Yaberhoo got a reaction from Elaine The Great! in Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?
For many years, obesity has been the only medical condition where it is socially acceptable to make fun of the afflicted. On the Biggest Loser, it's fun entertainment to humiliate fat people by making them run around a horse track and mock them when they fail. That's seen as good fun, but society would rightly have a fit if someone suggested a show where cancer patients compete for treatment. That double standard is wrong.
I see it as more of a self acceptance movement. It's trying to say that you should feel good about yourself no matter your size. It's not about disregarding medical advice, or purposefully avoiding improving your health. You can love yourself for being you and not feel like a reject or outsider because you don't fit into an impossible social ideal. No one is encouraging people to get fat, no one is dissuading people from losing weight. People come in all shapes and sizes and that needs to be accepted without humiliation for not falling within a socially approved range.

Thanksgiving dinner last week was my first thanksgiving since being sleeved. I watched my family pile their plates high while I took a tablespoon and a half of stuffing with gravy, one bite of mashed potatoes and about 2 ounces of turkey. Naturally, two hours later I was hungry and ate another two or three ounces of turkey. Another two hours, I was reaching for the turkey again. My sister walks in and finds me digging into the turkey and says "Leave some so we can have sandwiches tomorrow!"
I reacted as I would have before surgery and wondered if I took to much. Then I realized how little I had. I told her that she ate more turkey at one sitting than I had all day and I wasn't making a dent in her 15 lb bird. I reminded her that I said no to my delicious homemade cornbread, the homemade pies, and all the other treats they had. I chose to make a good decision. She agreed.
The next day I went to her house on my lunch break. I got my 2 ounces of turkey and a bite of stuffing. I showed her the plate and said, "I'm eating you out of house and home!" She was offended and became defensive saying "I only made one comment."
I'm still hurt. She made me feel bad and embarrassed.

I think you may want to speak with a professional about the emotional issues you have connected to your weight. Not eating enough is dangerous at any time, but especially after being sleeved. It is not uncommon for people to swap addictions after weight loss surgery and it sounds like you may have done that. Your new addiction is focused so strongly on gaining weight that you are walking the border of anorexia. That is not a tight rope walk that you want to fall off. In fact, not eating enough WILL damage your metabolism to the point that you cannot lose more or stablize. Not eating enough will throw you into starvation mode and your body will hoard every calorie you do ingest.
Please please think about seeing a professional before you cause serious damage to your health.

I think I just broke the dreaded 3 week stall today. I didn't sweat it during week and a half of so that I was on it because I knew it was coming. I am grateful for it because I can currently take off my jeans without unbuttoning them! It was definitely my body reevaluating and repairing itself.
Look, considering the limitations to the amount of food I can shovel into my maw, the fact that I am making good food choices of what DOES enter my maw, and the calorie count needed to maintain my current weight, there is NO WAY I can do anything but lose weight. A plateau in the actual weight loss is no biggie. It will come off. In order to maintain my current weight I would need to eat upwards of 3,000 calories a day. That is simply not possible when you focus on your Protein and Water goals.
    Embrace the stall!

You can't expect to be perfect all the time. Acknowledge the slip up, learn from it, and start fresh. This is a tool. You still have to work out your inner demons to be successful. All of us have been using food as a crutch, which is how we got to this place, and now your crutch has been taken away. The demons remain and you have to find a new way to deal with them.
Take a deep breath, reflect on what you were feeling when you started reaching for poor food choices, resolve to make better decisions RIGHT NOW, and go for a walk or hit the gym today. Face those demons head on.
I agree with @@defibvt's advice to restart the preop diet and move forward again.

Yaberhoo got a reaction from katie09/21/2016 in Name Your Sleeve!
I know several people on here have named their sleeve, but I couldn't find an official thread. I've found that naming my sleeve has helped me get through the irritation of the healing process (I am 11 days post op). My sleeve is Runt. Her full name isn't for the faint at heart and is used on bad days (it rhymes).
I felt bad yelling at my stomach, because pre surgery my stomach was a cast Iron fortress. I could eat nails and it would cheer for more. This new stomach is whimpy, whiny, and has *gasp* acid issues. That's unheard of pre surgery!
Runt and I have the typical arguments that most new relationships have. Most days I can force her to submit to our daily Water and Protein intake. Saturday was not the case. Runt and I screamed at each other all day. She only wanted ice water, and I wanted to have my Protein shake and medications. I emailed the after care nurse to mediate for Runt and me. An extra dose of prilosec made all the difference today. It's a rocky road so far for Runt and me.
So in the spirit of bring humor to those harder days, NAME YOUR SLEEVE! Dudes, it really does help.

