I am 61 and just had sleeve surgery in May because I want to live actively and be able to move without pain for whatever number of years that I have left. So far down over 25 pounds and feeling great. That said, Surgery is not necessarily the answer for everyone. Research all your options.

    Check in time!
Not a whole lot to report. My weight is down to 210 finally. I was in a stall for quite a while where I kept going from 213-215 no matter what I did. Let's hope I've broken through it now!
My hair is still coming out in bunches and I am hoping there is an end in sight because it is getting quite thin. I don't think anyone but me can tell, but still. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I started off with a very thick head of hair!
I am coming up on my 5 month surgiversary and am down 7 lbs for the month so far. As you can tell from my signature, the rate of weight loss has slowed quite a bit. But I will still take it! I am sitting at 80lbs down (105 lbs since my highest weight!!) and am 35 lbs from my goal weight. I've got this!

How many calories a day are you eating? You may not be eating enough for you activity level. Salty foods (many processed foods and carbs) will make you retain more Water and result in increased water weight.

And a huge NSV....actually having my picture taken on vacation and NOT hating it. Looking back thru old photos I was rarely photographed. Making up for that with my son now!
When I asked him who his favorite Disney princess is.....his answer was mommy. Best weekend away ever.

Some days, I still see myself as the person on the left in the mirror but am finally starting to accept that's not who I am anymore through pictures. Such a hard thing to get past mentally. Here's to being under 20 pounds from goal. Loving my sleeve! #happierandhealthier

I think what you are feeling is very normal.....But I can say this as someone who recently had surgery...I'm about 4.5 weeks post op............This is the BEST thing I've ever done for myself!! it is exactly what I needed! I actually think most of us that get to this point are pretty close to being expert dieters....I knew what I should eat....I ate mostly healthy, but my problem was I ate way way too much!!! I could actually lose weight when I set my mind to it. But I always would start falling back to my old habits and (portion sizes) and end up gaining it all back plus some.....This tool is absolutely amazing! I love my little tiny plates of food that I can never finish...haha......So far I'm loving it!

If you ask most bariatric surgery patients what they regret most about their surgery, it's that they didn't get it done sooner.
The difference between dieting and WLS is HUGE. It is still hard and you still need to make good choices, and there are ways to sabotage yourself, but I can tell you that I'd never felt this good on a regular diet/exercise regime. When I restricted calories in the past, my body fought back hard. Hunger was unbearable.
If you compare hunger to noise, pre-surgery hunger was a deafening roar. Now it's just a little whimper. The signal's there but it's not making me pounce face-first into a platter of food.
You will feel different, and it will feel fabulous (once you're past recovery and liquid diets!) Hang in there, folks

helenpgh reacted to UsernameTaken in Will WLS work if the problem isn't overeating?
I agree that the surgery is on the stomach and not the brain. I am a month post op and my brain still things the pre op way... I sat down to eat my small measured portion for lunch, I though to myself I will eat this and still going to be so hungry... Needless to say I could barely finish it. It is hard after surgery because I do like carbs like chips and crackers, today at work I saw someone eating crackers I like, I am not going to lie I wanted some, but reminded myself of my new lifestyle and my journey. I feel like you constantly have to be paying attention to what you eating, how fast you are eating, how much you are eating and drinking. When they say it's life changing, it really is. I am still learning this new lifestyle and new stomach, but this is my only hope of being healthy, I couldn't do it on my own. I think this has been the hardest experience in my life (I had complications as well) but seeing clothes getting bigger and number on the scale going in right direction I have hope that I will get there this time around. If you do have the surgery I wish you best of luck and great success!

    Exactly, what she ^^^^ said.
    AND:
I hear you and will try not to talk over what you are saying.
You say that you are 100% committed to the process. Who are we to doubt you? Having WLS is a real life changer. It's no joke. It's difficult on the best days.--especially if you are a "dump syndromer"
Yes, yes, and again yes. If you are truly committed to working 100% with your new body and nothing else has worked, then why not??
Losing weight during the "honeymoon" period is just what some need to overcome comorbidities and to attain renewed motivation and habits to last a life time.
I am no longer a dooms dayer. I have become ever optimistic.
Go for it, Friend. Losing your weight, and living a healthier life is the one way to prove you 100% commitment and then say, "I told ya so".
If your Bariatric team is agreeing with you that WLS is a positive option for you, who are we to be nay sayers?
I wish you well with whatever decision you make.
Please post and let us know .
    Prayers going up.
