  1. I get what you're saying. There's a kind of culture here that leans toward almost indoctrination of principles that, in some cases, vary widely between professional teams (which is a bit suspicious). There is also an assumption that we, who live in these bodies, don't know what is good for is, or what we need, and I don't think that is true either. Marry your intuition to your common sense and a little knowledge and it seems there are many ways sleeved people get to goal.

    November 2015 sleevers! :)

Had mine on the 23rd. So glad it's done. Five days post op is not a fun zone either, but at least it's not looming anymore.

    Post-op and crazy puppy!

I have a very young, very hyper pug puppy and she is staying at my moms because there's no way I have the energy right now, five days post op!
  4. After four long months of jumping through hoops, overcoming enormous fear, and learning how to deal with my emotions without sugar and cigarettes, I've finally been sleeved! Sore but healing.

    The deed is done.

    Thank you margie
  8. Marijuana is medicinal, harmless and, if anything will probably support healing. People fearing the munchies are non-smokers. Like anything else, it's what you make of it. Marijuana does not force you to eat, and it isn't addictive.
  9. I'm on the two week pre-op diet now and I have been trying hard to stay busy. I am also trusting my own process. If I'm hungry, I let the hunger bring me to tears, if that's where it wants to go. We must remember to be gentle and compassionate with ourselves throughout this process. It is more than a physical journey. It's a psycho-spiritual, deeply emotional, alchemical shift.
  10. Finally jumped through all the hoops! On my pre-op diet (living on protein shakes) and scheduled for November 23rd. I can't wait until this is a done deed. Feels like my whole life has been on hold waiting for this surgery!
  11. Yesterday, an acquaintance of mine who I did not tell about my surgery, sent me a text claiming he had dreamed about me. When I asked him what he dreamed, he said that he dreamed he hadn't seen me for a while, and when he did I had lost an exorbitant amount of weight, and I was skinny. He said he was so shocked that he was a bit mad, and sorry he had not had the chance to "be with me" when I was fat! I thought, "Wow. This is really going to happen, and it is going to work." Finally, after a number of grueling months, I've gotten my surgery date! I want to cry. I'm happy and terrified, and filled with emotion. This process has brought so much to light already, and I feel like new soil, moist and tilled, awaiting the planting of the seeds of a healthy and happy, creative and expressive future. I just had to share. Thank you so much for reading. This forum has helped me every step of the way, from curious to I am. Gratitude.

Can you do this all organic?

Getting this surgery is about more than losing weight for me, and, like you, I want to go organic, or at least, 100% NON-GMO. Here are the Protein powders I have purchased so far: Phood (plant based powder) Naked whey (un-de-natured grass fed whey powder) Dr. Axe Healing Protein Dr Axe Collegen Protein Let me know if you find any more healthy options!
  13. I think I will say something like, "I used a surgical proceedure as a catalyst for radical across-the-board lifestyle changes in my pursuit of radiant health."

Who, and when, to tell about surgery?

I know a lot of people feel concerned about letting others know about the surgery, and depending on who is around you, I think that can be wise. In my case, when I was deciding to use this particular catalyst to safe my life, one of the FIRST things I did was go to all the people closest to me, and talk with them about it. I asked them for their unrelenting support as I make these huge changes. I know that I need that. Every single person was delighted for me, and promised to lovingly support me all the way. And so far, they have all kept their words. I feel very lucky, and super grateful, but while I don't consider this a secret, I don't tell everyone I meet about it. Only people who I can trust to be loving and tender with my heart and soul.
  15. As someone who just finished her pre-op testing, I am so grateful for the inspiration I am getting from all you veterans. My surgeon also gave a conservatove estimate of weight loss, but I absolutely believe I can go all the way. More so now, thanks to all your inspiring stories.

    Protein Shakes

I just had my first appointment and pre-op tests, and with such a huge lifestyle change coming in the next couple of months, I am already beginning to gather my materials for success. I understand that there is a fasting period of two weeks before surgery, and liquid diet for two weeks after surgery, plus the ongoing need for extra Protein. A lot of the shakes carried in big chain stores concern me, as I am not only doing this to lose weight, but to gain radiant health, and a common sense element must be present in that. I realized that our bodies are nature, and the planet we live on naturally provides everything our bodis need to be strong and healthy. All my life I've been eating toxic highly-processed foods and GMOs. And it shows. So I am seeking non-GMO and organic alternatives that provide the high protein-low carb, low calorie shakes. Here is what I ordered so far: http://store.draxe.com/products/collagen-protein http://store.draxe.com/collections/supplements/products/healing-protein-chocolate http://store.draxe.com/collections/supplements/products/probiotics I am also already beginning to implement nutritional changes to my diet, so my body has as much nutritional support as possible before even going for surgery. So grateful for this forum!

    First appointment today!

I had my first appointment on 8/11/2015. It went much better than I thought it would. I met some post-op bariatric patients who were very happy with their choices to get the surgery. One woman had already lost 240 pounts in just over a year! The other, had her surgery in May, and is already down 48 pounds. When I asked for their advice, one told me the hardest part was the two-week fast before surgery. She said, "You're going to be so hungry, and so angry, so don't ait to start modifying your diet!" I was also able to get all my pre-op testing done in the hospital that same day, which was a huge blessing! Good luck on this life-changing journey. Personally, even though I know it's going to be challenging, I am so excited!