Breathe and find the post called "Embrace the stall." EVERYONE stalls somewhere around three weeks or so. I stalled at 4 1/2 weeks. Hide the scale, take your measurements instead, focus on your eating. You aren't eating enough Protein and that is vital. There's no way that you can gain 3 lbs of fat with what you posted. What you gained is Water weight as your body freaks out from the sudden loss. It's all part of the process.

One of the main reasons why your stomach eventually holds 4 - 6 oz of food is because the swelling from the surgery goes away. Some is dilation, I will agree with that, but you cannot discount the swelling from surgery either.

Yaberhoo got a reaction from losing2win in How can I get my family in my corner?
It's harder for you since you have so much of your life weaved into your extended family's lives - most people don't work in a family business. It isn't fair to you that they are trying to deny you the time off to do this because you had an injury LAST year. I think that the only way to get them in the corner is to do the surgery and wait for them to see your progress as you lose weight.
GET THE SURGERY. Remind yourself that you are doing this for you and your kids. It doesn't matter what the family thinks. You have proven that you can make arrangements to make it work without the family approving. They love you and they are scared at the misconceptions spinning around so they plug their ears and refuse to hear what you have to say. Perhaps it would be beneficial for one or two of them to speak with your surgeon. Choose someone that you feel could be swayed and become your mouthpiece to the rest of the family.
For what it's worth, my mom was scared when I told her I was considering surgery two months ago. Since then, I have done lots of research to answer her questions and concerns. I explained that I joined this group to get information from actual patients, I have joined the Facebook group for the surgery center and have talked to my surgeon, a few nurses, and dozens of current patients for their opinions on everything. I have not told my sisters as they tend to be judgmental and I am not sure they will be supportive. Mom is now as excited as I am about this surgery.
Your family loves you. They will come around eventually, but don't let them stop you from living your life and ensuring you have longer to live.

Hi. I had surgery in Tijuana on Oct 22nd and had a great time. I can answer your questions in regards to the company I went through.
    1. Before surgery you are introduced to your follow up care nurse. She emails an introduction as well as the what to expect information so you are armed with it before surgery. She also emails my weekly food limitations as I move through the recovery. I had a slight fever 100.2 a week after surgery. I emailed her and she checked up with me four or five times a day until the fever broke. Low grade fever is very common after major surgery.
The company has a very active Facebook page wherein everyone from the management, nurses, surgeons, drivers, EVERYONE, is on it. That was the main reason why I chose them. I got to speak with dozens of current and former patients, everyone was constantly posting pictures of the hospital, staff, rooms, etc. Any questions are answered within minutes either on Facebook or emailing the nurse.
    2. The hospital was very clean. The staff was caring and professional. They were on the ball with medications and immediately at my bedside if I needed them. I took a friend with me (companions stay with you in the hospital room and in the hotel during recovery days). She was very impressed with the staff. I never felt worried due to professionalism or hygiene.
    3. I would recommend it to my closest family. The stay is six days, 5 nights. My friend was with me every moment except while I was in surgery and recovery. They had drivers that would take us anywhere we wanted to go. The hotel was beautiful and comfortable with an on call nurse on hand during the day to do bandage swaps, check blood pressure. The first night is at the hotel after preop blood tests and check in. The next morning you are picked up from the hotel and taken to the hospital for surgery. You spend surgery night and the next night in the hospital. Day 4 you are released and taken back to the hotel. We were taken shopping by the drivers for both fun stuff and to the pharmacy for anything you wanted (Prilosec was really cheap down there), homemade ice cream at a local ice cream shop, and broth at a favorite taco stand. One more full day and night of recovery at the hotel. The sixth day the drivers drove us back to San Diego to the airport. Easy peasy.
I had no bad experiences in Tijuana. Everyone was very attentive and caring. I would absolutely recommend them. They also have a plastic surgeon and dentist with the company for those who want other procedures done. I know a few who had dental work on the first day before surgery, others had botox, etc. I plan to go back when I need to lose some of my excess skin.
I went to A Lighter Me.
