the beginning of returning to poor eating habits?
