  1. I was planning on staying on that floor in the Grande Hotel. When I arrived I waited an hour for them to tell me that they oversold the hotel and they put me in the old tower that had not been remodeled yet. There were a bunch of other women from different companies that were in the same situation as I was. I have to say I was very disappointed because floor 11 which is the medical floor was beautiful. It was all white and redone with marble and modern finishes. If you Are planning on staying at that hotel I would make sure you call in advance to make sure that you do have a room on the newly renovated medical floor.

    November with Dr. Lopez

I had my surgery done on August 19 with Dr. Lopez at his clinic in Santa Fe. He is a great surgeon and has performed many of these operations. The clinic is very small with only three rooms an operating room and a recovery room. With bariatric pal you have your own private guide and we had Sherman who my friend had also and he was amazing.
  3. So I decided to stay at the grand hotel instead of the recovery house and that is the only decision I regret. The hotel was dirty it was very loud in the evening and I could not sleep. The bed was so close to the ground and so hard I had to roll off and get on all fours to try to get up. I didn't feel comfortable staying in a house with other people but when I went there to sign my paperwork I wish I would've stayed there it would've made the whole experience better.
  4. I am so glad that you just posted that because I was thinking the same thing. I talked with the nutritionist and she said I should be eating sugar free pudding sugar-free Jell-O sugar-free yogurt and sugar-free drinks. I'm the type of person that would rather juice my own juice make a smoothie in my vita mix it with some protein powder and make some homemade soups. I get the worst heartburn when I drink those prepackaged shakes. I am three weeks out tomorrow what should my daily diet look like

    Farewell My 140 Pound Friend

My brother shared your letter with me right before I got sleeved on 8-19-15. It made me cry and I also shared your link on the pre surgery forum. Well written. I am now on the other side and am so glad I made this decision. All those diet thoughts that I had at least 400 times a day are gone!
  6. What clinic are you at? We had the best personal tour/assistant. He took us shopping, to the old churches. surgery day and the 2 days after were hard. Then day 3 you feel normal again.
  7. I just got back to the San Diego airport after my journey to Tijuana Mexico. The clinic I had my surgery and was very small but Dr. Lopez was amazing and the nurses were there for me every minute of the three days I was there. I do now say that I wish I would have gone to the recovery house instead of the grand hotel because the hotel was horrible accommodations the medical floor I was supposed to be on was full so they put me on a different floor with a bed that was so close to the floor I could barely get up in the evening. I was able to change my flight and I'm now at the San Diego airport feeling much better drinking water just had a little yogurt for dinner and I'm excited to go home to my family. Without my personal guide Sherman I do not think this would've been a good experience for me but the people at bariatric pal are amazing.
  8. Waiting for Roberto to pick me up, now this is starting to get real. Wish me luck my surgery time is at 2:00 today. I am so thankful for this opportunity and wish everyone else good luck on your journeys. I have 2 boys at home and that it what is weighing on my mind this morning.
  9. Today is my day too!! Just got up and am so nervous as to what is in store for me. We flew to San Diego so the driver will be picking me up at 9 and taking me across the border. I have heard such good hints about my doctor which has put me at ease but I am still scared. Good luck today!
  10. Okay I fly from Seattle to San Diego tomorrow and then am picked up Wednesday am by the driver for BariatricPal. I already made them make reservations at the Grand Hotel so I am glad that's where Dawn went. getting a little nervous. Did any of you wear support socks on the plane? Any other advice besides Chapstick, gas pills and pillow?

    Any August Sleevers?

So my preop diet has been fresh fruits vegetables chicken and fish. I do have a protein shake for breakfast and a lot of water. I'm having surgery on Wednesday and plan to do liquids only on Monday and Tuesday. The main reason for the two weeks of liquids only is to reduce the fat around the liver if your BMI is over 40. After everything I've read if they go in to do surgery and there is too much fat around your liver they may not be able to complete the procedure
  12. I am so happy that you had a great outcome. I have 5 days now until surgery. Thanks for the tips I will bring all the items you recommended. What about a compression tank top to hold my stomach in? Do you think that would be better than a pillow?

    Any August Sleevers?

I am nervous now, my girlfriend had it done and said she was fine the next day and was up moving around, took a shower. So I guess we are all different but the pain is going to be worth it in the long run. Just wait in a couple weeks you won't even have to unbutton your pants to pull them off.. You got this like they all say no pain no gain
  14. That is the question that I have been asked many times in my life. What about that diet you were on? Actually when I was in fifth grade living in New York, I did a science project and made it to the state finals. My topic was "what about that diet you were on".My research was on fad diets and how long people stay on them. I showed that statistically 95% of the people on diets went back to their normal eating behaviors. So here I am approaching 40 and I just quit another diet of juicing. I am exhausted mentally and so tired of thinking about what I'm going to eat, how much I eat and how fat I am. I look at myself in the mirror at least 20 times a day but for some reason the person that I see is not the person that shows up in pictures. The person that I see is strong, beautiful, and has a great sense of humor. The person that I see in pictures and I feel other people see is just an overweight person who people just look right past. I know that I can lose the weight because I have been sent to multiple weight camps as a child and have also put myself on food portion diets and have lost weight. Sadly I did not keep that up and gained the weight back. I am now at the point of my life where I feel inside that this is the right decision. I am getting really excited for my surgery which is on Wednesday August 19th. This is a permanent solution that I am making to control the amount of food that I eat. I know that once the weight starts coming off and I see the results that I will be successful on this journey as many of you have been.
